You don't think having him run zone read plays and passing out of the shotgun inside the 10 is setting him up for failure?

If he's gonna be the guy he should be getting steady doses of Pistol and under center snaps. He should be under center inside the 10 mostly handing off and occasionally running a PA pass to a TE like Jakob the defense might tend to overlook.

And this. It really isn't that difficult.

The writing is on the wall guys, he isn't going to get it done here. I'm sorry, I've tried to give the guy chance after chance after chance. He's not going to get it done here ever. I believe we cut our losses now, and allow Scott or Hoke to coach out the remainder. We could take our time with a coaching search, and possibly pull in a great hire. We are just wasting time right now imo by keeping him around

Name Hoke, Scott, or Shoop interim HC now and you run the risk of them doing well enough to become HC (even if they aren't truly deserving).

A lot of blame to go around yesterday. It was a very ugly loss. We didn't lose that game on a Hail Mary-- we lost it on dozens of bad plays, bad penalties, bad drops, bad route running, bad alignments, bad tackling, bad judgments, bad QB play and bad playcalling.

It was inexcusable and unacceptable. It's not an incident-- it's a pattern. And that is very concerning.

Eh, I think you've gotta give him a chance to turn things around.

I wanna see how he and the team respond in the next 3-4 SEC games before a decision is made

He's had plenty of chances to turn things around. He has been granted every excuse you could think of for why he hasn't taken us to the next level yet.

I've seen enough. Sure, Georgia would be a great win but that isn't changing my opinion that he will never be the guy who can get us to that next level. l appreciate him for where he got us to and what he brought us out of, but he's reached his ceiling. Tennessee's ceiling is higher than Butch Jones and we need to find a coach who can get us there.

I don't care about salvaging wins this year. It'd be nice, but real improvement won't come until we move on, IMO.

You don't "move on" with an interim tho. If it's someone like Scott, you alienate his guys on the team unnecessarily. Read that as south Florida guys.

Another thing about moving on too soon:

Does anybody really think we have our next HC on staff here? This team has enough talent to coast to 8-4 on talent if it's healthy and bounces go out way.

Fire Butch and name an interim right now, and you gave the prospect LSU had of facing pressure from players to roll with the Interim HC instead of making a coaching change in earnest.

If we make a change, it doesn't need to be anytime before the UK game, IMO. Ideally we don't need one at all, of course. But if we do, November is the time for it. Always.

While I said above that we aren't going anywhere until we move on, it's frankly not realistic to cut ties right now. That said, the timetable needs to be moved up. The early signing period, in conjunction with other teams in the SEC potentially looking to make a move make it imperative to get ahead start. We may not get a rock star, but at least we can get a head start on getting the best lounge singer.

My gosh he has turned this program around. He has taken it to the next level. Sure he has taken it to that next step but the only program in the SEC that is there now is one.

He comes across a little strong ... but I can't argue with the sentiment. This is a big game for Butch.

Florida:

  • Will be missing 10 players, including the best RB and WR
  • Has an unresolved QB situation that's bad (even for FL)
  • Looked horrible on offense against a flawed Michigan team
  • Missed practice time because of a hurricane

Linesmakers so distrust Jones that STILL have FL as a 5 point favorite. UT is already 0-2 versus the spread this year.

There is pressure on him to win this game. It's not just VolNation and meaningless fans like us.

Oddsmakers we're right and he failed again.

Currie's job just got a lot tougher. I'm betting he fielded lots of calls from boosters in the last 12-15 hours.

I agree with this for the most part. I think the only thing that may complicate this is the early signing period in December.

My thoughts this morning:

We outplayed UF on the field.

They outcoached us on the sidelines

No matter how you slice it it was a BAD loss.

You just have to find a way to win. We didn't.

Butch's teams play hard and don't quit.

But they don't show up with swagger and a belief they will win. UF expected to win. They played to win. They fought to win. They won.

Definitely don't envy his position right now. The next 5 months is just going to get harder

So if he does turn it around and we get to 8-4, then what? You want an extension? Let's see how he does next year? I doubt it will be better than 8-4. Give him till the class of 18's junior year?

Les is better than Butch

Grass chomper made plenty of bone headed decisions in his time at LSU. Butch has made the same here. Only difference is one had a national championship and the other doesn't. Butch has to change or he's going to be shown the door, does it need to be right now, no. If he doesn't open up his eyes and see that his passive play style and playing not to lose, makes us lose more than win, then he needs to go though.

The other thing I can't stop thinking about is 2015:

That team felt different. Like we turned a corner. We were aggressive and fun to watch.

Yes, we lost some close ones. Some real daggers.

I think those losses changed CBJ for the worse.

He hasn't been the same since.

He is softer now. He is afraid of losing.

He coaches tight.

He is gutless.

The swag comes from the top. You have to impose your will and believe the other team has to stop you not you need to stop them. It's like in the second half only when they're down to they exert their will. Mind boggling

This team isn't getting to the next level this year no matter what happens. This ain't a playoff team.

There's really no reason to cut ties before late October/November-ish at the absolute earliest. Cut ties now and you're telling our players that you've given up on this season. Some might feel Butch was unjustly fired.

What exactly is the difference in making a coaching change now vs November/December?

This all day. His back is against the wall now. Will he let go and coach to win or get more conservative. This week will show a lot and the test will be ga

I think Currie has a clear idea how he's going to handle most scenarios. He met with each HC and set very clear expectations for this year. There's a good chance that UT will part ways with at least one HC and possibly two this year. And if it comes to that, it will be a positive change for the university and its marquee sports programs.
