SEC media: TN Picked 3rd in East; no votes for SEC Champ

How do you vote to win championship when you are not picked to win the division?

A couple of years ago the media did that. They picked Bama or Auburn to win the West but the other one to win the SEC. That's impossible to do.

The media is loving Muschamp these days. Beating UT last year changed the narrative on him and Mason, too. If they'd lost to the Vols and missed a bowl game, everything would be radically different.

Smart and Jones saved Mason's job.

I tailgated with a lot of SC AD people in Columbia last fall. Going into that game they very apprehensive about WM. They still were after the game but not to the same extent.

True. Having a chip on their shoulders might be just what Team 121 needs. If the players want to prove everybody wrong, the opportunity is there. September is their chance to show up and shut up the doubters.

I swear we say this almost every year. That don't need a chip, just go out and play inspire football.

Who are the losers that picked Vandy and South Carolina to win the league?

John Adams is the only SEC writer I know that is dumb enough to pick Vandy to win the conference.

Going into the season, Tennessee is picked about right where they should be picked.

Georgia is not a better football team than Florida, sorry. Also Ole Miss will not finish dead last in the West, still too much talent on board for that.

Great. We're nobody's and it's off-season. This is good for our team's mentality going into fall camp. I think our coaching and focus will be better knowing that we are underdogs.

The problem with that is, that if we win GT and go beat UF on the road the hype train will be at full speed. So, regardless, we have to play focused 13:13 weeks to attain our goal. I like our chances this year based on quality of talent across the board, and lack of many proven "stars". Our core talent has grown and matured over last season. This is a reality that fans often overlook when losing star players to the NFL. If this group of "I"s becomes TEAM, then watch out.

Exactly. The media is so stupid most of the time. Tennessee will win the East. And Ole Miss should finish 3rd or 4th in the West.

Yep, this is a very successful program that doesn't need to "level" expectations. The expectations should always be high, we shouldn't have to surprise anybody.

The media is basing their predictions on UT's losing key players and their lack of faith in CBJ. They have no idea how well this team will gel under a new QB, how other players will progress to fill the holes that are left or if our new coaches can fix some of last year's issues. Have we recruited the right players and developed them to their potential? Can we plug the gaps? We're about to find out.

Exactly. About the only eye catching part of the numbers is the gap between UGA/UF and UT. And the lack of one between UT and those directly behind them.

And that reflects the general feeling that UT has hit the highwater mark under CBJ, while Muschamp and Stoops are continuing upward momentum at SCAR and UK. Winning is the only way to dispel that narrative. Back-to-back wins against UF and UGA would be a great place to start.

When you have a season like the Vols had last season, this is what happens. If we're better than that, we're going to have to prove it. Respect is earned on the field.

So Georgia earned it on the field? Just doesn't matter and if Tennessee was picked to win the East, it would not matter either. I mean someone picked Vandy to win the entire SEC. :eek:lol:

It would quiet the masses. To include myself.

Right. The general consensus is it doesn't matter. Talk is cheap; predictions, worthless.

UGA is getting the benefit of returning a known at QB and the idea that Smart will probably be better in his second full season as a HC.

It won't alter what will happen. It will be interesting to see if many here forget the 3rd place pick if UT finishes 1st or 2nd.

Or maybe a lot of it is because we had so much talent drafted in one season. You know, like so many of the media members actually said.

Stoops has been at UK the same number of seasons as Butch at Tennessee. 19-30 overall record with the BEST season being 7-6, which culminated in a drubbing by GT. All 5 seasons they get annihilated by Tennessee. To surmise, a losing record in 5 seasons with only one bowl loss to crow about. In which alternate universe is that "upward momentum "?
