Tenn and BYU agree to home and home

I wouldn't be surprised if the game in Provo is a 9 or 10 EST kickoff. Also, didn't they rush the field after beating Miss State this past season? I think they did, which is pretty pathetic.

Beating an SEC school regardless of who it is was a big deal for them.

I would say to gain 2 years experience would help about 75% of the time. I wonder if they have compared actual results Vs prediction. I consider them like a GA Tech West. A gimmie game and a waste of a good Saturday in the fall.

Who is making this deal anyway? There is no value to us playing BYU. If we win, so what, to some how lose then what?

Who was thinking? Let's go to Utah! Nobody.

I'd rather go to Tallahassee, Clemson or Texas. Utah is for the birds.

They are inferior, it's a waste of time.

It is closer to the Grand Canyon and 4 Corners.

Let's Go!

What's the date? I was gonna put in some PTO.

Go Vols!

BYU has as many natty's as UT in my lifetime. I like the matchup.

I am LDS and 10000000% Vol.

Just remember there are plenty of LDS folks in our area who bleed orange (my immediate family shares 7 UT degrees), and most of us detest BYU football with the fire of 1,000 suns.

And for the record, while most of us can take a joke (I've been made fun of my entire life), you might be interested to know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints abandoned the practice of polygamy in 1896. The people you see on TV are every bit LDS as the Westboro people are Baptist.

a good portion of the kids do it though required or not, thus they are older and have some life experience that makes them a tad bit more mature then most scholarship players at others universities....IMO

They are just more mature and level-headed than your typical college football player to begin with.

They go on the mission because they are mature, not mature because they went on the mission.

I like it. BYU is a prominent football school, if I'm still alive I may go to the game in 23'.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but as BYU is an independent, that counts as meeting the SEC's "scheduling a Power 5 team" requirement for those years, right?

Yes. When the rule was first created it was only Notre Dame but in 2015 they changed it to include BYU and Army as well.

This isn't a terrible OOC matchup, but I'd much rather us play a PAC-12 school home and home.

No it isn't. Name their last big time bowl appearance.

A lot of that has to do with conference ties. BYU has had good enough teams to go to the Citrus but the MWC champ plays in the Vegas bowl.

They've had five 10-win teams in the last decade and they only ever play 13.

Strength of schedule led to many of those 10 win seasons. I'm cool with the matchup, but I can see why folks are hating on it.

Weirdest Mormon fact(as far as I'm concerned)

They teach the Earth is only 7,000 years oid so their theory on fossilized dinosaur bones is they traveled here from other planets. Bazinga!

The thing I am interested in is who does Tennessee play in 2020? The only ones who do not have a power-5/Independent on the schedule currently are North Carolina, Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, Northwestern and Washington State. I suspect whoever it is, it will be neutral site action but I don't think it will be Nebraska since they have a series in 2026 and 2027. On the same token I don't think it will be Oklahoma since they only recently had a series against each other.

Hoosiers, Debord reunion unless he retires.

True, but last time they won 11 they played OU, FSU, TCU, Oregon St, and Utah.

This is not true. At all. This is not a teaching. The only partial truth here is that they believe God took matter from other worlds to make this world.

Now some Mormons might believe this, but it's not a teaching.

BYU is a bit of an enigma when it comes to the schedule. As an independent, they usually get decent early season games against Power 5 teams, but then by November when everyone else is in conference it is difficult to schedule and so you see some Idahos, Wagners, et al. in November. Hence they can be 3-3 to start the season and finish 9-3. As an independent, they either get a New Years Six or get relegated to a third level bowl game.

However, it makes BYU dangerous in an early season matchup. This Tennessee game will be their bowl game and they are dangerous. They regularly hang with the Pac-12 teams. Could they handle the rigors of a 12 game SEC schedule? Doubtful. Could they tangle with Tennessee on a September evening? Absolutely. The good thing is in 2019 they will be breaking in a new quarterback.
