He is more qualified- not sure that can be debated. Who knows if he is better? I wanted Blackburn. But Currie is a UT guy, knows the school, knows the conference, and has been at a Power 5 school for almost 8 years.

They're both Hamilton guys. Blackburn has had more success by far, but Currie has been at a P5 program. I agree Currie probably wins when it comes to experience, but K-State fans are elated to see him go, and that has me worried.

Does anyone have an answer as to why Currie should do well here? Don't know a ton about him besides the Weber and Snyder hires. Will he be willing to spend the money to attract a top level football coach? Good connections? I'll hang up and listen.

Why do we need a "top" level football right now? I only see 2 coaching changes he's going to worry about in the near future. Women's BB and baseball, but the basevols are doing good right now so maybe not that one.

Hiring a new coach is like 1% of the job of an AD

It's ridiculous to think we are now magically a worse Athletic Department now. Imo K-State football and basketball (really the only two sports I watch, and easily the most popular two along with baseball) are at a pretty high level for being K-State. Didn't they make the elite 8 in basketball within the past 3-5 years? I know their football team has been up and down the last few years, but in the last 7-8 years Currie has been there, they've seen some good days.

I know success in single programs isn't all on the AD, but he hasn't royally screwed up and been an above average athletics school at a very average athletics school.

Their football coach is also 147 years old. Up and down should be expected

So Donna and Bev get their guy. Who knows how it will go? He has the UT ties and he ran a clean program at K-State. He also has the Butch tradition of losing to UT before being hired by UT. He may get lucky and Butch, Rick, Dave and Holly all start having stellar seasons. If not, he will be making hires and then there will be no hiding his competency level.

Could honestly care less any more. They are going to do whatever suits them. Just want the football team to start winning at an elite level.

K-State and South Carolina have had opposite trajectories since Martin left Manhattan and arrived in Columbia, though.

I didn't say Martin wasn't a good coach. Moreover, hindsight is 20-20. At the time Weber was hired, it was seen as a very good hire, IIRC. His resume at Illinois was very good. Over 9 years, he won ~70% of his games, was an annual tournament team, etc. So, to get him to come to Kansas State was a pretty big deal.

This hire reeks of doing anything but what the fan base wants. I don't think David was ever on the table once the title IX hire arrived on campus. We will never field a championship caliber program in any sport until we have a culture change on every level of the UT administration. This is not a slam at Butch. Butch can't do it alone, it's takes a dedication at all levels from the BOT on down and we currently don't have that.

Eh. Martin hasn't exactly set the world on fire in Carolina. 2 sub-.500 seasons, and an NIT bid to this point while the SEC has been awful. His only good record was built on a hilariously awful schedule, this years is marginally better.

He should finally get into the tournament this year if he can stop the skid they've been on. Maybe the trajectory is a little better but I'd have to see it over more than a year.

Weber improved this year as well, but the record isn't quite as gaudy in a better conference.

When and if the time comes, which could very well be after next season. My main concern would be if there is a move made with Jones, is he gonna want to hire some young up and comer for chump change or will he be willing to open up the checkbook to attract a proven winner, if he's out there and available.

This is not only level headed but the right take here

Currie had better get the job done. It is one thing to make a hire, but if it is a hire in direct opposition to fan wishes, the powers that are had better be ready to brace for the uproar if things go awry.

I am so freaking sick of this horsecrap. This is not patriotic protest, this is just taking a massive dump on the nation. MLK is a hero to me. He challenged this nation to rise to the ideals it had built it's very foundation on. He did not do what these lowlife jackasses are doing. They are adding to the fracturing of the USA. They are not building it up, they are helping to destroy it.

I realize I'm a half day behind in this thread but I like this post so much I didn't think my one "like" was enough. Bravo sir.

Bruce Weber is about to go to his 3rd NCAAT out of 5 years at KSU. Martin will make his first this year. The two leagues aren't comparable. Where do they go from here? Don't know. But I think you have to give the nod to Weber since Martin left.

Weber isn't going this year

Maybe I'm optimistic, but maybe he "only cared about a clean program" because KSU was a stepping stone for him. Think about it. If he wanted the UT job, why let KSU screw him by bending the rules?

Yes UTC fans are happy with him, the women just won another socon championship and the men had some injuries and lost games down the stretch. Didn't Blackburn turn down MissState AD job waiting for this one to come open? I think it was John Brice that was on WNML saying Currie burned bridges in the AD and didn't see Fulmer working with him.

Don't think he rehired Snyder. I believe he was hired as AD in May, 2009 after Snyder was hired at the end of the previous year.
