As a former WR, I always got a lower stance to explode out off the snap. That, and making sure the back leg was ready to engage. Often times you see a WR come off the snap with a false step backwards. As such, I've never criticized CZA's stance, but I'm also not a high level coach. That's just what I was taught, and it makes sense. Power comes from loading the quad and glute, then go

It was the overemphasis of the crouch that was the problem. Every individual has a separate "breaking point" from being in an explosive stance to crossing that line into a submissive stance. Think of it this way, when doing squats, you naturally stop at a certain point so you don't get caught where you can't push back up. Every body is different and each person has a different stopping point, which is the "breaking point" I am referring to. Azzani would make every wide receiver, regardless of size and build, get in the exact same position level whether they were 5'10 and 185lbs or 6'4 and 225lbs. This led to some of our larger wr's feeling awkward and unexplosive at the hike. It started to be corrected when CBJ stepped in last year.

I somehow hurt my neck at crossfit yesterday. It was a steady sharp pain last night but waking up this morning & it's almost unbearable. Can't move it left, right, up, or down.

Any tips at all? Been icing it but not really helping..absolutely miserable. I'm assuming it's just a muscle issue

Yeah quit doing CrossFit

Dang I was volfan_17'd

Yep.

I've never played football. Wish I did. But being a scientist I chose not to criticize CZA for that stance like you. It literally is physics. If you sprint your first motion is to bend a leg to bring power to your initial acceleration giving you a quicker acceleration off the snap. If you are already in that stance then you eliminate time which is important.

Check my post above, hope this helps.

What happened to just working out?

Depends on what you are looking for. Olympic weightlifting and HITT just don't mesh together. Olympic lifting requires technique and precision which is something most CrossFit trainers do not know how to teach effectively

I can surely see how that would be a problem. Too much "crouching" would actually slow down your initial acceleration from the way I see it. And of course being natural for the wideout. I think last year they looked more natural in their stance compared the the year before. They didn't look like they were trying to ball up into a standing fetal position and hide from everyone.

I lifted for the first time in about two years on Sunday. Still hobbling around. Just hoping that I can make it a consistent habit from now on. I had a good run of lifting regularly when I was 19-22 or so, then fell out of it. Have had multiple stretches since then where I'll go to the gym religiously for 3-4 months, then skip a week, and then slowly fizzle out.

Don't hope

Hold yourself accountable and do it

This^ combined with just working out is the way to go

Hate to be that guy, but preservatives do not preserve your life

Actually, I was being mostly sarcastic. But, I do agree with you. I will say that eating healthy and regular working out (lifting weights and running/walking) is actually the best way to go about it. 80% of losing weight (if that is your goal) is watching what you eat. Working out will just help speed it up. The problem with today's food culture is that it is so much more easy on the bank account to buy the less-healthy foods.

One thing that needs to be taught (and I'm guilty of the opposite) is if you eat healthy you will need less so in the end it evens out cost wise

True. I'm guilty of the opposite as well. Pretty fixed income right now and working towards a much larger one when I graduate. I still try to eat my greens and cut out as much junk food and soft drinks as possible, but my sweet tea I dunno if I can give up :). One thing that is hard to cut out is carbs. Darn pastas and breads...

They may have backed themselves into a good hire, we'll find out eventually, but this process has been a joke and reeks of a panic hire made without much forethought, after months of playing grab*** round the tree.

Or maybe they finally found the guy they wanted.

Change is hard. People capable of driving change will upset folks along the way. I've worked with bulldogs that I didn't like, and then did like. The only difference was whose leg was getting chewed on at the time.

Take two weeks off. When you go back, take it easy on the Olympic stuff and pull ups for a while. Don't try to set new personal records or anything. If the wod has cleans or pull ups, find a modification for the next few weeks.

As a sprinter, totally. WR's also need their hands to beat press coverage. Crouching tiger allows the DB's to beat up the WR's a lot easier cause their hands aren't ready to protect their upper body, imo.

These.

These principles are the same in most sports. The method employed should be designed around body type and other physical characteristics.
