My opinion....Fulmer thought he had the job as soon as he usher Chris Low and others in the media to say he was "close to being announced". I really like Coach Fulmer, but that was a clear power play that didn't work.

Butch has done what we hoped he would. It really seems like he has turned the offense over to a Scott. Scott got his QB coach and his WR coach. Butch let him hire his guys. Same thing with Shoop from what people have written. I think we're going to see a big difference going forward.

How many African Americans have we had as coaches at once? I finally like the direction we are going with the coaching power moves.

I've always thought he's been pretty fair to UT in his coverage, though sometimes his frankness isn't appreciated by UT fans.

The guy loves Knoxville though and you can tell he'd love to see Tennessee back in its former glory.

To be honest, it sounds to me like many of you may need to re-evaluate yourselves and consider possibly only being casual UT fans. Buy a ticket here and there, or sit in the comfort of your own home and watch games. Anything beyond that may be just a little too much for you to handle.

With all due respect Baldy, I love you man, but you can take this crap sammich and slop it up all you want, hell I'm sure the as holes running UT are glad to serve you plenty of seconds, but as for me, I'm calling it like I see it, it's a crap sammich. Currie is their lackey. It is obvious to me that is why he got the job.

Overall the coaching moves were a big "meh." I don't think we downgraded, but I don't think it's necessarily the home run off season the pumps think it is.

Happy to change my tune if the recruiting and on the field returns are up though.

Love you too man and respect your strong stance on it, but show me how it is obvious if you would.

Why is Currie being hired because of supposed (I guess that's what people are saying) connections any different than say Blackburn being hired with his connections or Fulmer being hired with his connections. They both have a lot of connections with TN. Had either of them been hired. It would have been prised and there would have been no mention of connections and damn sure would not have been anyone using the word lackey about them. Isn't that what either one of them would have been though? A lackey to someone? If being a lackey is based off of someone pushing for you to get the job. They all fall into that category.

Simple questions to ask...

Can he do the job?

Could Fulmer or Blackburn do the job better? If you answer no (even if you feel they could do it the same, not necessarily worse), then what is the problem. If you answer yes. Then ask the next question. Why do you think that? Not because I heard this from someone or I read this somewhere....why do you think it?

Could we have hired someone that would be beholding to no one? That answer is pretty much no.

What Do I really know about what happened? Not hearsay from someone who knows someone.

I think they are just worn out. Smaller team that has had to play harder all season than they may have had to with some bigger guys in the middle.

Just speculating/guessing. Really don't know. :dunno:

Hoke...like I said, eh. It's not a declarative statement. He was a good HC at a couple of small schools, but I just don't see much in his recent resume to be excited about.

I get that you are trying to point out the hypocrisy in my snap judgments, but I'm not really going out on a big limb here.

It's not that it's Currie (for me). It's that NO ONE got a fair shake at it. Davenport, committee and search firm ended up interviewing one guy collectively. If three to five qualified people were interviewed by all three, I'd have no problem right now. How does Davenport know that DB or Fulmer aren't qualified? She didn't interview them. How can this collection of entities know who or who isn't qualified without a legitimate talent pool throughout the interview process?

Perhaps if they took another two weeks (hell it's been 7 months already) they could have found a mutually agreeable candidate and gathered all information on the hire. Check references, review the candidate with people he or she worked with, etc. What does Davenport have to lose in making sure all entities interviewed the guys that the fan base requests. The committee being divided makes the idea of having a committee pointless. Why have one if an executive decision will be made anyways. Just appears like gross mismanagement and it looks like we replaced an incompetent booger eater with an incompetent culture ignorer.

Yea, I definitely think they've run out of gas (keeping with car theme analogies:)). I'm not worried about the future of the BB team.

On your first point. Yeah. I got nothing. If you can't teach your DB's to turn their damn head around, the only fitting description for you IMO is....you sucked. I however wouldn't be an upgrade. I would have killed the little pe**erheads the first time they screwed up and we wouldn't have had any DB's at all.

Your second point I do disagree with though, because I actually think you have it backwards. He isn't known for being a good HC IMO. He wasn't that great of one. What he is known for is being a really good to great DL coach. IMO we at worst break even on DL coaching (I think Strip did a fine job...injuries were the problem IMO), and possibly/probably have upgraded. Bonus is that Strip is still at UT.

No big deal. Honestly, I'm more in wait and see mode anyway. I'm not sure why I even decided to jump in the fray on Bass's post. I think it's pretty well established that I'm a proud negavol, but I've been pretty committed to avoid peppering my opinion lately and at least see how the spring shakes out.

Maybe the new AD just got my posting juices flowing and I had to get something out there. Guess it's time for a cold shower.
