I wanted Blackburn two months ago, and I said that. But you guys need to slow the roll on the Currie hate. His name has come up every time the AD job has been open, and I doubt he wanted the cluster that we were after Hamilton. I don't believe it's a bad hire.

Hope you guys enjoy being good at rowing and soccer.

Come on, now. You're usually a pretty reasonable dude. I get it. I thought Blackburn was the best by far. You may be right in the end, but shouldn't we give him a chance to see what he can do?

I asked this in the FF but not sure I'll get an answer.
Does anyone know about hires he made a Kansas State?

And of course I'm asking understanding its K State. I wasn't expecting Meyer, just are they good hires for Kansas State? In any followed sport?

Here's what we know:

He's a TN guy who worked at a power 5 program. He seems to have been successful at that program. Given that it's K State with an 80 year old football coach, although a good one, I'm not sure what we could see there that would make us either thrilled or upset about the hire. I like that he's a TN guy, that's what we wanted. I like that he has experience, we wanted that too.

I think the other stuff about him being a "yes man", "someone they can control", and "not a winner", is probably speculation. Vol Colonel is freakin out about it on twitter, but hasn't given any reasons why it is a bad hire. Unless you guys know something I don't, I don't see a reason to be upset about it unless it's just because his name isn't David Blackburn

He might be weak but I don't think the winner comment is fair. Bill Snyder does a fine job at Kstate and there's no way in hell Currie was ever going to interfere with him. He coaches on a field named after him. Currie also hired Bruce Weber which at the time was an incredible hire for the basketball program there. Weber took Illinois to the national championship.

Weber fell of really hard at Illinois, so not really an incredible hire.

With that said, KSU is not a desireable place to coach at in any sport, regardless of what their fans think.

Sounding like we let this chancellor woman make the hire. And she hires the chosen candidate of the lone woman on the search committee.

Tennessee is a joke.

The intimations that the chancellor's gender and the gender of members of the search committee had something to do with this are baseless.

We're ascribing all kinds of nasty motives to people about a process that no one except Jimmy Hyams apparently knew anything about.

Looking back at the timeline, I don't think he has hired a football coach. Snyder was hired several months before he became AD. I think he only hired Bruce Weber in basketball. I think I remember that he and Frank Martin did not get along.

To be fair, the hire has been solid. They are competitive and will be going to the NCAAT.

Weber won at Illinois with Bill Self's recruits (who wouldn't?). Deron Williams, Dee Brown, Luther Head, what a trio!

Ok, we have the staff now we need the boosters to step up. Get the number one recruiting class for a few years win it all and then you won't have to pay anymore, for a few years.

Two things I'm getting from this. The UTAD said Bohn was in the running so they could hire this guy with what they thought would be little to no backlash. This guy is the "Yes Man" that the UT wanted. Now for a serious question. Who has he hired? And I'm not talking about big names I'm talking about in general, in any sport, who did he hire?

I think he hired Bruce Weber, when Martin left for USCe.

So far that's the only knock I see of him. He has only hired 1 coach for a major sport because no one else is saying what hires he made (if any) on the lesser sports.

Fulmer will be a fan of the hire. He worked under Hamilton, but from what I understand, they are definitely different.

He was involved in hiring Pearl, Kiffin, and Raleigh while at Tennessee

I am not blaming him for this, but Raleigh was the absolute worst hire we have made in any sport. Well, except for maybe Dooley. I heard that they had another guy agree in principal, scheduled the press conference and then the guy backed out because his current school told him they would improve the facilities, Hamilton decided that they had to go ahead and hire Raleigh at that point because the press conference was already scheduled.

Does it matter that much? As long as he tries to upgrade and get the best person available with each hire, he is doing his job. At UT, football runs the show. As long as he understands that, he should be alright.
