Curtis Painter? I guess he wasn't a Chase Daniel. Quality career backups aren't easy to find either. Have to develop them and Painter wasn't good enough.

LOL at this line of argument. Curtis Painter never developed so obviously teams aren't developing their QBs!?


What do you think coaches are doing with QBs in their first few years after they draft them? They're not just going through the motions hoping they figure things out on their own, that's for damn sure.


It's incredibly ignorant and not based in any kind of logic or facts to say that teams aren't trying to develop guys they draft to be the best possible player to give their team a chance to win (or become trade bait).


Sure, teams aren't gonna sink 5 years waiting for a guy like Alex Smith to finally come around, but it doesn't change the fact that when guys do come around it's largely because of experience and development they've under their NFL position coaches.


So I get what you're trying to say here, but it's still asinine to assert that teams aren't grooming guys they draft and trying to develop them. If that were the case, you'd never see a QB taken after the 3rd or 4th round of the draft. But teams take guys like that all the time hoping that 2-3 years under their coaches tutelage might bring a guy along to being a starter

On this topic, I don't know how many of you heard it this morning, but Josh blew up espn 850 am radio in Cleveland this morning with Mel Kiper. Absolute made an impression. Said all the right things and more, then stated that when he was in college he was holding down the most difficult curriculum one can take and running the offense at Tennessee in an SEC season. Said he was looking forward to "eating,breathing,sleeping", the game of football without distractions. Says he loves this game and is looking forward to "dominating the field". Then asked Mel how many digital PI Mel could run off by memory. Mel fell all over himself after that. Said Josh was trending up, compared him to Dak Prescott, and said he will go in the third round, and that he is "a winner". But, you know, when have ESPN ever been right.

Teams have to take players for depth but I highly doubt a player they pick 5th/7th round is gonna be there franchise QB.

You can say that teams will try to develop players but I think less and less teams are into the whole developing stage. That's what I'm really saying. Yes, development happens.. but with teams that have a sure starter already... The other teams seem to not want to waste time on grooming

You should be ashamed of yourself D4H... let's just enjoy the ride and enjoy draft day fro Dobbs... I am done ranting about D4H... hopefully everyone gets on page because before long he will be a 2nd rounder and we will miss how high he rose in the draft because of a 12 year old... (I'm looking at you D4H) done. 🎤Drop.

The only 12 year olds around here are you guys for getting into a temper tantrum because of me and attacking Dobbs in turn. Very immature on yalls part.

If this was just funny to you guys you wouldn't hurl insults at Dobbs as a means of trying to get to me. KBVol himself admitted to this. That he attacks Dobbs because he got a problem with me.

Now that is what I would call IMMATURE.

Dobbs is a great person, but he's not all that good of a QB. I would add that this year is a bad year for offensive line also.

Looks like the Steelers are very interested in Dobbs. I've read several articles from Steelers sites with Dobbs being a strong draft target.

Far, far, far better, in every measure you care to look at. Tee wasn't a much better anything than Dobbs. Josh was exponentially better as a college qb than Martin, not even close.

Feel to back up your assertion with anything tangible.

His opinion after being able to watch both during their careers...I happen to agree with him, so whatever that says for "credible". This revisionist fancy that Tee was some artist in the pocket is just that. The level of talent that he was surrounded with compared to Dobbs should have translated to better STATS if he were a "much better drop back passer" and they don't add up.

That would be a great pairing for both sides. Steelers get their future franchise QB. Dobbs goes to a winning organization with a great young head coach.

Tee Martin was basically a 50% passer except for one game. I don't want to dog the guy because he made some great plays, but he was an often erratic passer that was protected by playcalling.

Feel the same way. He had a penchant for making that one, singular big play at the opportune time in 1998.....many times after really struggling, not playing well all day and helping make sure that that one big play would be needed to win.

9-26 vs Syracuse, 64 passing yards vs Florida, 10-27 vs Arky, etc. But 1998 was a magical season, he was surrounded with NFL players and he often found a way to come up the big play in playing his role on the way to winning the national title.

In 1999, the magic ran out, and he was defined even further for the collegiate qb he was....athletically talented, could throw it a little bit, was largely inaccurate, couldn't get through his progressions, was good, certainly nowhere near great.

I appreciate him for what he did to help the '98 team win a title, but I also recall him for the player he was. And Dobbs was by far the better collegiate player and quarterback imo.

for dobbs to be drafted in the 2nd round, at least 4 qbs, probably 5, would have to be taken ahead of him.

if a run on QB's occurs he'll go higher. if not, he'll fall to later rounds.

it really doesn't matter though. i'll just keep saying it. a year ago, udfa was the story on him. today he's a legit 3rd/4th round pick.

still don't get all the hand wringing over "where" he gets drafted. he has zero control over it, and teams that do want him, will want to get him as late as they can. they're not going to reach on him unless forced to do so because 4-5 guys ahead of him are off the board, increasing his value.

and really, that's worst case scenario for him, at least from a situation standpoint. the later he's available, the better the landing spot. teams like CAR, PIT, SEA, KC etc....that like him, will definitely take him if he's there 4th round or later.

if he goes 3rd, or 2nd, then that means someone got desparate b/c the qbs they had graded higher are gone, and they still NEED a qb. or a team with picks to burn, like Cleveland, takes him, again a terrible landing spot.

and that won't have a thing to do with anyone's evaluation. at that point, it will simply be circumstance that dictates.
