Charlottesville white nationalists riots

Really, it's not. Speaking from my background and experience, significant portions of it are failing inspections or on the brink of failing, due to age, conditions, corrosion, etc.

Rail trestles and highway/interstate overpasses and bridges.

"Third-world" is exaggerated. I very easily buy the fact that a bunch of highway/interstate overpasses are dated and should be upgraded. You can tell that simply from driving around.

I was talking about you my friend - stating that Antifa is being forced to be idiots because of some Bannon plan.

I never said antifa was being forced, my good buddy. Read what is said and not what you think is being said. It's a trap in which we all occasionally fall, some more than other.

He has a nice statue where he is buried in Lexington, Va. Maybe they are trying to make the freaks forget about that. I visited that cemetery earlier this year.

Here's the thing. Being direct descendants (I have no reason to not believe that) is perfectly fine. They started out with a good message that was fairly on point. I especially thought this part was good:

Last weekend, Charlottesville showed us unequivocally that Confederate statues offer pre-existing iconography for racists.

Hard to argue that. But then they go on to talk about Great-Great-Great-Grandad and even mentioned some of the good things he had done. Yet to cap it off with:

But we cannot ignore his decision to own slaves, his decision to go to war for the Confederacy, and, ultimately, the fact that he was a white man fighting on the side of white supremacy. While we are not ashamed of our great-great-grandfather, we are ashamed to benefit from white supremacy while our black family and friends suffer.

So, we're not ashamed, but really we're ashamed. And really kept tossing that whole "white man doing bad things" out there in that paragraph.

And to finish it off with a completely unrelated story to the situation and monument at hand. Should have been fairly easy to have made this entirely race neutral by saying "look, he did some good things in his life that went against the social grain at the time, but we feel he made some mistakes as well. And we'd prefer not to have his monument up for white supremacists to rally around."

Easy, simple, done.

You give dumb****s an inch and they'll take a mile.

Obama got all this rolling. Activists came out of the woodwork with the full support of his administration and really got their act together. They didn't finish their agenda, and now that they see so much anti Trump fervor complete with media complicity, they are simply doubling down. Hopefully they will soon find there are two sides to an argument, and a backbone within the country that won't accept violence from homegrown terrorists.

I respectfully disagree, the statues should stay. Donald Trump should go.

I've got a better idea on keeping the statues in place. I'd suggest they replace any memorial or statue with one of Trump.

Let's see just how long it takes for the liberal backpedaling.

This is the overwhelming conclusion. The other conclusions represents a select few. Not saying it's not one to be drawn, but it's minutiae. Thanks 72 for letting my hijack your post.

I understand the significance of what '72 is saying. The issue is a little deeper. Why were people fed up with both parties and how and why did they conclude that Trump was the answer? '72 said he spoke in a way they could understand. I think that point is starting to scratch the surface.

Hmmm, so why is it that these important historical relics have stood for so long, yet only now seem to bother so many people?

Why do you assume they didn't bother people before? Just because they feel empowered to take action now doesn't mean it's based on a newly adopted sentiment. My Dad had a mini confederate flag that played dixie with a springloaded motor at work and he was asked to take it home 25 years ago. This didn't just start happening.

I don't support the violence and property damage done by any protester, but the reason the progressives protest more is because they are advocating change. If you like the status quo then there is usually no reason to protest.

Normal people don't go to protests. You're part of the fringe if you do. One political group has a much larger "fringe" than the other even though they pretend not to.

If you are spending your free time at a protest you must have a sh!tty life with little to no direction or future. And this goes for all protests, abortions, nazis, antifa, occupy, left wing anti free speech, etc. That is why progressives protest more, their lives are awful which is supported time and time again by low scores in a variety of happiness indexes and hatred towards anyone more successful than them.

you did suggest their actions are the result of agitation and ergo without said agitation they would not react no?

Bannon has realized that agitating the extreme left will cause them to react in a way that pushes some moderates toward the Trump camp.

These Antifa and far left lunatics won't stop with just Confederate statues. The left wants to re write our history.

I think antifa and the far left will have to have someone else rewrite history. They are barely literate enough to write hate slogans and epithets in crayon.

You've seen the logic of their admirers here; that's not much to write about, but I'll still give Bowl and his chair brothers a lot more credit for semi reasoned thought than the far left.

For the record, the last "worker's paradise" was really a communistic form of fascism that crashed and burned in fairly short order.

Its odd how quickly local governments and corporations act to denounce White Supremacists after one White girl gets killed at an nazi counter protest..

You'd think that these actions would have been taken over two years ago when that guy shot up the black church killing, what, 9 people was it? I guess because Obama didn't denounce White Supremacists the ball never got rolling on all that anti racism/nazi stuff..

They concluded Trump was the answer because he happened to be running against the most unpopular candidate in history. It also helped that Clinton team ran a terrible campaign. Make no mistake, if Jim Webb had been the nominee, he would have cleaned Trump's clock. Yes 72 is right about how Trump connected with people. He spoke in a non-political vernacular which allowed him to communicate with voters in a very visceral way.

There's probably some white privilege somewhere in there.

I always here people say "well Trump could ignore this or that and do his job instead of fighting back or whatever"

the same is true of the press - they could cover affairs of State, illuminate policy debates, etc instead they are obsessed with the Trump personality and palace intrigue.

It's a dysfunctional co-dependent relationship and we are the victims.

The best Trump could do is quit sparring with the press. Simply send out written press releases, and refuse to engage the press. Don't let them be more than they are because they aren't much - simply aging HS rag hacks looking for the big time and lacking in both investigative and analytical talent. They maybe rate a C+ for creative writing, and and F for disguising questions as anything but a push for their own agenda.

This and a few examples:

Many of the crossovers (from Obama to Trump) were tired of being ignored by the party. Both Obama and Clinton told them "your livelihoods are relics of the past; the government will help you instead". These are proud working people who were being told to in effect give up and move on under the "caring protection" of the government.

The Dem party increasingly became obsessed with fighting for "marginalized" communities rather than working middle class families. Policy emphasis was placed on illegal immigrants, refugees, transgendered, etc. Nothing wrong with supporting these groups but it became the primary focus of the party.

The final straw was the deplorables commentary. Hillary suggested if you didn't buy into D policy as outlined above you were an "irredeemable" person who was "deplorable".

Basically, the Dems drove a key part of their base away in an attempt to mollify and attract a coalition of marginalized communities.

Trump stepped in and said - I'm going to get your jobs back, I'm going to focus on the citizens of this country rather than prioritize the citizens of other countries and I'll help you recreate the American Dream that Dems are saying is gone for you and will be replaced by government programs.

It's just like Carville's "it's the economy stupid". Dems took a key part of their base for granted and ran an uninspiring candidate who had no message other than "it's my turn or it's a woman's turn".

The result is that a highly flawed guy like Trump won in the most unlikely election in recent history.

Or it could have been the Russians...

I sure hope that the liberals don't outlaw ownership of Dodge Challengers, at least the V8 models. The one that drove into the crowd was a 6 cylinder. I mean they blame the gun instead of the person pulling the trigger.

Since he was supposedly part of the Nazi crowd, he had no business in an American (sorta by fiat) car anyway - should have been driving a VW.

But Trump can't help himself. He's at least half the problem. I'm just saying the Press has no moral high ground here - they've jumped into the Jerry Springer show mentality with both feet. Is it for rating$ or ideology? Probably some of both but Trump feeds them daily and they lap it up.

IOW - neither side can stop and until one side does it will not change. Both bore this shizz show.
