Seriously? It's not like I'm making fun of a storm decimating people, their homes, etc. Just something for our game tomorrow is all it is. I thought it was cool, so I shared. I'm guessing it's not PC?

In 2004, Sports One in Cookeville printed a shirt. On the front it had a hurricane symbol with these names on the front:

Charley
Frances
Ivan
Jeanne

On the back it simply said:

Even God hates Florida.

Needless to say it was a top seller.

I hope Scott dink and dunks that defense to death with his play calling. Give us long sustained drives that wears their defense down. Get Dormady some confidence early with some easy safe passes. Ride the legs of Kelly, CFA, and Chandler.

You won't be dinking and dunking them. We need to hit a deep ball early to open up anything underneath.

My agenda is that I want us to be Elite. It sounds like that is yours, too. It just sounds like we disagree on what our program has been, historically.

Goes to show that something that would be seemingly be easily identified as a "fact" can be completely open to interpretation. I respect your acknowledgement that there are other opinions about how we should be viewed historically as opposed to pulling a muscle trying to hit the ignore button as quickly as possible.

I think this is right if you believe in cycles. There should be a few years at the peak of a cycle where you're in that terrain but it's not going to last - at least it hasn't historically. We're on the upswing from a down cycle and the question is where is our peak going to be and how long will it last? Perhaps a more timely and relevant question might be how long should be given to see if progress toward a peak continues?

I love a good graphic.

Well, I have pulled a muscle trying to pat myself on the back. It is tough sometimes, because I do think some people come in here just to get people riled up and cannot or will not have a discussion on a topic. I will be honest; I rarely agree with you, but I think that we all gain from hearing differing points of view.

Anyone that can not only use the word "methodology" correctly in a sentence, but also has an opinion about why one might be sub-optimal, is clearly capable of having a rational conversation. He's still a nega though, so irrational hate for him is not only acceptable, it's encouraged.

Jk, MGP.

Haha, no worries.

Weird, I find myself agreeing with both of you often.

Yep. They "win" either way. And if we beat Florida, Butch will get no credit for it whatsoever because it's "the worst Florida team in my lifetime."

He shouldn't get any credit. We are the more talented team in terms of personnel by a good margin. Any decent coach could win against Florida with this roster.

Cool, here's a 3 vs 5 period moving average for trend analysis which indicates we're on the right side of the trend. Also included is all time winning percentages for SEC schools which show even with all the ups and downs (which even Bama has had) we're still an elite program. Also of note is that our win % is 2015 & 16 at 0.692 is above our historical norm. I think the only thing missing is actual championships but given the trendlines we're moving in the right direction which I believe Mr. Currie indicated when he said as much a few months ago. As someone else noted, Butch has actually engineered a quicker turnaround than Johnny. I'm guessing we'll need 2-3 more years before we know how far Butch can take us. As long as he's above trend 3/5 I'd be hesitant about jumping ship in this day and age. It's all going to eventually work out one way or another anyway but conventional market wisdom in technical analysis dictates that it is unwise to try to pick tops and bottoms in advance. Don't fight the trend; the trend is your friend. jmo.

We are an underdog on the road. I can't for the life of me understand all this no excuses bs. If we win Butch dang sure deserves some credit.

We are only an undedog cause nobody believes in Butch Jones. In terms of roster talent, Tennessee is more talented. But then again we were more talented last year as well but still couldn't win the East.

The point spread is a direct reflection of a lack of belief in Butch Jones. It's not like Florida is a juggernaut this year.

He comes across a little strong ... but I can't argue with the sentiment. This is a big game for Butch.

Florida:

  • Will be missing 10 players, including the best RB and WR
  • Has an unresolved QB situation that's bad (even for FL)
  • Looked horrible on offense against a flawed Michigan team
  • Missed practice time because of a hurricane

Linesmakers so distrust Jones that STILL have FL as a 5 point favorite. UT is already 0-2 versus the spread this year.

There is pressure on him to win this game. It's not just VolNation and meaningless fans like us.

I'm not sure it's accurate to say NOBODY believes in Butch Jones based on the point spread. 74% of the money line bets are on Tennessee winning the game outright and 62% of spread wagers believe we'll cover the spread. I don't want to imply you are guilty of projection but the people putting money down don't appear to agree with your proclamation.

I think he meant Vegas doesn't believe in him, not bettors.

A team playing for their state after a natural disaster is tough. I wouldn't want to be playing any Florida team this week.
