TrumPutinGate

What did you think about the crowd's reaction?

I have no idea. I just caught the last few minutes on the C-SPAN feed and it didn't show the audience during that time.

It seemed like the biggest applause line was when he stopped, but that may just be my reaction.

That, of course, was observed. You're definitely right.

But I was looking more at the crowd reaction, since it was supposed to be like some 300 or so CIA folk.

What did you think about the crowd's reaction?

I refuse to believe that 300 CIA employees would behave like that in a presidential speech.

That had to be mostly staged.

Trump on Iraq: “We should have kept the oil. Maybe we’ll have another chance.” WTF. He's crazy as hell.

Langley, VA Home of the CIA voted for Clinton by 17 pts. Romney won by 6. And Trump went there and pulled that BS.

Kind of telling, isn't it, that on Donny's first full day in office, he's making a public event out of his trip to the CIA.

Because, as we all know, that's what every new president does on his first full day on the job.

What does every other new president do on his first full day in office.

It will be interesting to read the media reports on this little CIA speech stunt.

The man calls the IC a bunch of Nazis one day, and we're supposed to believe they're just a bunch of glowing, clapping, cheering sycophants the next?

I'm not buying this. The biggest tip off to me that this is largely set up by Trump's people is when he ripped into the media for being vile and dishonest, and the whole crowd cheered wildly in applause.

There's no way you can convince me that a bunch of CIA folks would cheer wildly in applause to a president bashing our national media.

I bet you that this was a group of about 10-50 real CIA folks (at most), surrounded by 100-200 or more Trump folks.

That this was done in front of that wall of stars is a dishonor. An incredible insult.

This man is digging his own grave and doesn't even seem to know it.

I agree, it's common knowledge that the intelligence community and the press are best of buds.

Trump just gave a political rally speech in front of the CIA memorial. WTF.

We've got a president entering office under multiple espionage and ethics investigations (the latter is soon to come), has been at war with the IC for a month now, has rallies of millions of people around the country against him his first day in office, and there are still people who think this is all going to end just fine and dandy and that, four years from now, we're all just going to re-elect him.

I can't get my mind around that kind of stupid.

He said that in the speech?

I admit I was kind of in and out due to other things, but I couldn't believe the crowd applause for the idiotic things I did hear him definitively say.

I refuse to believe that was the CIA cheering.

It's kind of like we elected a Reality TV star, with his scripted routine, president or something.

In typical hog fashion, you jest, until you can't any longer.

If that was honestly 300 members of the CIA, then you and I, our families and our nation, are in a whole lot of trouble.

I wouldn't expect members of the CIA to react like that to any president, especially one who has just called them Nazis, essentially, a couple weeks ago. I would expect respectful applause to whatever he said, no matter what, basically, but I wouldn't have expected the 1980s Van Halen concert that it turned out to be.

You and I better pray to whatever gods we believe in that this was in reality just a Trump team staged act.

I think Obama played 18.

We've got a presidency in which legitimate concerns about his involvement with a major foreign enemy exist, and you're joking about Obama and golf.

This whole thing is still just surreal to me, even though I saw it coming. A nation of narcissists, and it wasn't a hard guess.

Trump on Iraq: “We should have kept the oil. Maybe we’ll have another chance.”

Anyway, I said earlier that Trump may have an isolationist posture on some fronts, but one of his many contradictions is his railing against ISIS, which could draw us into a (deeper) war in any of a dozen countries

I don't know why you're so hung up on this. Maybe they were just being polite? I doubt any of them has forgotten that he compared them to Nazis a few days ago.

Fixed.

That wasn't polite applause. Polite applause from the CIA for any president, even if he starts talking about locking up Muslims (which he didn't, for the record), would probably be expected.

But I don't expect Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" type of reaction to every comment he makes.

That's why I'm so hung up on it.

I'm seeing that a pro-Ukrainian feed is tweeting that the crowd was basically a Trump-stooge crowd.

I figured as much, but I will need more definitive proof than that before I say so definitely.

My jokes about Sputnik aside, I think you're right.

The BBC does a pretty darn good job.

No media source is ever completely free of bias. That's a unicorn.

But the BBC does as about as good a job as should be expected.

For the record, people think media is corrupted today and today only. They're novices who don't realize that the media today is about as objective as it as ever been. Sad, but true.
