This coincides with what we heard after the Georgia game....Butch was not going to be invited back, though he thought there might be a path to staying. There wasn't. He would be allowed to stay until we got word from the coach we wanted, or until it became more than Butch could stand.

It's business. The man who blinks first loses.

I don't know if this report is true, but it would not surprise me at all.

Why would he offer to take less money than what he is already going to get for what is going to happen regardless of what he can do to change it?

Several reasons -
1. His families well being. I am sure his wife is probably at her breaking point.

2. UT waits till the end of the season and his buyout is a lot less.

3. Haynesworth and Little showed up last night at his house and asked him to leave politely and said don't make me come back a second time.

Granted you do not want to be in a hostile environment and the media is not helping from Butch's standpoint. Do I want him gone - YES, however gone the right way not due to a safety concern.

I got nothing on this end. My guy was at UGA-Mizzou game, as I thought. Said he's out of the loop now. Made two flights the week after UT-UGA game to get the "money" to a meeting. Says money is in place for a big name. Big money. Never heard "Gruden", but there was serious talk about an "NFL vet". There was a rush on, as the timeline (as of three weeks ago) was to have new HC at least named in time for new early signing date.

Sticks to CBJ out after Bama, top target has NFL connection, and he thinks UT about to make a huge splash. Final point made me laugh. "What I heard didn't come from the horse's mouth, but it didn't come from a horse's ass, either."

TIFWIW. Go Vols.

You serious Clark?

If that was discussed after UGa, then the guy below shows up in 2 weeks being very visible around town, taking pictures with fans...

Butch's lawyers and agent negotiating with Currie for his buyout. Apparently, Butch and family have decided Knoxville is too toxic. He wants out now.

I just talked to one of my clients that is connected to one of the upper classmen on the team and to the UTAD. He said that some of the players felt like some of the coaches "quit" during the game saturday.

Simple.
If butch continues to run a product onto the field like he has the past two weeks his stock continues to nosedive.
He's not looking to retire.
He wants another job.

Hey, you asked me a question yesterday about someone. What I heard was yes. It was just rumor and I didn't want to throw that out there cause I hadn't heard that before and no way to know if that is true or not.

I like Gruden as much as the next guy but the reality is that he is also a gamble. He has been retired for a decade, never coached a college team nor had to recruit at this level. His NFL career was marginal at best, a little over .500 for his 11 yrs as head coach. Now I got that he is a Super Bowl coach but for argument sakes, Fulmer is a (1) National Championship, (2) SEC Champs, (5) SEC East Champs, and a College Football Hall of Famer. Not saying I want Fulmer back but as for coaching record, he blows Gruden out of the water and nobody wants Fulmer around our program. My point is, Fulmer is proven and people say he couldn’t bring us back to the glory days however, Gruden with much less success is a “homerun” hire. This is ridiculous, there are better names out there that are proven at the collegiate level.

I see where you're coming from, but just because Gruden hasn't coached in a while doesn't mean he's been sitting around doing nothing.

The man is obsessed with football. He eats, sleeps and breathes it. You ask him about any current player or coach in the NFL right now, and he can tell you their life story without missing a beat. He can tell you what they do well, where they need to improve, what offense/defense would give them the best opportunities to succeed.. pretty much everything that Butch is terrible at. If there is one thing we know he would be good at, it's utilizing talent effectively and developing players to their full potential (ok 2 things).

It's not just about the recruiting he would bring (which is also huge). It's his ability to identify a player's strengths and weaknesses, utilize the strengths as much as possible, and work on the weaknesses until they become strengths.

Also...... soon

Not too worried about Gruden being rusty. He will bring in a good staff and will be able to land big recruits based on his name and personality alone.

I actually think Oregon State could be a decent place for Butch. Much less pressure. 8 wins is a really good year.

Yeah but he won't be able to bring in the kids there like he did here. Most of his wins happened because he brought in talented kids, namely Dobbs and Kamara. I think a MAC team comes calling and he does good enough to coach many years there.

Wouldn't have to take a single recruiting trip. Send out the staff and he could communicate to recruits with a phone call. I believe official visits would skyrocket with perspective players coming for a one on one with Jon Gruden.
