Beard teaches nuances very well at WR. You can see the savvy he teaches. And he teaches to his WRs skill sets as well.

Never played WR and know nothing about the nuances of playing the position, but I liked the videos I saw of Beard mic'd up at Miami.

I only played through HS, but the best coaches I remember having were the ones who got really hands on and could show you exactly what you were doing wrong and what to do to correct it. Seems like Beard gets about as much excercise as the players do themselves when he's working with them. I like that.

I'm hoping he does big things here and sticks around for quite a while.

So...Currie is Haslams and Jubrans ****H. I guess they would want us to give him a chance.

The Haslams more than anything. Nothing moves at UT without them right now. It was bad before Bill became governor but now that he quite literally controls the purse strings of the entire university no one can so much as take a dump in private without their approval. It's why I find all of the conspiracy theories, especially the ones about "the Lady Chancellor" who has been on the job all of a few weeks hilarious -- setting others up for potential blame is a classic Haslam move although they'll be sure to sweep in to take the credit should Currie manage to succeed. This entire process has been the Haslam show and really it has been for the last 15 years.

Josh Dobbs evaluation from Greg Cosell

Not sure where the arm strength question comes from unless the evaluator has mistaken Dobbs' underthrows when he gets out of sync or tries to throw off his back foot for a lack of arm strength. His arm is plenty strong though.

On a brighter note...I discovered how good the drugs I'm on are last night. One beer and.........................

Now you should try better drugs

Here's a somewhat random thought about UT athletics right now... I don't think I can recall another time frame where football and men's and women's basketball were all in a position of having won quality games against the teams on their schedules that matter most but have all turned around and dropped games that should've been walks.

It's like there's something in the water and I don't think it's as simple as just coaching because Barnes is pretty well recognized universally as a good coach and all three teams have a unique set of circumstances behind their wins and losses. However, it is weird af to watch this 'beat the best and turn around and lose to the worst' in phenomenon action.

Had a convo with a good friend close to DB. We both agreed he would be better off not to get this job. It is a cluster of you know what but he knew that and still wanted it because he really felt he could fix it. Of course it pays well too. However, we both agreed he would be in a better position if he got a different P5 job than UT. It is a mess and Currie is going to have his hands full.

Like you said DB is better off for it. Like Garth Brooks used to sing, "Thank God for unanswered prayers". I suspect DB will move on and be better off for it. This is speculation on my part but I have to wonder if him not getting the Mississippi State job was due to the fact that everyone knew he'd bolt for TN at the first opportunity? If that's the case that should remove that from the equation with future job opportunities. I'd say it will be a very long time before he trust anyone on the hill.

This is where I'm headed. Not really because the administration makes me angry though. I'm so worn down with all the negativity. Every single day it's something new.

The exciting basketball team full of freshmen loses a game.... Oh we're soo cursed!!!

It couldn't possibly be that this team is laying a solid foundation for years to come.

Oh my gosh we didn't get the quality control coach that I wanted and the new guy doesn't have quality control experience!!! We're doomed!! Same old Tennessee!!

Blah blah blah on and on. Day after day. Do some of y'all even like sports? I mean. That's all this is. Games. Played by college kids. It's awesome. And can be real fun.

But in case you didn't realize, we're not owed a championship in every sport every year. That's not our God given right as TN fans.

I mean, does all this stressing about every detail and every hire add to your enjoyment of the games? I would ask yourself that. Because there are lots of people making money off your freaked out clicks and that's why weve got this watered down media coverage that never actually tells us anything interesting about the football team I love.

I want to read about the new strength coach and how this talent is developing in the weight room. Something. Is it okay to still root for this team? Or does that make me some type of sellout? Is being a true fan mean we have to carry a pitch fork every day? If so, I'm out.

Sorry for the rant. Just had a lot floating in my head recently I guess. I just want to root for the Vols and hope for the best. To each their own I guess.

Go big orange forever

Bless you, sir. Bless you.

I'm just thinking out loud, but this whole thing smells kinda like the Gruden story to me. Several of the 'mid-major' boosters, who vastly overestimate their place in the grand scheme, start trying to throw around their weight. Leaking "info" here and there, pushing for their candidate in their own ways. We hear "its done" in some form or fashion about 20 times.

When in reality, they didn't accomplish anything. Someone in charge may have politely nodded and listened to them intently, but that was about it. Ultimately, what happens at almost every university happened...1 or 2 top admins and 1 or 2 heavy hitting money people made the call and the real story will probably never get out.

Meanwhile, some of the fans are left absolutely convinced that the other story is the truth. Our guy was in! It was done! But we wrecked it..."They" screwed it up...

Love you too man and respect your strong stance on it, but show me how it is obvious if you would.

Why is Currie being hired because of supposed (I guess that's what people are saying) connections any different than say Blackburn being hired with his connections or Fulmer being hired with his connections. They both have a lot of connections with TN. Had either of them been hired. It would have been prised and there would have been no mention of connections and damn sure would not have been anyone using the word lackey about them. Isn't that what either one of them would have been though? A lackey to someone? If being a lackey is based off of someone pushing for you to get the job. They all fall into that category.

Simple questions to ask...

Can he do the job?
I'm sure he can do a job.
Could Fulmer or Blackburn do the job better? If you answer no (even if you feel they could do it the same, not necessarily worse), then what is the problem. If you answer yes. Then ask the next question. Why do you think that? Not because I heard this from someone or I read this somewhere....why do you think it?
Fulmer...no. Blackburn..Yes because since he was first mentioned as pertains to eventually getting the UTAD job several years ago, I have followed his progress because it was believed he would eventually get the job, and I wanted to know if he was a good candidate. He has done everything expected of him, and done it well.
Could we have hired someone that would be beholding to no one? That answer is pretty much no.
No..I agree. I just think Blackburn is a lot better choice than Currie, I think the fact that some boosters didn't want DB because they couldn't control everything he does. I think Currie is a Hambone clone. Nothing but a money man. I may be proved wrong, but we will see. I made up my mind a long time ago that David Blackburn would make a great AD. I think he will prove that somewhere else.
What Do I really know about what happened? Not hearsay from someone who knows someone.

Once again..I don't have to see the wind to know it's blowing.

I think the insane amount of catastophic injuries, and to a lesser extent dysfunctional team dynamics caused the football slide. The BB team is just about a perfect example of what a very young but decently talented, well coached team usually is...wildly erratic. The women's BB problem is simple..Holly Warlick is a completely horrible HC.

Agree. Agree. Agree.

Solid hire k St facilities look great now and before people associate him to Hamilton he left shortly after Kiffin hire and wasn't here for the train wreck

If dooley was a train wreck, then kiffin must be a loaner Lexus that wound up in a ditch with suspicious circumstances

Quotes from everybody's favorite VFL, Bruce Pearl, and former AD Mike Hamilton when Currie took the KSU AD job in 2009:

“John Currie’s going to be a tremendous (athletic director) one day, but selfishly, I hope we can keep him around here for as long as possible,” basketball coach Bruce Pearl told the Chattanooga Times Free Press last year. “He’s been so important to our program. He’s been one of the guys that’s helped us get to this point.”

Currie and Hamilton hired Pearl in 2005, and Pearl went on to earn national coach of the year honors after leading the Volunteers to a 22-8 record in his first season. Currie also played a significant role in the hiring of football coach Lane Kiffin and baseball coach Todd Raleigh.

“He was intimately involved in our hire of our football coach, basketball coach and baseball coach, all three of our most recent hires,” Hamilton said. “The basketball coach in particular, coach Pearl, it was the two of us who did the search. There wasn’t anybody else involved in it. He was very much involved in a lot of our research, planning the kind of questions we were going to ask and helping make decisions. It was the same when we hired coach Kiffin this past winter.”

Well, 1 outta 3 ain't bad...

I go to church with a guy that played at K State in the 80's. He goes to a lot of games, his kids both go there and he is a big sports fan. Asked him about the ad. He was sorry to see him go and thought he was a good ad. tifwiw.

One break at work and I check twitter.

So far, I've seen people with some variation of VFL, Orange, Vol, Vols, etc in their handles call John Currie "Judas" (I'm not sure why), a "steaming pile of s**t", and take shots at him and his daughters when he posted a picture with them.

We seriously need to corral these freaks.
