Greg McElroy: "Josh Dobbs has quieted alot of naysayers this week at the senior bowl"

did anyone listen to McIlroy on Wednesday or Thursday can't remember which day, but he was all over Dobbs and not impressed, but at the same time you saw all the NFL reports about him etc that were in Dobbs favor.....sometimes these people make no sense....and should label their shows as "For Entertainment Purposes Only". Maybe I took him the wrong way but that is how I heard it.

I have no doubt that with better protection and a little more help from receivers, Dobbs is going to look better. We know he's smart and has enough arm strength.

So with all his brainpower, athleticism, knowledge of the game and QB position.....why again did we not win the east (much less the conference) with him at QB for 3 years?

I'm not knocking him (I hope he's wildly successful in the NFL), but after watching UT football for 40 years, it irks me that players shine spectacularly in the NFL after failure to achieve all they can at UT - in this case - the "W" column.

It'll be interesting to see what NFL coaches can do with Dobbs as compared to Dobb's previous mentors.

It makes me wonder if we underutilized his skills at Tennessee. I know he put up great numbers, but I think he was capable of so much more. I would like to know where the inconsistency with the game plans and the passing issues came from.

Yup

Ummm...shine spectacularly in the NFL? Were talking about senior bowl practice. Not the NFL. Practice. We talkin about practice.

First of all, we have not as of yet, been a pass happy offensive team. We actually run the ball a lot. Also, except for Josh Malone and Jauan Jennings this year, we haven't developed any top tier talent at WR. We also haven't had that Travis Kelce type threat at TE yet.

Wonder how Josh would have turned out if he'd been coached by Canales for four years.

Mike Mayock, who is a pretty astute analyst, wasn't too enthusiastic about any of the quarterbacks in Mobile. He said:

"QB who will make fastest NFL transition
Nate Peterman, QB, Pittsburgh: It's not a good quarterback year. I didn't come away from this week loving any of the six who were here. While I have a lot more work to do on all of them, I think Peterman's the one who can step in and be a backup in the NFL right away. He picks things up quickly. Joshua Dobbs and Davis Webb have a lot of upside with their arm strength, but both have a long way to go."

You never disappoint, very consistent!

When you have a line like he had. Sometimes he was unprotected by the left side and had to run for his life. Or receivers could not catch the dang football.

McElroy also went on to say he thought Dobbs performance at the senior bowl improved his stock from a 6th-7th round pick all the way to the 4th round. Also if you believe the buzz, the Cleveland coaching staff in particular Hue Jackson is in love with Josh Dobbs. In fact some think they might be targeting Josh with their 3rd round pick.

I haven't seen NFL Network's coverage of today's practice yet but from watching ESPN, everyone was gushing about Dobbs today. From Todd McShay calling him the biggest surprise of the week to Louis Riddick basically alluding to Tom Brady and Belichek when talking about the rapport developing between Dobbs and Hue Jackson to even Bill Polian, they were all raving about Josh.

Josh was the face of the south practice today with all the cameras on him at the end as well as getting the main post practice interview. Josh definitely stole the show today at the South practice if you watched ESPN's coverage. Louis Riddick went as far as to say he was the player he was most looking forward to watching play Saturday. Big week for Josh. He definitely upped his draft stock. Big time.
If the Browns are high on him then that means he is a bust.

This pretty much sums his entire time at UT. Yet he was still quite successful in lieu of all of this and never uttered a single word negative about it. Pure Class!, Character, and Integrity. Way to go Mom and Dad.

He will be on my Madden fantasy team next year, regardless of his ranking! He'll be a 99 before year 3. So will Kamara. I can't wait to see what they rate Kamara's speed, acceleration and agility.

For us completely old dudes, can you explain what this means. I know what Madden game is, but the rest of that is like reading another language.

Did the Vols underutlize Dobbs? Is that a trick question? We used him heavily in run and pass the last two years. How could have possibly utlized him more? He scored a big number of TDs this year--running and passing. It was not possible to utilize him more.

It's ludicrous to think that Dobbs could have been better?

Not what I meant... It's ludicrous to believe that Dobbs has arrived at his current skill level without any assistance from his college coaching staff. The fact is, when he arrived, he was a raw athlete that threw like a shortstop.

If anything hindered him, it may have been a suspect at best o-line line. He spent a lot of time running for his life; especially in 14 and 15. Honestly, I think we got the best out of him that we could.

Well...I know that Peterman had his chances here and looked terrible.....but his performance at Pitt--and his performance against Clemson at Clemson definitely makes CBJ and the offensive staff here look questionable....in their ability to develop QBs...

No doubt Dobbs was the better athlete and best choice as we look back, but if Peterman could've been ready sooner maybe Josh would have been able to RS....

Well, all of your conjecture here was thrown out the window when you watch the film of this year's SCe defensive game plan....You simply can't say that his OL is an excuse when he goes 31/34 against Vandy, but stinks it up when SCe drops into zone coverage and Josh looks like he's lost...

It's obvious that Muschamp's plan was to force us into 2nd or 3rd and longs and make Dobbs beat them throwing the football.....He even said as much in the half-time interview as he left the field--"...we're going to make him play the position..." meaning we're gonna see if Dobbs can beat us THROWING the ball as we rush 3 or 4 and drop into zone coverage...

And I disagree that UT got all we could out of Dobbs...Josh still missed a lot of open receivers in a lot of games as a SR...

Those results are already in.....

Nevertheless, I hope Josh gets the chance to play QB in the NFL....if anyone has earned it--HE HAS....and hopefully they will have someone in the NFL who can improve everything in his passing game...

I don't disagree that the O line did him no favors, a la Worley. I simply think that his development under this staff was not what it could have been with better QB coaching. Who knows, they now get a chance to show what they can do again with the QB battle we'll have. Perhaps Dobbs was the problem, perhaps the staff was. We will see soon.

I guess my thing is....If he's not making those throws as a Senior, what else were they ever going to get out of him?

Dobbs underutilization all came down to one thing. O-Line.

He never had the protection needed to show his skills. If you want to see what Dobbs looks like behind a great O-line its easy. Look at Jalen Hurts' season this year and multiply it by a factor of about 2. In all seriousness, not joking at all. If we could have had bama's O-line on our team this year Dobbs wins the heisman unanimously. my soul tells me that.

Agree 100%. The offensive line was this team's achilles heal the last 3 years. The lack of improvement and development at that position was troubling.

I truly believe Dobbs and Kamara will be better in the NFL because they'll get better blocking.
