The thing I am interested in is who does Tennessee play in 2020? The only ones who do not have a power-5/Independent on the schedule currently are North Carolina, Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, Northwestern and Washington State. I suspect whoever it is, it will be neutral site action but I don't think it will be Nebraska since they have a series in 2026 and 2027. On the same token I don't think it will be Oklahoma since they only recently had a series against each other.

Do the athletic directors do the scheduling and does CBJ have any input into the schedule?

Good to see UT and BYU play each other.

The mission has nothing to do with school, they don't have to go, and it's only 2 years, not 3.

Anybody remembed JT Mapu? He was probably better before his mission, tbh.

a good portion of the kids do it though required or not, thus they are older and have some life experience that makes them a tad bit more mature then most scholarship players at others universities....IMO

If two years off in the middle of your college career was any kind of advantage, don't you think other schools would figure out a way to do the same? Older and more mature is more than offset by two years completely away from the game and training.

Yeah, for some players it's an advantage, for some it's not.

Yeah, for some players it's an advantage, for some it's not.

I would say to gain 2 years experience would help about 75% of the time. I wonder if they have compared actual results Vs prediction. I consider them like a GA Tech West. A gimmie game and a waste of a good Saturday in the fall.

Who is making this deal anyway? There is no value to us playing BYU. If we win, so what, to some how lose then what?

Who was thinking? Let's go to Utah! Nobody.

I'd rather go to Tallahassee, Clemson or Texas. Utah is for the birds.

They are inferior, it's a waste of time.

It is closer to the Grand Canyon and 4 Corners.

Let's Go!

What's the date? I was gonna put in some PTO.

Go Vols!

Little more information on the games:

2019: Game at Tennessee will be September 7
2023: Game at BYU would be either September 1 (Friday) or 2 (Saturday). If someone made me bet right now I'd guess Friday because if BYU stays independent then ESPN will be the television and they like the BYU Friday night thing.

Mind you that it was not a foregone conclusion that the game would be in September. As an independent, BYU has to schedule home games for November and, occassionally, can entice a Power 5 team like Georgia Tech to come in November. For a team like Tennessee that could be disastrous as the temperature tends to drop into the 30s and 40s then. As it is, with the low humidity a September 1/2 game would be probably the best weather you can imagine. Start time temp around 75 and a slight chill in the air.

Looks like Tennessee was the initiator if I'm reading BYU's AD's statement right: "There's something about those orange and white checkerboard end zones that shouts 'Tradition!'," BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe said in a university release. "When the opportunity to play a series with Tennessee presented itself, we didn't blink. They're a storied football program with a winning tradition, national championships, a classic stadium, incredible fans and hall of fame coaches. It will be a great experience to visit SEC country and play in Neyland Stadium, and later host Tennessee in Provo."

Also, BYU will be the meat in a Georgia State (8/31) and Chattanooga (9/14) sandwich in 2019. All games at Neyland.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game in Provo is a 9 or 10 EST kickoff. Also, didn't they rush the field after beating Miss State this past season? I think they did, which is pretty pathetic.

heres an article from five years back discussing it, feel free to read and see if it changes your opinion, may not, but still here ya go if ya want...

Men Amongst Boys: Is it Fair For BYU Benefit So Much From Mature Players?

“We have many athletes on our football team that have served LDS church missions,”
“We feel that these athletes have had a very positive impact on our program and add a level of maturity to the team. These athletes have been out on their own throughout different parts of the world for two years and have learned many life lessons and how to be self sufficient. As a coaching staff, any of our athletes that choose to serve religious missions have our full support.”

but they do offer a counter view which supports ur opinion on losing a kid for two years, arguments on both sides....
