Fluke: unlikely chance occurrence, especially a surprising piece of luck.
The App State game going into overtime, wasn't so much a fluke as it was a predictor for the 2016 season as a whole, that saw us struggling against nearly every team on the schedule. We didn't have a single regular season game save TN Tech, where we didn't come out and look unprepared and undisciplined for 2 or more quarters.
The fluke, as you put it, is that we ended up 8-4 instead of 6-6 in the regular season. Because that end zone fumble recovery against App State, and the Hail Mary catch from Jennings were about as lucky a break as a team can get.
I'll give you they came out and looked unprepared and undisciplined. But we all know they were a well prepared team and disciplined.
If anything I would say they were over confident and played with wreckless abandonment with no regards for mistakes until they looke at the score and would go figure out they had to tighten up.
I can't remember a game that they came out looking shell shocked due to the competition.
Nobody's over looking or underestimating the Vols and coming into a game against us over confident. We get their A game and when we don't play with the discipline that was practiced all week, that's how we got into the dogfights we did.
Why do y'all think Butch is so emotional during the games?
He is seeing things in games the exact opposite to the way they practiced. Granted, I'm assuming they spent additional time on how to not fumble rather than how to recover the fumble in hopes to stop the butterfinger play we had for most of the year.
How do you convince a 18-23 year old if you don't hold the ball "right" they will strip it?
There were back to back plays where JD got stripped at the end of a play, once was after his knee was down and the was recovered by our guy but dang at some point based of their training you have to get up and give the ball to the ref.
We laid the ball on the ground so often you would think it was Easter and the ball was an egg(That's an eggsageration.).
To hear JD talk about ball security you would think he would have protected better. When all your "hopes and dreams" revolve around the ball have can a person be so loose with it.
App st was lucky to be in the game. Even as generous as we were with all the chances we have them to win, they choked.
As for Ga, was their go ahead TD not a fluke as well?
Back to back fluke plays from scrimmage is what made that game.
Lucky bounces happen all the time with that egg shaped ball.
