Human hair mulch... fencing... motion activated lights... motion activated sound effects... At last resort, deadfalls & snares (entrees).
I have done the hair in the past, along with other deterrents with mixed results. I've got a 2.5' chicken wire thing that I've thrown up in the past, which stops some of the rabbits but not the deer. I live in a very developed area of Nashville where I am pretty certain of two things: (1) The state will not give me a depredation permit; and (2) Some of the neighbors would definitely see and then turn me in for hunting out of season.

The post about the pit bulls is pretty on. I had a dalmatian and a hound dog up until a few years ago and those pets probably did more than anything to keep the animals away.

At any rate, the better half says no new dogs and no new fences until we decide if we're going to stick around much longer. I think she wants to stay but land values are insane in Nashville right now so it's a struggle.

Powdered lime. Dust plants. Deer hate.

I have not tried lime but I have used gypsum powder for calcium in the past. I'll have to put that one on the vault. Hopefully, next year I'll be back at it.

BTW, Behr, I'm fairly certain my mystery pepper plant is a gypsy pepper. The latest fruits to form are looking more like 'em. When one begins to change hue, I'll know for sure.

A tale of two birds

So, it's likely y'all have read that I caught the bird pecking apart my ripening tomatoes. It was a mocking bird. The resident male cardinal meticulously works through my mater vines picking off the little caterpillars. Bad bird. Good bird.

And I forgot to eat it with dinner!! I had country style bbq pork ribs, green beans, roasted cauliflower, and slaw. I just want to cry.

Oh noes. Haha, put it in your eggs in the morning.

I could have picked my ghost pepper today, but I'm waiting until later in the week so I can make a sauce with it. Its brilliant red and wicked looking.
