Nobody outside of Lamar Jackson can run like Dobbs right now.

He's a genetatinal talent when it came to running the ball as a QB. Not only in terms of his elusiveness but also his durability. Its amazing how he never even got hit that hard to have to miss a play or two in a game. He always found a way to not take a big hit. And he also ran with surprising power given his size.

Runners like Dobbs don't come around very often. Fans should be glad they got to witness what he did here at Tennessee. Cause it'll be a long time before you see someone like him ever again.

Agreed..watching his UT career highlite is amazing. It still befuddles me how he would have those total crap games sometimes though.

We had zero turnovers. My first rule for my QB is to protect my football. He almost didn't but he had no turnovers. And yes, even a high school maybe even middle school QB knows he should throw that ball away. Bet JG does as well. However, it was his first start in a big SEC game even if SC is bad. He has a chance to get better but QD will never get better if he will not step into throws. I have always wanted to best QB and was pulling for QD until I just could not anymore. It was time for someone else to get a chance.

Blind luck that there were no turnovers. He put it on the field twice.

In terms of passing...no turnovers in 133 yards...half of which came in the last desperation drive. I wouldn't be that impressed.

Y'all are ignoring the elephant in the room: they didn't throw downfield because they were afraid of picks. Why? Because he does it in practice.

He definitely needs to work on where he holds the ball and getting rid of the ball more quickly.

But he stood tall in the pocket against a pass rush and not thrown wobblers off his back foot more times in one game against USCe than QD has in the 4/5 games he's played all season.

Obviously, our stagnant offense is not just the QB's fault but..

I will say that with QD, we managed to beat what may be a very good GT team and came close to beating Florida. Unfortunately, UMASS and the Georgia game was a horror show.

With JG, I didn't see the obvious telegraphing and he didn't seem afraid to be hit. At times he held the ball too long, but he didn't throw into triple coverage and no turnovers.

*because Butch is a coward. He never throws deep, hasn’t since he’s been here. Last year in Dobbs’ senior year he went deep more than before. But he plays conservative and cowardly. But when JG did throw the ball in the game, he looked fine. Was very accurate, much more accurate than Dormady. Butch just wouldn’t turn him loose and it costed us the game. Shocking. Butch’s tight, scared, coaching costed us yet another game.

JG holds the ball at his waist, gets the ball knocked away from him and ran into multiple sacks. But please tell me more about this pocket presence he has.

QD had a fumble where he held the ball too low and it was knocked out by a DL too. You would think Canales would notice these things and have them correct it.

Fyp. No but Frost would fit the bill...

He's not too expensive. He's young and energetic. He's seems to run a clean program. He must value academics to be top 15 APR. He's clearly got a good offensive scheme.

The only cons I can think of is no coaching experience in a big league, which is a big question mark.

Are you serious with the Satterfield stuff? If we hire that guy rest assured there will be a lot of Tennessee fans who try to break their own neck, as we saw in that picture of the young cat in Neyland stadium yesterday.

Exactly. Everything I saw with JG could be corrected with experience and proper coaching. QD, is anything, regressed through each game. He got worse, not better. He’s terrified in the pocket.

Eh, I saw a lot of tools to work with Saturday. With good coaching and a good scheme he can be really good.

The part that troubles me is I still see an immature, spoiled (for lack of better term) kid that threw a tantrum when the game didn't go the way he wanted it to at the end. I understand hating to lose but the helmet throwing was over the top.

I like JG but the immature spoiled comment is spot on IMO. I am fortunate enough to attend a spring practice every year and that is exactly how I described him to a couple of my buddies. During drills he while others were giving 85% he was giving 60% and I heard him complaining to a GA about the drills they were doing. QD had what appeared to me a "blue collar" approach and I got the vibe that JG's actions and body language showed a sense of entitlement. Those were just my observations and opinions.

However I like most of what I saw from JG Saturday considering the situation he's been put in. I wish he'd scramble a bit more so he could get out of the pocket and throw the ball away. Not even scramble for a gain all the time. I'm hoping his internal clock will improve. Lord knows it needs to before next week because our O-line is probably going to look like Swiss cheese against Alabama.

You're right. His highlight tape is ridiculous. Best highlight tape of any QB ever not named Michael Vick or Lamar Jackson.

And yes the South Carolina game was befuddling. But I think he was also hampered in other games by Butch Jones lack of a killer instict. Remember the App State game? We struggled because Butch Jones plays conservative. He thought he didn't need to run Dobbs or run the full playbook against App State. And that ended up in us going to OT with him. A real coach would have tried to finish the game in the 1st quarter by going for the jugular.

Butch Jones repeatedly kept Josh Dobbs wrapped up until we were trailing by 2-3 TDs. Then he would let Dobbs loose and we would make all those miracle comebacks with Dobbs throwing for 300 and running for 100.

A real head coach who played to win from the start would have won a championship with a player like Josh Dobbs. And the most Butch Jones could do was win 9 games. That alone should have gotten him fired.

And the way he’s beating guys. Isn’t like he’s scraping out wins. He’s destroying everyone he plays

Another reason I like him.

I want a coach who wants to destroy the opposition. Not one like Butch Jones who plays App State into OT.

I want to go into games against cupcakes knowing we'll handle our business rather than having to justify why a subpar performance shouldn't be troubling.
