Guarantano--The Future

But to say JG or QD can't be great because the others weren't great is being negative. Sure it could be right but them being great could be right too, it's just not negative.

Noone is saying they cant be great, just that we should probably at least see them play a down before we deem them the future? I know that is a bit reasonable and doesnt make for extreme discussions or sun shine pumping punch lines, but it is, or at least should be correct.

Agree. We need to recruit/sign more studs. Bama doesn't have that issue. Still, it is what it is. Injuries at key positions can kill a season. Not every team has Bama luxury. 95% of teams that have the injuries that we sustained wouldn't be bowl eligible in a major conference.

Gotta have the stud big boys up front on offense and defense, like the Vols had in the mid to late ninety's to compete for championships....must control the line of scrimmage on both sides

You are so ready to be called out for being negative you call yourself out before we get a chance to either call you our or just let it go.
State your opinion and then see what happens. It's like you want to tell everybody how you are about to be mistreated for your opinion. Wait till it happens and then complain. With all the negative vibes you give off I think you're right, you can wxpectt o be called crazy and negative. It's crazy how negative you can be, not real crazy just rediculous at times.

I admit I'm trying to have a good time anticipating a great year from our Vols. It appears you are trying to have a horrible day being miserable waiting for a bad year and you want as many to join your pitty party as possible.

Good luck with that.

Go Vols!

I never said they can't be great, all I am saying is lets hold off on anointing this kid "The Future" when we've never seen him play 1 snap...I hope like hell he's the best QB on CFB and wins 2 Heisman Trophies and leads us to 2-3 National Championships.

It's not being negative it's being realistic. Do you really think when Jalen Hurts walked on campus last summer at Bama, all the coaches were saying.."He's the future of this program??"

Josh Dobbs was unbelievable. Anyone can see that. It has been great watching him the past two years when he was the full time QB. Did he have his struggles? Absolutely. The kid is one of the most scrutinized players in UT history, but there were times when he took the team and carried them. He ended up with one of the best careers from a yardage standpoint in UT history. He will be missed. Thank you, Josh, for giving your all and being the ultimate ambassador for UT.

That said, JG's ceiling is through the roof. Everyone talks about how Jacob Eason has a rocket launcher attached to his torso, and that's true. (See the laser at the end of the UGA game this year.) I think JG has that same kind of rocket launcher, and is more mobile. He needs to work on his finesse throws for sure, and that's why we need a QB coach. When he gets that, the sky is the limit. Excited to see this kid ball out for years to come. No telling how far he can take this team.

I am not sure why.. but I have an overwhelming feeling about next season. Assuming this young man gets the QB position. This year IMO will make or break UT and Jones.

There is a lot of positive energy this off season. A lot of changes this off season.. for the better. Hopefully Jones will make the hire of his career and life with this OC...

Plllleeeaaase do not disappoint Volnation Coach Jones.

Why hold off? If not in 2017 or 2018 then 2019 and 2020.

That's the reason a program recruits players like JG it's with the intent of them being the future of the program or at least the QB of future.

Why pump the brakes on a brand new corvette while you're still in the drive way?

I view it differently. The way i see it, i did share my opinion in replying to a post.
And regardless of how you feel, my emotions are not attached in any way shape or form to anything said on volnation or what happens when 18 year old kids play a game. I love the vols and enjoy watching them play good, but a loss never ruins my day. Life is far bigger than football.
Im not miserable nor am i anticipating the vols having a horrible year. I wish them all well and hope they win every game. If you want to sike yourself up in hopes of a good season, knock yourself out, create all the this year is our year gameday signs you want. I like poking fun with about your little slogans and such, the fact that you take such offense to it shows how hard you are trying to sike yourself up for something you dont really believe to be true.
Since it bother you so much ill leave you alone

Looks like I struck a nerve. My bad. I've been taking it easy on the slogans so not to bug you with them, now that you say it doesn't bother you then, away we go.

Some of your predictions for the season have horrible all over them unless 4-6 losses is a good thing.

Go ahead and share you opinion but save us the pitty party of how you will get bash and called names. Whine about it after it happens.

That's just silly. He has had a whole year to putt putt around the track, now is the time to put the pedal to the medal.

What do you think he has been doing all year?

I get he hasn't had any live reps, but what about the QB at SC he only had practice and one game, I thought he did pretty good for a rookie.

I keep hearing about GaTech's offense but he will be playing against their defense, from what I hear, there ain't nothing special about that.

All riders ready! (For the BMX crowd.)

So me where i said 6 loses? I have constantly said 7-5 / 8-4 and maybe 9-3 if things go our way. Call it negative all you want, its alot more realistic than 16-0 with whatever corny slogan you want to attach to it to take the focus off the absurd prediction you make.

And no nerve struck, nothing anyone says on here will strike a nerve, its an internet chat board.
And please, run with all the slogans you want, you are the one that looks corny, not me. But if thats your thing, rock out.

Why can't it be Dormandy? or this new kid that just got on campus?? Hell maybe we get a transfer...a lot can happen. The kid may be the next Vince Young or Marcus Mariotta, we won't know till the fall

Can never be Dormandy.

Yeah, you clearly dont get it. Yes he has looked good in practice, but not a single live rep. So no, he hasnt been putt putting around the track all year, he has been in the garage, he hasnt even been on the track yet. You wan to proclaim him the future before he gets on the track, great have at it. Just be prepared for everyone to call you silly when you do.

Ill say, if GT is the benchmark, we got some issues.

But just like winning the MCB probably doesnt proclaim CBJ Big Game Butch, JG looking good in practice doesnt make him the future. But it does provide for good national punchlines, so knock yourself out.

My bad, unless you think 5 losses is a good thing. I think to predict 5 losses is predicting horrible things for the Vols.

I think we have 8 gimmie games and 4 toss ups.

Get er done Vols. (For the cable fans out there)

GT is the 1st game of the season. That's when JG and QD can see some live action.

No, but Hurts isn't as elite as Guarantano. Observe:

You think we have 8 gimmes and 4 toss ups, and im guessing the gimmes are Ind St, UMass, USC, UK, S Miss, Mizzu, Vandy and since im missing one, i guess you consider GT a gimme.

And the 4 toss ups as UF, UGA, Alabama and LSU.

So most likley scenerio is 8-4. Yet you completely avoid the trend that CBJ simply does not perform well against teams with equal or greater talent and is usually good to drop at least one game he shouldnt.
Another issue i have with your theory is how you could possibly consider USC and Vandy a gimme game, given that they beat them the last time they played and no cute little motivational slogan you put behind it changes that.

So he is my outlook:
GT - a true toss up, d should be quick enough to deal with option and our o should be able to move ball, home game for GT but vols travel well (win)
In St - win
UF - new QB in swamp - Loss
UMass - win
UGA - payback time for bulldogs, equal talent, edge goes to more experienced QB / RB combo - fair to consider a toss up - Loss
USC - home game - two weeks to sit on two SEC losses - toss up game - need to see CBJ beat CWM before i believe it - loss
Alabama - lol - loss
Kentucky - toss up game (i think we split UK and USC) so win
S. Miss - win
Mizzu - Win
LSU - talent advantage to LSU , coaching advantage to LSU, CBJ never beat a west team - Loss
Vandy - toss up but ill say we win

So 7-5 3-5 in SEC. Given that i can logically see 5 losses and CBJ is generally good for one bad lose, it may very well be 6-6, but maybe he splits UF / UGA and we are back to 7-5. Maybe they man up and beat both USC / UK and we are 8-4.

Lastly, Kentucky will be the 4th straight SEC game so injuries with little depth will be a concern .
And there i reach my conclusion of 7-5 as the most likelt scenerio.

But for fun ill try your way.
RAH RAH 16-0 Go Vols. (Mumbles motivational nonsense) Go vols. :) see i can do it
