he's not wrong. at least from the performance standpoint. a little embellishment on the Patriots roster comment, but he had b2b top 10 classes and resulted in zero championship game appearances....

so we start over. we should be happy with what's been going on during this off season. I am.

it just needs to translate on the field.

It does look like they got some quality commits. I'm guessing there's not that much difference between a 5.7 3* and a 5.8* 4*. Rivals just had to draw the line somewhere.

yep. and all 3 of the guys we picked up commitments from over the weekend have offer sheets you want your commitments to have.

all three really are great pick ups. one was comitted to LSU until OCD. the other two RB's both fairly highly sought after. Dixon being the higher of the two, but Grant, jeez, dude looks like a beast....

After Kamara broke out last year there was an article or sports piece that stated that Saban didn't want Kamara to leave. It further stated that Kamara didn't want to wait to play.

So he went to Hutcherson and transferred to UT BC he didn't want to wait to play? Of course Saban would say that after he broke out.

That's like saying a pitcher's chances for a perfect game are good after he's retired the first 5 hitters of the game. The 2018 class is early, and recruiting clearly slipped in '17.

One down year isn't a big deal, but if he doesn't rebound in 2018, and he isn't likely to if he produces a 7-5/8-4 type of year, then things really don't look good for his job security.

Sounds like development to me.

Plus, someone turned Jauan Jennings from a QB into a WR. Gotta give someone credit for that, he didn't just magically know how all the tricks of the trade.

Josh Smith seems pretty polished as a slot receiver. 2016 wasn't his best season, but he's a good player and will likely make the pros after this season.

So I think the WRs are doing fine in development. I'd be more concerned about OLine and DBs, personally.

And linebacker too. As I said in another post we have several highly touted guys at the position that or whatever reason have never been able to crack the depth chart.

That's the tone I was trying to strike with my prior post in this thread, although you and I both know that ,if people don't voice their concerns, things don't look so rosy come February, and they then state their peace, there will be torrent of responses asking those posters why they weren't complaining when we had a top 5 ranking. I know there are instances where it cuts the other direction. I just see why some posters may feel compelled to post something that will be taken as negative on the heels of a positive weekend.

I can disagree, and express my opinion all day long without namecalling. Why do some on here have such difficulty with that? It's very clearly outlined in Freaks stickied rules for posting.

I guess when UT football (not the University mind you, just the football team they scalp a ticket to see once a year) is the sole bright spot in somebody's life, they tend to get a little touchy. That must suck.

Yeah, agreed, MBRO, I'd add them, too. I mean, it could be other things, but you'd have to look at development as part of the question for sure.

Though on the flip side, someone developed Kirkland really fast into a solid "QB of the defense." That took a lot of training and development, esp. on the mental side, and did it fast. Dude was absolutely ready to take it on by his second year. And thank goodness, because we needed him.

no, i get it. it is what it is. i'm of the opinion that this class seems pretty tight, as it's constructed currently. and i'm also of the opinion that of the commits we've gotten so far, i'd be a little bit more than surprised if we have defections. i do think we can't crap the bed this season, but we don't necessarily have to make it to ATL either to secure all the signatures. just don't go out and suck....8-4 or better, and i think all is well.

doesn't mean it won't happen though....no one, i hope, is that naive.

i think so far, it's probably gone according to the plan. the next 10 or so recruits we want/need, the hill is a little steeper climb.

and not to dredge up the debate on momentum, but with the activity we've seen this month, it at least sets a good foundation for some more good things to come later on in the cycle. a good portion of the class has some good credit built up with their contemporaries, and we have several guys that have been, hm, "helpful", in getting kids on campus, and completing the sale.

it's not all a done deal. but it has to start somewhere, and on that note, we've done that.:thumbsup:

I get this, but I don't get why its so difficult. But it ain't gonna change so no use in discussing it further.

What you said makes sense tho.

Edit: No use in me discussing it further. Didn't mean it to imply anyone else shouldn't .

That's fair, but again, it is so early that it's basically meaningless. Alabama is 58 and Georgia is 65. Miami (OH) is out-recruiting Alabama at the moment. Think that'll hold?

It is promising that we already have 1 5-star (as do a lot of the schools in the current top 10), but let's see how it goes as the season goes on.

it's fluid, and #5 most likely won't hold. i agree, Bama and GA and a few other big names are all still in single digits, so it will move a lot over the next few months.

the 5* thing will probably move too. as will some of the 3*. Emerson may very well wind up a 5* when all is said and done, and there's a better than fair chance all three of the guys we got this past weekend will wind up 4* guys.

in the end, i don't really disagree, it's a verbal.

but, these guys could have committed to any of the schools they've gotten offers from, yet they chose to go on and pull the trigger now with Tennessee.

doesn't mean people will stop recruiting them. and doesn't mean we won't either.

it's a good thing.

it is early, and the #5 class ranking won't hold up to signing day. there's a few big movers out there....LSU, OSU, us, and a few others that have been making some real hay in the spring/summer.

it'll pick up for these other big time programs as we get later in the summer and the fall, and our ranking will probably drop. star rankings will change, for the good and bad, and in the end, if do wind up keeping this class together, and get a few more key guys to sign up, then this will be a very good class, and should be a top 10 class regardless when all is said and done.

even better, it's strong on the LOS, CB, RB, QB, and we still need a little work at WR, LB. and we're getting lion's share of the best talent in Tennessee. an absolute must for this cycle.

it's a great foundation to build the rest of the class from, and we have a group of kids that are really helping in keeping other prospects' minds on TN.

there's absolutely no reason not to be pretty happy with how this cycle is going right now.
