Im pretty sure Guarantano won the strongest arm award at the Elite 11 over Eason. It remains to be seen how well he can read a defense but he has every single tool to be a franchise QB

I think that QD can help us have a prolific passing offense and I like him as starter next year. If JG does prove to be elite during practices and O/W game then he needs to start by all means. Let the competition begin.

That said, JG's ceiling is through the roof. Everyone talks about how Jacob Eason has a rocket launcher attached to his torso, and that's true. (See the laser at the end of the UGA game this year.) I think JG has that same kind of rocket launcher, and is more mobile. He needs to work on his finesse throws for sure, and that's why we need a QB coach. When he gets that, the sky is the limit. Excited to see this kid ball out for years to come. No telling how far he can take this team.

I don't regardless if someone separates himself from the other in fear that the QB not named the starter will leave the program.

Boy the negativity is strong in this thread. Dormady can throw, but unless he can run, he could be Worley 2.0. Our oline was suspect this past year. I know we have a bunch of 4*s & 5*s coming in for the oline, but the chances of those guys playing right away are traditionally low. Trey Smith may because he is an EE and that always helps to get a head start. Worley had one foot in the grave all season when he was a senior and finally got hurt because of his inability to escape, and unless our oline improves QD could meet the same fate. It wasn't until we put Dobbs in that our offense improved, and the "ok-ness" of our oline could very well be masked by Dobbs' escapability.

Also, neither Dobbs nor Worley (unsure about QD, but I doubt it) has the arm strength that JG has. Eason as a rocket, like Fade said above. Maybe more than any Freshman. But JG has a rocket too and he was tailor made for this offense in a way that QD just isn't in my opinion. This offense needs a running QB, and there is a reason everyone was so high on JG coming out of HS.

Somebody should tell Butch not to recruit players that obviously don't fit this "system", even if apparently many of us don't know what that is.

He'd save a lot of scholarships if he'd be more careful.

Well, CBJ disagress with you. He said in a press conference that his team had never spoken about winning the east or championships or anything. Maybe our definitions of high expectations are different.

I think they should be the same as they were going into last season. The offense will take a small step back and the Defense should take a big step forward.

I understand. But if your question above was serious, then refer to the 2016 season. People jumping out of windows because of 9-4 and losing their dignity calling our head coach unimaginable things. Some fans on here can't have a discussion without whining about it to this very day.

The "hype train" is what creates such massive disappointments. The smart $$$ went on the 9-3 or 10-2 season. Then as the months and the hype train rolled on, it became 10-2 or 11-1. Then "what the heck", if were good enough for 11-1, then Bama and their new QB better bring their A game or get ran out of Neyland. choo choo choooooooo. Then conventional hype train wisdom made winning the East a foregone conclusion with a Bama rematch for the playoff. Then, hey, we probably split with Bama anyway, so we may make the playoff even if we don't win the SEC. choo chooooooo choo

Then 1/2 our defensive 2 deep is injured and we lay two eggs against weaker rivals ... and BAM ... just like that the snowflakes are protesting in the streets, weeping like babies, and demanding somebody / anybody be fired. That's why.

But, hey, if your like me, just expect 15-0 and when 10-3 or 9-4 comes, just try to handle it like a stable human. :thumbsup:

Agree with all but the RB/WR statement. I believe Kelly will be a star next year. Just the way he hits a hole and runs angry. He is star material IMO. WR maybe. But I believe if JJ stays in WR, another year would make him a true deep threat.
