Was gonna say the offense looks like it did with Worley minus the jet sweeps.

Not sure why we haven't used more jet sweeps, TBH. Pig Howard had some decent success with them in 2013 and 2014. No way Byrd and/or Williams (or hell, even Chandler in the slot) can't do what he did on those plays. It opens up the possibility of running a kind of triple option look on the backside with JG/JK or Chandler.

Yeah.

And I also remember seeing Debord actually use plays early in the game to set up defenses for wrinkles later in the game where we gashed them. And I remember him attacking Bama's 3-4 in 2015 in a way they'd never seen up to that point and being one of only 3 teams to go over 100 yards rushing on them.

Dobbs bailed them out plenty, but Debord was able to add some wrinkles to the run game that allowed us to win ugly games. The only bit of inventiveness we've seen from Scott so far is in our screen game. Dude is bad.

Idk why you keep bringing up Scott. Idc if Kyle shannahan is our offensive coordinator it’s gonna be virtually the same offense as it has been for 5 years. Of course there’s gonna be new dimensions especially when you have a running qb like Dobbs.

No but I think all these “tools” and “flashes” are wayyyyyyy overblown bc a lot of people’s hopes were so high on him they only see it one way.

Says someone who planted his flag with QD a long time ago and just can't stand being wrong about it.

JG isn't a transcendent QB by any means. With good coaching, he could be an effective QB who gives defenses some problems though.

QD...well QD has some tools to work with but has to grow some stones if he ever wants to be the guy at a P5 program.

With the game on the line, JG made a picture perfect throw.

I feel good about him. Just get him someone that can actually coach.

Rucker made a pretty good point Saturday. He said JG reminded him of freshman Dobbs. If his first read is there, he is fine. If it isn't, he had trouble finding other reads and decided to run. Which is pretty normal for a freshman QB. His throws to Johnson on the last drive were outstanding.

I remember reading the Gruden thread thinking we were going to get him based on a Chattanooga Times or something article plus what others had said. Then sometime during the night Hart hired Butch who was barely ever mentioned in the search. I thought it was a joke at first-joke was on us I guess.

I really thought JG was going to pull something heroic and dive into the end zone on a busted pass play.

QD is also poorly coached. But JG has shown much better decision making, much more poise, and potential, and also more accuracy in limited opportunities than Dormady.

You see what you want to see. I saw zero touchdowns. I saw a QB run out of bounds 10 yards behind the LOS when he could have easily thrown it away. I saw a QB hold the ball too long and take sacks.

I agree that he can be better. My point stands. Y'all blame QD for QD, and Butch for JG. Nate Peterman sucked all the way to the NFL.

I don't know if Brohm would be as good a recruiter or if he would do some of the good for the program things Butch has done. I do firmly believe he is a better game day coach than Butch.

Tennessee fans are tired of someone who might be better than Butch.

We want a CHAMPIONSHIP head coach. That is not who Jeff Brohm. He might be an upgrade to Butch Jones. But he isn't someone who I think makes us an instant contender.

The only guys who I believe are CHAMPIONSHIP head coaches are Jon Gruden, Chip Kelly, and Scott Frost. If one of those 3 guys isn't hired, then I'm not interested in anything this administration is selling.

No more gambles. Give us the sure thing.

When have I ever loved QD??? Go back and check my posts even from spring practice. You will see where I said JG isn’t as fast as everyone is thinking. Which is correct. He has a good arm but lacks touch. Which is correct. I said QD would be the starter which was correct. I have nothing for or against either QB.

I still think when you go into fall camp without a proven QB and you have a competition for the job, you cannot have red jerseys on them. You have to see how they react with some live bullets coming at them. You cannot wait till an actual game. We should've been doing that in fall camp.

QD showed me an arm in his garbage snaps a few times but were on rollouts but he did fire it. He has been horrible in avoiding all contact. JG seems ok to take a hit and has a rocket arm. I think we see him stepping into throws and stepping up in a pocket. WR's have not helped either QB. JG is holding the ball too long but except for one pass near the end, he never got to take a shot. Even a 50 50 ball shot to Callaway on a fly pattern. Regardless, I think most of us see the tools and the flashes but we also see a RSF who got real live game reps where he knew he was getting snaps from the get go. Has potential if we get the right coaches on campus. QD would do well at a school where he could just sit back there with no pressure in a pro set if he can prove he is not afraid to take a hit.

I was hoping he would too. Idk how it looked on tv, but USCe basically mugged Callaway every play and refused to let him have the ball on the goal line so I didn't have much confidence the other guys would get open.

We could do much much worse that Brohm

But we can also do better.

Enough with settling.

Do you want this to be an elite program once again? Or another Nebraska? And given our growing instate talent pool, it would be embarrassing to go the way of Nebraska because they at least have a legit excuse for not being great anymore. They don't have any players.

What's Tennessee's excuse for being a laughing stock?

Butch Jones's offense only works with a running QB that can make something happen when the pocket breaks down because the pocket always breaks down.
