Secret Negas

Losing to Vandy and South Carolina already qualifies as "much worse" and the only way to actually be worse is to lose to even more bottom feeder teams.

Butch will go Butch. Every year.

I'm afraid this might be true, but we don't know it to be fact.

Funny how that's okay to say but how dare anyone say Butch might win 10 games next year.

Funnier that one is automatically a Butch hating negavol, and the other is a Butch worshipping sunshine pumper. Funny/annoying/stupid/entertaining........Internet message board.

Do you think these conversations would follow the same coarse if they took place in person?

No, because people would be too embarrassed to use the term "negavol" in a serious conversation

Logical thought says that when you're facing teams with a massive talent disadvantage like North Texas and Vandy, and you still have Dobbs and Barnett, missing Darrin Kirkland doesn't turn it into a loss. So I'm waiting for you to explain which games from our cake November schedule we "would have" lost.

You are a dense person. How many starters did we lose for a MAJORITY of the season this year? Had the same thing happened in previous years the seasons would've been worse.
If you can't understand that then so be it.

I think most want to see progress and without question we've seen progress. I know some will cry "sniff sniff we had the same record this year as last year". That's true and I will argue that finishing 9-4 with the tremendous amount of injuries is proof of improvement. That many injuries in previous years would've meant a much worse season.
The whiners refuse to admit progress. That's the real difference.

You know why there has been progress? It's because we've had the same team for three years. You're deluding yourself into believing that our improvement in record is due to some incredible process or coaching feat, when in reality, the players just got older and the schedule got easier. Both of those things are about to change over the next couple years.

We mostly beat a bunch of awful teams last year, aside from Georgia, which happened in early October. Which one would be a loss? What's our path to 7-5 or 6-6? Losing to North Texas? Mizzou? Still waiting...which crappy team would have beaten us "without question," Mr. Positive?

Both would. There would be less name-calling. I'd still say that Butch hasn't been a very good gameday coach

Is that where we disagree? If so, it would be a short conversation.

I don't think he's ever going to go 10-2 or better or win the conference, which is probably where we disagree. He always loses a game or two to inferior teams. I'd have no problem saying that in person either

It is fun to watch the extreme negas and theorize on who they are and their psychological framework.

I believe many are younger guys who did not experience the best days for UT football and not winning 11 games or the east in 2016 totally crushed their confidence. They feel a ceiling is in place and Jones will never have a squad with similar talent. Reality was the squad reporting for fall practice was decimated by injuries and had no serious chance to win 11 games. That preseason squad was never available to develop into the team anticipated. Many may have strongly supported the team, talked smack for years and it has gone unrewarded.

Older fans can remember win streaks against Bama and dramatic victories and believing the Vols can rise back up once Saban retires or even before is not a stretch. Having lived through the Johnny Majors rebuilding years, I know how hard it can be to have patience. Recognizing that Butch got the job after the program was destroyed just like Johnny, I think older fans know that constant firing of coaches more likely leads to disaster rather than staying with a solid coach and allowing him to develop squad depth and a winning program. Coming from last to first is not easy at any time. Jones took the program over when no other D-1 HC wanted the job and deserves a long tenure to rebuild. I would give him an extension after each 9 win season. I really like the younger fans who usually bounce back by the orange and white game and the flowers of spring brings new bounce to their step.

There is another category of non-sports playing fans who never played competitively in any team sport. They seem to have never seen an underdog play over its head, the worst games of star players, the fate of a fluke play changing momentum of a game, etc. For these fans - there is a preconceived script for each game and if Vols do not blow out what in their mind is an inferior opponent the game is a disaster. Reality here is that other SEC teams have quality players as well. On a given day, if the favorite team is playing 2nd or 3rd team players vs. healthy experienced starters for a team like Vandy - there is no real advantage. These fans to me are basically worthless and need to take up a musical instrument as a hobby or maybe troll porn sites for relaxation. Very funny to watch these fans consistently demonstrate ignorance of football or sport in general.

Other negas simply delight in dogging their coach. Fulmer was dogged for not showing passion, clapping to support players after a fumble or bad play. Butch is dogged for being too passionate - showing jubilation after the Hail Mary - etc. Some genuinely enjoy drama of a coaching change. Speculating about dream unattainable coaches who would crawl to Knoxville for the HC job. This may be an NFL coach - or any high profile "name" coach. Reality is that LSU, USC and others completely fail in attracting top tier coaches from outside and UT given recent coaching searches since Fulmer would likely fall far short of the hires negas dream about. This type nega still thinks they know far more than they do and if the dream coach does not show interest in the Vols, it is the fault of the AD or boosters who do not offer top money to the dream candidate. Of course who the current mr. dream is changes consistently and if he later flames out there is no recollection of coach envy in future years – there is a new dream to chase. Gruden is of course is the perfect perpetual dream being out of coaching for a decade. These negas are extremely fun to read to watch the coach envy and wild fluctuation of coaches hot seat proclamations and weekly cures for the program.

Other negas are trolls adding to the general whinefest and still others are just defeated overall in life – Majors called them Legions of the Miserable. Things have not gone their way since the 3rd grade and the first test scores came out and it became apparent the ceiling was extremely limited.

Anyway why not get off your collective damp diaper butts and support the Mighty Tennessee Vols who have a great opportunity to break out and dominate the SEC East very soon? It most definitely can happen.

Negavols are - too young and stupid to understand the history of Tennessee football, have never played a sport and therefore to stupid to understand what happens.

TENNESSEE Is about to dominate the east so get on board idiots, NEXT YEAR IS OUR YEAR, idiots.

You are welcome

How likely is the scenario that we dominate the SEC East very soon after Butch had loaded and experienced team and needed hail Mary to beat historically bad UGA which had freshman QB starting? UGA recruiting is crazy good right now (four five * recruits coming), so why do you think we will dominate them, especially now that we are going to be much younger again? If history teaches anything about Butch Jones it is that he is NOT an overachiever which means we are likely to be down for at least next couple of years (or much longer unless our recruiting picks up to levels of few years ago).

I am trying to draw out some Negas so I can do a snowy day pychoanalysis free of charge. You my friend are living in a land of Bama fans and have suffered immensely. You have the Auburn syndrome of being a stranger in a strange land. You are forgiven for being lukewarm on the Vols.

Going to be hard to dominate the east losing to Vandy 2 of 4 years. Someone posted CBJ record against UF, UGA, Vandy, West teams, Top 10 teams etc. Just no way around it, it's not good. So forecasting dominance other anything at this point is reaching at a min and absurd at the max.

How likely were the Cubs to win for the first time in a century. How likely was Trump to win the Republican nomination? You my friend are trapped in the recent past syndrome and have amnesia regarding the volume of work Jones did to purge the Vols of the Kiffin-Dooley back to back tragedies. The cure here is to watch the 1986 Sugar Bowl on youtube and a second team qb - Daryl Dickey leading the Vols to the win over mighty Miami. Guys you truly never know when a program can advance for a magical year. Seen it many times. Next.

Oh I don't suffer from anything, I am 100% a Vols fan. As I've said before just because what you are saying is positive doesn't mean it's true.
If you want to act like tennessee is about to start dominating something, fine run with it. But there is absolutely zero evidence or logic to back that up. I'm sorry it's considered negative to back that up.

I think that those of you that live in the land of the good guys don't fully comprehend the laughing stock that UT football is. Alabama fans don't even talk trash anymore, it's like us talking trash to Tennessee Tech.
So if starting another thread calling out fellow fans pointing out the shortcomings they have as the reason they think what they think makes you feel better, go ahead. It's nothing new, as we are now getting two or three threads a day with the same crap.

The Cubs were favorites to win. Anyone with a brain able to make up their own mind knew they Trump Clinton race was close.
And as for the 86 Sugar Bowl, CBJ record against better teams is awful.
Next.

Are you a secret nega? Here are ways to tell. Do you find nothing better to do than question the fanhood of fellow Vol fans simply because they have a different opinion? Do you confuse questioning a coach's ability to lead your team with actual support of the team? Do you find you have nothing better to do than regurgitate an argument made ad nauseam in multiple threads, all the while complaining about VN, while you are posting on VN. If these symptoms describe you, you may very well be a secret nega. That's right, you are secretly the very thing you rant and rave about and claim to hate. Welcome to the darkside.

Rants on a message board at 1:05 am mean you are either drunk, lonely, or both. Next time the urge strikes you just drink until you pass out.

I think You're missing the point(s). What my biggest "issue" with you, and a few other so called "negavols", stems from, is being so hell bent on being right that you can't be objective. In conversations/arguments, I have publicly agreed and admitted that some of what you and others have said was "fair". Not once have I received the same from you, or the others, Except Wylo.

As far as the "in person" conversation goes. I think if you read a bunch of posts vehemently supporting Butch, even some being close to ridiculous, in your opinion, then read ONE post by me that simply says "I think firing Butch right now would be stupid" (right after SC), then I am automatically settling for mediocrity, as well as being a Nancy Butch worshipping sheep. That wouldn't happen in a one on one conversation, here or in person.

I've said that stuff plenty of times. In another thread today I said repeating ad nauseam that Butch lost to Dooley is an unfair criticism, and I've commended Butch for going after the best coordinators possible. With you I think sometimes there's an air of superiority when you step into a thread and talk about how everyone is recycling arguments because they aren't as logical as you are, but I've said that before. I have no problem agreeing with you.

i don't remember calling people Nancy or sheep, so I can't speak for that, but I agree that conversations work much better without the constant "us vs. them" that happens on both sides.

My stupid posivol buddies call me a negavol in person all the time. In turn I let them know I think they're pumping Lyle in a most disgusting way.
