Both lines are garbage with no real talent coming up. (Besides Trey Smith but he's already playing.) There are a couple good young linebackers but you need a handful of those guys to compete in this league.

Trey Smith and Cade Mays. You can find three other above average OL on the roster to play. DL is thin, but a good new coach should keep the recruits. You also have Butler and Bennett, who I think can be very good DL.

Larry is cynical but I think he's okay. He's just like us in giving his opinion and he does know people but I take him as just another source of information. I do think he is on the periphery now so I figure he's talks to people at least once removed from whatever is likely going on. His friends may be cynical too. People tend to gravitate to cliques where they feel most comfortable. jmo.

Most recent posts on VN.

nothing on CBJ being gone and it is too early for any real action on a replacement. I still don't believe he is back next year but the last 24 hours there is some talk that Currie really would prefer not to have to do it this year. I think he would have a difficult time selling that line of thinking but that chatter has been out there..

I highly doubt John Currie has begun contacting any coach anywhere. He has a football coach and it would be highly unethical for him to be talking to coaches who were employed at other institutions. His name would be mud all over the college football landscape.

Do not believe this is happening.

timing doesn't matter. recruiting class will be in trouble until a new head coach is named (likely after SEC championship game) and he names staff. Recruits are interested in knowing who their position coach is so there will be recruits shaky until that happens.

There will be several kids committed that will stay that way no matter what..

I was at 7-5. Which is something they can still end up with.

There is a lot more dysfunction on the team then I thought there would be at this point. The play and execution has not surprised me.

New QB and new inexperienced OC were reasons I felt the offense would struggle. The defense has actually been a little better than I anticipated..

he likely does not but he will not walk away from the buyout unless he can get a comparable deal elsewhere

Sorry, don't keep up with high school ball.. I'm not very good at evaluating high school talent. I saw John Henderson (Actually probably last high school I saw) and thought he was too lazy to ever make an impact..

lot longer than the last 3...

Neyland was an assistant.. Fulmer was an assistant.. Dickey was an assistant.. Battle was an assistant..

Tennessee's MO has always been to not pursue high profile coaches unless they have a tie (Majors and Wyatt)..

Currie can do nothing in this situation on his own.. those boosters would be involved with him on any decision.

Boys, let me tell ya. Being a part of Fulmer's inner circle in the 90s was the greatest thing ever. I even lit his cigar in the locker room at Legion Field in 1995 after we pummeled Bama. Yep, those memories will keep me warm at night while the rest of y'all wallow in misery. I don't even care. We're 5-7 U because they fired my buddy and I got left out in the cold. Grim Reaper OUT.

From one of the posters who heard Gruden is putting feelers out to possible staff members just shared this...

Here are the facts I have heard. If anything is more than 3 degrees from the source, I won’t believe it. So everything comes from an agent in the game told to a 1st Degree to a 2nd Degree to me/us. Others on here are gathering most of the intel:

-Currie is obsessed with hiring Gruden. He is going to do things differently than Hammy or Hart, so don’t expect as much UTAD sourced info this go around.

-Fulmer was hired to “fundraise.” In this case, Fundraise means be the behind the scenes agent for the AD to lay groundwork for new coach if Butch tanked this year. Butch tanked. He and Peyton will help with legwork until it’s time for Currie to do his thing. Fulmer loves UT, and he will do whatever he needs to for UT, including burying beef with Currie.

-Gruden is THE candidate at this time. All eggs are being thrown into the Grusket.

-Gruden had planned to be here this weekend for a while. He told others it was to buy his son a property to finish out his UT career. He’s already a Junior, so buy a property for 18 months use? Maybe, maybe not.

-Friend’s Uncle is a real estate agent who is tight with the agent the Gruden’s use. They’ve been looking for a while for area home bc Cindy knows her parents are getting older, and she wants somewhere to go to be close to them. Yes they also own Jeff County land. There is some intel that properties they looked at are too expensive for a college JR to live in, and an offer may be in the works.

-Cindy loves spending time with Jon, but when he coaches, she doesn’t get to see him much. Their kids are older, she wants to be near home, and any job he takes will be cleared thru her. Some have said previously they don’t want the pressure of UT because of what we’ve seen it do to Butch, Dooley, Sunseri, Randy Sanders, even Phil. But some people close to her believe if she is down with her husband to coach again, it’s going to be where she can spend time with her family. Word is her family has been asked/coerced/instructed to not say a word to anyone that isn’t family or best friend status about prospects of a UT hire for Jon.

-Friend knows Cindy’s college roommate, and she said things this weekend that led people to believe that Cindy has some excitement about “spending more time in E TN in the near future.”

-Friend’s Mom knows Dee Haslam. Dee told friend’s mom in in the past that they showed their home to the Gruden’s in 2012 when Jon pondered taking the job and were willing to sell it to them.

-Jon was at Cherokee on Friday. He was touring the place per 2 others that were there. I saw the texts from one who was here recapping as he saw it go down. An older gentleman that club members didn’t recognize was essentially giving Jon a tour of the club. It didn’t appear to be a standard lunch outing. People respected him and didn’t hound him either.

-Jon has apparently put feelers out AGAIN about a potential staff. Reliable friend is 1st hand friends with former CFL coach who had coached with other coaches Gruden worked with. At least one told the former CFL coach that he was already contacted by Jon. Former CFL coach wouldn’t say who it was but gave hints that it was Argos HC Marc Trestman. Trestman was a QB Coach for Gruden in Oakland, and if you search the threads tonight, another posted linked an article from when Trestman was hired as HC for the Argos where Gruden raves and raves about Trestman. It backs the Grumor that Trestman would be a potential OC for Jon. He makes around $600k now as HC for Argos, so he could easily double his salary here.

-Jon told some on Friday he was not going to the game on Saturday even tho he originally planned to (Grumors scaring him away?). Well, we all saw what he did Saturday. He sat 30 rows up in Section T taking it all in without trying to disrespect Butch. He just as easily could have said, “F*** it” and skipped the game if he didn’t want to fan the flames.

-There is a plane associated with UT that left Tyson McGhee around 5:30 pm today for Nashville. It leaves Nash tonight around 11:30 pm CDT and arrives back in Knox between 1-1:30 am EDT. Could be a rich Titans fan, could be something more...

There is some more Ill have to read thru and remember bc there is so much smoke I’m choking on it. I’m prepared to be called stupid, a troll, an idiot, a loser, gullible, whatever else some may want to throw out. I know it was close last time tho, so much I lost a $500 bet on Volquest that I paid up. I’m not attempting to play myself as a fool again and be “that guy with the Grumors,” but looks like that’s what God has in store for me haha. Like I said, most of this intel comes from a Facebook message group we revived from 2012, and it includes some friends of the family, some TN based sports media, and other East Tennesseans. Take it for what it’s worth, but I just want to share what I have heard from trustworthy people who don’t live to troll. We ain’t got time for that!

I hope, and obviously really want, to see the Grumors turn to Gruth. Why would Gruden, who loves UT, play the fans TWICE without planting his roots here. He wants to coach and has admitted that. He’s called UT a “dream job for many, including myself.” The man is competitive as it gets, and what better time than now to bring his wife home, spend time around his son, make a lot of money, feed the hunger to coach, compete with Saban, and build something that can rival Saban’s Bama??! Time will tell.

The talent is just waiting to be developed. A good coach can come in and win 8-9 next year IMO.

Yeah, I think it would be like Pearl's first year in basketball here...if we get the right guy. A lot of talent is being wasted at the moment.

I was on the Butch Jones bandwagon until late last year, and especially this year. It is so painfully obvious that it is just a mess...but that doesn't mean that we don't have talent...There is no excuse that our depth is still no better than 2 years ago.

That's so detailed that it's hard to believe it's just straight up fake info/trolling.

I think there's enough smoke around this to believe that Currie is legitimately going hard after Gruden with Peyton and Fulmer backing him.

My worry is that Gruden will get cold feet and back out due to fear of failure. Right now everyone loves him because he's the somewhat eccentric football genius who won a Super Bowl, and his potential is still untapped and bottled up somewhere. But if he fails--and to him that might mean anything less than a National Championship by year 4-5--his legacy is tarnished.

Can he handle the NCAA issues? Can he relate to college kids? Can he recruit? Is he actually prepared for the grind of coaching--not just watching film obsessively by himself? Can he go toe-to-toe with Nick Saban, or will the fans be calling for his head in 5 years if he's 0-5 against Alabama?

If I'm Currie, I assuage all of those fears by telling him he has the keys to put together his ultimate dream staff. If you're already going for Gruden and his demands, you might as well go all the way. Let him pick and choose top NFL and college assistants and get rolling.

I would also assure him that any "rustiness" in coaching wouldn't be evident, because he would know more about football than probably all but perhaps 3-4 coaches in FBS, would easily coach circles around the pathetic East, and recruiting would be easy because he's f'n Jon Gruden and would rival Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, and Jim Harbaugh for being the most famous and recognizable coach in CFB day one.

Many think he's just trolling the fan base again. But, if Peyton is involved as rumored, no way he's trolling Peyton.

So just to make sure I’m up to speed:

1. Dudes who trolled everyone with Gruden 5 years ago continue to do so, and everyone is drinking it up

2. Random posters from across the earth suddenly are insiders and are sources we quote

3. LWS who is always spot on with what is happening speaks not a word of Gruden, and is universally panned by the board.

I’m I on the right track?
