Yep.

I've never played football. Wish I did. But being a scientist I chose not to criticize CZA for that stance like you. It literally is physics. If you sprint your first motion is to bend a leg to bring power to your initial acceleration giving you a quicker acceleration off the snap. If you are already in that stance then you eliminate time which is important.

He wanted zero wasted movement with is fine. But his WRs didn't stem routes well at all. Their routes looked so easy to cover and it was easy to see with their lack of separation on most plays. Malone stemmed well but the others not at all. Which is a major problem for me. Watch the Clemson or Alabama WRs run routes. They set up guys with false steps throughout the route and use their hands very well to gain separation.

DB was definitely an upgrade. Hoke...eh.

Beard is the biggest unknown on staff. Keeping Stripling directly involved in the program while adding Hoke = upgrade.

EDIT: I misread and thought you were referring to Beard when you said DB. So yeah, I agree with you, Warren over Martinez is the most likely upgrade.

No claims of expertise or inside knowledge, just a touch of understanding how matters can get screwed up.

Everyone seemed to consider Blackburn the obvious choice. Then, Phil's hat gets in the ring. The base becomes divided. Davenport has a problem. Deciding between those two is going to make enemies either way. Not the best way to begin her tenure. She was presented with a viable alternative. It appears she made the Solomonic choice.

It may have been the right decision. It may not. Either way, we have to live with that decision. I prefer to make the best of it until it proves otherwise.

My opinion...for what it's worth...These two statements combined, really kind of work together to make the point about Azzani. Maybe he did KNOW what needed to be done. Maybe some of the players got it (ie...Malone). The problem as I see it, and the reason why people think he sucked as a WR coach (and according to some, why some of his receivers didn't like him) may very well be that he didn't know how to paint the picture...or sell the vision, if you will.

First clip I watched of Beard....you see what was known here as the "crouching tiger". The most important thing Beard does in that video is sell his vision. He watches what they are doing. He corrects their stance to said crouching stance. He shows them the stance he wants. Then he explains to them and shows them why. It saves movement, which increases reaction time coming off the snap. He demonstrates both stances and the WR's can see the difference.

Every WR lined up and did it the way he explained...the first time.

The guy we hired.

It's not that it's Currie (for me). It's that NO ONE got a fair shake at it. Davenport, committee and search firm ended up interviewing one guy collectively. If three to five qualified people were interviewed by all three, I'd have no problem right now. How does Davenport know that DB or Fulmer aren't qualified? She didn't interview them. How can this collection of entities know who or who isn't qualified without a legitimate talent pool throughout the interview process?

Perhaps if they took another two weeks (hell it's been 7 months already) they could have found a mutually agreeable candidate and gathered all information on the hire. Check references, review the candidate with people he or she worked with, etc. What does Davenport have to lose in making sure all entities interviewed the guys that the fan base requests. The committee being divided makes the idea of having a committee pointless. Why have one if an executive decision will be made anyways. Just appears like gross mismanagement and it looks like we replaced an incompetent booger eater with an incompetent culture ignorer.

I just keep going back to this post wishing I could give it another like.

I had refused to say anything negative about Davenport because I feel she got an unfair shake in the beginning. Partly just because she was female and partly because I felt she did have a right to a say.

But Not only was granting interviews the right thing to do.. just because it's the right thing to do..
But seems a smart business decision to at least act like you care what the fans/alumni believe.

We Tennessee fans disagree often. But having been around many fan bases and visiting many rival boards, I will say, I honestly believe, Tennessee is one of the most knowledgeable fan bases in the country.

She has the right to her own choice. But I just think it was dumb to appear as everyone else's thoughts is no more than a waste of her time.

Currie probably hasn't hired a football coach in sometime since Snyder had been the since the Bronze Age. Should go well when we are looking for one next year.

I believe you nailed it.

I'm not even criticizing the hire. My gripe is with the disrespectful and unprofessional way both VFLs were treated. Frankly, I was shocked.

Had a convo with a good friend close to DB. We both agreed he would be better off not to get this job. It is a cluster of you know what but he knew that and still wanted it because he really felt he could fix it. Of course it pays well too. However, we both agreed he would be in a better position if he got a different P5 job than UT. It is a mess and Currie is going to have his hands full.

Yea, the wheels have come completely off. Puzzling.

No it's not. You should check how Barnes finishes all seasons. His players get tired of his bs and they stop playing. Happened all the time at Texas. Winning % was much much less at the end of seasons

Smh. We are so divided amongst the power players, that it's not even funny. Now wonder we can't have anything nice. Get used to mediocrity on the Hill as long as these yahoos are calling the shots.

200 dollar wire and you think we will have Clemson bagmen rolling around? We are stuck and so is Butch and everyone else.

Butch has done what we hoped he would. It really seems like he has turned the offense over to a Scott. Scott got his QB coach and his WR coach. Butch let him hire his guys. Same thing with Shoop from what people have written. I think we're going to see a big difference going forward.

I'm not sure this is all true.

Go back to December and few were hoping Scott would be our new OC (some were hoping we bring in a hotshot QB coach to CO-OC with Debord and some wanted to keep Debord). Once Debord was fired, most people wanted an outside hire. We came to terms with Scott thought.

As for Scott hiring his guys, you can definitely say that for Beard. But Butch even admitted in an interview that he'd set his mind on Canales from the outset and had to sell the rest of the offensive staff on it.

All that being said, I do think we're in a better place staff wise than this time last year.

Your opinion isn't worth that much!!! Go ahead and make that identical list! I dare you!!!

Ha! Jokes on you mister. I had already made two copies. All I had to do was fold the second one up and put it in my other pants pocket!

Now, if I could only remember what I did with that damn pair of pants.....I wouldn't be running around in my skivvies right now lookin' like a fool.

I think they are just worn out. Smaller team that has had to play harder all season than they may have had to with some bigger guys in the middle.

Just speculating/guessing. Really don't know. :dunno:

I agree. They hit the freshmen wall and couldn't play through it. Bowden missing three games and most of tonight has not helped. We are going to finish closer to 13th than it looked like we would most of the season. Williams has been a really nice surprise and I sure wish Fulkerson could have played all year. I think things might of been different.

I agree. It's turning out to be disappointing, but man it's hard to be too upset about it. They were fun to watch this year...until they hit that wall...and the future really is starting to look a little brighter for TN BB. Still may be a couple of years away, but it does look like it's heading that direction at least.

Yes, and if Pons sticks and handles the ball a little better we could be special. It will be interesting to see what he can do against SEC defenses.

I gotcha. Some seem to think that Cunningham was the target from the time she arrived here. I don't blame Currie at all. As I have said, it is disrespectful to two very loyal Tennessee people to handle it the way it was done. It is just so dang typical. It seems like Davenport is just trying to fit in with the power brokers and not step on any toes early in her tenure.

What BS would that be? I guess that also explains the two SEC tournament wins last year. Oh. Wait.
