In all actuality Cheek should have made the hire.

When you ask a new President to make a hire within her first few months as big as the AD it puts her and the BOT in a bad spot. She had to be the bad guy in this scenario. She walks in and sees the dysfunction abounding as the group is arguing over Blackburn and Fulmer.

She did what any person of authority would do. She took over and found a guy with Power 5 experience and a Graduate of The University of Tennessee.

People are going to get their feelings hurt. I have to place blame on the morans that could not get it right prior to the new President's arrival.

With all this being said, let's give Currie a chance. I think he will be just fine.

This is where I'm headed. Not really because the administration makes me angry though. I'm so worn down with all the negativity. Every single day it's something new.

The exciting basketball team full of freshmen loses a game.... Oh we're soo cursed!!!

It couldn't possibly be that this team is laying a solid foundation for years to come.

Oh my gosh we didn't get the quality control coach that I wanted and the new guy doesn't have quality control experience!!! We're doomed!! Same old Tennessee!!

Blah blah blah on and on. Day after day. Do some of y'all even like sports? I mean. That's all this is. Games. Played by college kids. It's awesome. And can be real fun.

But in case you didn't realize, we're not owed a championship in every sport every year. That's not our God given right as TN fans.

I mean, does all this stressing about every detail and every hire add to your enjoyment of the games? I would ask yourself that. Because there are lots of people making money off your freaked out clicks and that's why weve got this watered down media coverage that never actually tells us anything interesting about the football team I love.

I want to read about the new strength coach and how this talent is developing in the weight room. Something. Is it okay to still root for this team? Or does that make me some type of sellout? Is being a true fan mean we have to carry a pitch fork every day? If so, I'm out.

Sorry for the rant. Just had a lot floating in my head recently I guess. I just want to root for the Vols and hope for the best. To each their own I guess.

Go big orange forever

Who was the one guy?

The guy we hired.

It's not that it's Currie (for me). It's that NO ONE got a fair shake at it. Davenport, committee and search firm ended up interviewing one guy collectively. If three to five qualified people were interviewed by all three, I'd have no problem right now. How does Davenport know that DB or Fulmer aren't qualified? She didn't interview them. How can this collection of entities know who or who isn't qualified without a legitimate talent pool throughout the interview process?

Perhaps if they took another two weeks (hell it's been 7 months already) they could have found a mutually agreeable candidate and gathered all information on the hire. Check references, review the candidate with people he or she worked with, etc. What does Davenport have to lose in making sure all entities interviewed the guys that the fan base requests. The committee being divided makes the idea of having a committee pointless. Why have one if an executive decision will be made anyways. Just appears like gross mismanagement and it looks like we replaced an incompetent booger eater with an incompetent culture ignorer.

I agree. The process was stupid, and that is putting it nicely. Many people though, feel it's necessary to take it out on the guy that was hired.

Regardless of what I think of the rest of it...IMO, Currie was a good hire.

On top of everything else. How can anyone, and I mean anyone, think it's a good idea to air all of their grievances out about the way they feel through the media and social media. I keep hearing about how it is all so embarrassing, and how it makes UT look stupid. You know what else is making us look stupid. All the ******* local media and social media whining.

The same people that everyone assumes we're a laughing stock to, because of the way it was handled, are the same people who get to hear and see all the whining that fans and people associated with the program are throwing out there. Doesn't seem to bother anybody that the same recruits/potential recruits and their families along with the rest of the college football world are getting to see first hand the stupidity of not only the local radio/sports stations, but the UT fanbase as well. I guess that little part of it doesn't matter though, as long as everyone gets to say their piece and have their voice heard.

Embarrassing? Yes. It is all quite embarrassing...media and fans included. At this point the only thing about it that is not embarrassing is the guy that was hired as the AD.

:hi:

I can agree with this. Our reaction as fans haven't been great. I think it stems from the lack of trust in the UT administration and this only reinforced it with something tangible.

Great post.

Exactly. Add in we have no idea who talked with Cunningham, who played us just like he did Florida, which also should have been a clue to the clueless.

We're going with "you agree with me". Got it.

Lol, actually yes.

Claiming someone would be a great hire when they have Tennessee ties, despite their history of dividing the base and questionable coaching hires, does seem risky.

But that's what we just did. :) (insert evil laughter here)

Seriously though, it's done now.
I'm just strapping in for the ride and hoping for the best. We'll all be right here no matter the outcome, we're Vols.

I'm still holding out hope that maybe we won't ALL be here...lol

I'm working on my list of people that I wouldn't miss if they chose not to return. When said list is complete...you got it...it's getting folded up and put in my back pocket. I don't like being that harsh, but sometimes it's got to be done.

Sarge needs this place. You don't have to make a list that only shows him 10 separate times

Yeah really.
My list is honestly very short but there are a few.
When posts seem to be consistently (always) made for no other purpose than instigation, being a Vol stops appearing to be the reason for their attendance.

Butch Jones with some pretty good coaching moves this off season.

I've been away for a few days, did I miss anything? 😬😬

In all seriousness, Spring football can't come soon enough. It'll give us all a break from this AD talk.
