Secret Negas

"The same record is progress because the previous year would have been worse with the same injuries"

You realize that's a bit of a stretch, right? And that it's pretty whiny to call everyone names just because they don't buy your debatable argument?

Without question, the same # of injuries on last year's team would've meant a much worse season.

There is a gulf between what Negas expect, and what Posivols are willing to accept. Therein lies the friction.

Yes and no. So-called "negas" simply wanted 10-2 with an East title and trip to Atlanta and think 4 years is long enough to win in a down division. So-called "Posis" are fine with 4 losses, only compare Jones to Dooley and think he needs more time to clean up the mess...2-3 more years if Butch says so.

Not sure if that's a gulf or not, but those are the general points of difference imo.

Are you a secret nega? Here are ways to tell. Do you find nothing better to do than question the fanhood of fellow Vol fans simply because they have a different opinion? Do you confuse questioning a coach's ability to lead your team with actual support of the team? Do you find you have nothing better to do than regurgitate an argument made ad nauseam in multiple threads, all the while complaining about VN, while you are posting on VN. If these symptoms describe you, you may very well be a secret nega. That's right, you are secretly the very thing you rant and rave about and claim to hate. Welcome to the darkside.

and secret Negas? I'll say this: I've been critical of Jones for his attitude and lack of sophistication RE injury information and the press--but this constant slagging of our coach as become tiresome. He has, bottom line, significantly improved the program, and yet there are a lot of goofs who are still upset by the way this past season ended--their feelings were hurt. And we've had a wave of negative threads about next year and the next OC, despite the small fact that the next OC hasn't been named yet. Give it a rest--the season is over.

I don't think Butch is the greatest. He is very flawed. His love for his program though reminds me of Dabo taking over Clemson. I don't think Dabo is the greatest either but knows his flaws and knew he needed upgrading for them. But I pray Butch upgrades his staff to make Tennessee one of the greatest....just as Dabo has done. If that makes me a sunshine pumper because I'm wanting the greater good now...then so be it.

Butch had us on course to have the kind of year Clemson has seen lately. Exactly a year ago EVERYBODY here was jacked up about our prospects for '16, especially after the Shoop hire. We had exceeded expectations in '15 (17 pts away! heh) and the national word was UT was back. So if nothing else CBJ get's credit for that much, right?

So yeah, this past season was crap and Butch's program backed up instead of advancing. Many have already decided he's not the guy, and there's evidence aplenty to make that case. Just like there was evidence 12 months ago that the program was in the greatest shape it's been in half a generation.

Agree with you completely - pray that Butch makes the right decisions and hope for the best now. Let next season play out.

Because we'd lose to Missouri? Vandy? Kentucky?

That's very far from "without question"

It is foolish to think that not only the number but who we lost was devastating, especially on defense. Just because some don't want to acknowledge that doesn't make it fact.

Saying "this is what would have happened in this hypothetical scenario" is not a fact. Which 2015 win would have turned into a loss?

Ive been a nega ever since the least qualified person to make a major college football hire choose A gym teacher to be head coach at ut. That's all it took for it to come out. And as much as I hope I was wrong about Butch, more and more of y'all are starting to realize the truth. We'll never be great without great coaching.

Losing to Vandy and South Carolina already qualifies as "much worse" and the only way to actually be worse is to lose to even more bottom feeder teams.

Butch will go Butch. Every year.

Losing Mariota devastated the Titans. That doesn't mean I get to say "without question, the Titans would have beaten Jacksonville and made the playoffs if he didn't get hurt."

If the Raiders lose today, just know that "without question," with Derek Carr, they would have won the Super Bowl. It's a fact. - ReaderVol

This is what you stated. It's a hypothetical that you're trying to say is "without question." What's the difference?

Logical thought says a team with a significant higher number of key players out will lose more games.
Explain to us how that's not the case.

Now you straw man about the Raiders winning the Super Bowl was idiotic and not even close to being the same.

Logical thought says that when you're facing teams with a massive talent disadvantage like North Texas and Vandy, and you still have Dobbs and Barnett, missing Darrin Kirkland doesn't turn it into a loss. So I'm waiting for you to explain which games from our cake November schedule we "would have" lost.
