They're just throwing out crap in the FF and seeing who pulls out a spoon. Not sure why people get off on doing that, but some do.

There just aren't that many big hires available, and a lot of the top names are going to consider factors other than money. And there could be other deep pocket programs in the market, making it even more competitive.

IMO, some programs that appeared ready to make a move will decide to hang on to their coaches another year. Under different circumstances, UT probably would have preferred to wait, too.

Not sure that next year would be any different. At least now you can call Gruden, Kelly, Stoops with Kelly being the one that is probably off the market next yr with other two not being realistic for anyone.

Timing is one thing I worry about in terms of Frost and Brohm. Only 2 and 1 years into current spot. Are they ready to leave.

Mullen is ready to leave now.

Worst case Miles is available

Who would they expect would be available next yr that isn't now?

"Spoke to my friend. Said basically what I've read in here. Butch is gone, working on a leaving date. BoT, mega boosters, faces of the program etc agree to spend and agree on making a big offer to a certain party. There is less agreement on other individuals regarding personality/fit/past issues that will have to be worked through if certain party is not interested in the job. Some are win and let the chips fall where they may if a future incident happens and others are more concerned about perception based on past events or level of experience of certain parties. No names were given to me at all on who the one individual was nor on who else might be being looked at down the line in the event that falls through. Said the process was much more cohesive at the top than last time but there's always going to be disagreements to some level among power players regarding who ultimately lands here."
Kind of a bad vibe

No, next year won't be radically different, because the same big names aren't likely to leave then, either. They seem happy where they are and it's not about money for them-- at least that's what they say.

I think Frost will leave this year for the right offer, and Brohm and Fuente probably won't. Miss St likely will up the ante to keep Mullen, which may be exactly what he wants-- more money to stay where he is. And IDT Miles is very high on anybody's list, especially in the SEC. Some school less risk-averse than UT will take a chance on Petrino.

Everybody's panning for gold in a shallow pool.

Call Les in and call it a day. Instantly the best coach in the East his first day on the job. Bring Chief, Jay Graham, Marion Hobby and Tee back home with him.

That wasn't hard. You're welcome :) GBMFO

I could see UT waiting until next year for this very reason. There really aren't a lot of good candidates out there that would be ready for a move this year.

Butch's resume when he was hired is far superior to the realistic candidates being discussed (Frost, Brohm, etc.). So if a Gruden, Patterson or Kelly isn't going to happen, then why not wait another year?

We've reached the point of no return. There never is a year teeming with great coaching prospects. Once the marriage is over, you have to go out and get your coach from the available pool.
