Hubbs this Morning

Could have sworn that we almost beat 2 or the 4 playoff teams last year with this offense? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm wrong about how many points we scored in 2014 when Dobbs came into the game in the 2nd quarter and we scored points. Had Bama not had that huge 1st quarter we could have won. They had trouble with out offense. It works and it's not even debatable.

Yeah, and we'd have beaten Vandy this year if they hadn't out scored us 21-3 in the 4th quarter.....all the plays/quarters count Smurf.

Dobbs came in in the 1st quarter, after 2 bad Peterman-led drives, with the score 13-0 Bama. From that point on, with Dobbs at qb, we were still out scored the rest of the game. Dobbs played very well when he came in and gave us a big spark. But we weren't winning that game with or without him. Defense couldn't stop a nosebleed that day.

This x1000.
For the ones constantly throwing the offensive numbers up to defend the system, I ask you to consider just how much those numbers were padded because of Dobbs being able to turn a completely busted play into gains of ten to 20+ yards and several times scores.

As great of a runner as Dobbs is, he was sacked 25 times this year

Just think of the times he escaped and made gains.

With everything on the line no way Butch hands the offense and his job to a QB with no game experience.

But what if the other option cannot make anything happen because the O-line is so bad?

QD might be the starter to begin the season, but I won't be surprised if he is benched in short order. And it won't be because it is his fault.

Could be a situation like Alabama had with Jalen Hurts at the start of this season. Name the other guy the "official" starter before the opener, but when it was clear that Hurts could make more things happen they just let him play.

Oh,you can count on it.
Jones will tell us all that "fit" is more important than a name. (Meaning someone willing to adopt his system no questions asked)
Then we will get the generic lecture about relationships and how we need someone who appreciates what a "special" place Tennessee is. Then he will address the faction of the fanbase who wanted a big name hire in a condescending manner. In a gentle rant filled with snide and sarcastic remarks, he will explain just how silly we are and know nothing of the process of winning.

Then he will introduce last season's water boy as the new OC.

Then prepare yourself for an entire off season of Butch apologists defending his decision and echoing his press conference here on VN.

Post of the year.

???????

It produced how many points against App. State? Ohio? And needed 5 turnovers against VT....It also has LOST to Vandy TWICE and a pathetic SCe team, too!

It failed to hold 2 TD leads against OK and Fla last year...

And that style of offense has NOT won a NC yet......

And the Bama comment is too ridiculous to mention....

I honestly hope Butch hires another system "homer" so someone will grow a spine after next year and get his over-matched azz out of Knoxville and send him back to the MAC where he belongs.

You are grabbing for air. Watch the 2014 and 2015 games. Then come back and tell me I'm ridiculous. You have to be dishonest to say that. Did you not see us leading them in the 4th quarter last year? But I'm ridiculous? Lol ok you seem to have in your own mind a different reality from historical facts. Every single offense bogs down from time to time just like every defense allows an offense to score from time to time. Our offense isn't perfect but it's far from the way you and others are trying to frame it.

Exactly

Without Dobbs' legs extending plays, this offense would look more like it did against SC.

Whole lot of truth. Below is a post from long ago. Did a bit of digging on these offenses.

Teams finishing in the AP Top 10 while running an offense similar to ours. Lots of Heisman type QBs. Very few that weren't. Speaks to your point. The system needs superman to win games against comparable talent at a decent clip. While having a monster at QB is always a plus, it is at a premium in this offense. Those guys don't exactly grow on trees.

2009:
Ohio State - Pryor
Florida - Tebow

2010:
Auburn - Cam
Oregon - Thomas
Ohio State - Pryor

2011:
Oregon - Thomas

2012:
Oregon - Mariota
AM - Manziel

2013:
Auburn - Marshall - Bad
Clemson - Boyd
Oregon - Mariota

2014:
Ohio State - Miller, Barrett, Jones
Oregon - Mariota
TCU - Boykin
Baylor - Petty - Beat up on poor teams

2015:
Clemson - Watson
Ohio State - Barrett
Oklahoma - Mayfield
TCU - Boykin
Houston - Ward
Ole Miss - Kelly

Seems all other SEC schools hire best available nationwide, Butch hires best available in-house. No wonder seem to have hit a plateau.

Realistically speaking, Helf would be an awesome hire but I would look for him to be gone in 2-3 years for another HC gig.

Once you've been a HC, it's hard to play 2nd position to someone else...

Look at Kiffin, he got tired of being Saban's lackey...even a small HC position at FAU is better than being a SEC assistant.

i agree, its my worry with most OC/DC coaches esp if they have had HC jobs before.....unless they are brady hoke and dont have aspirations to be a HC again....

Sounds more like Jones being Jones

Sounds a lot like you being you. Which is whine and cry about something you don't even know.
But the one thing you do know is how to disparage the team. And yes, coaches are part of the team whether you and your fellow whiners want to admit it or not. Just ask ANY player on the team.

Now imagine Dormady in those situations.
That will most likely be next season's offense at least through the first half of the season or until the kid gets killed.
Justin Worley is still healing up from his time in the Butchfense.

He's hard headed and stubborn.
Remember he only played Byrd when he was given no other choice after PW left.

That said I too think it'll play out close to the Worley/Dobbs season. QD most of the way JG comes in late in the season and lights teams up and the fans get out the forks and tourches

if Butch hires in house he will have sealed his own fate
recruits will not be lining up for more of the same
some one plug in the coaching carousel

I love this overreaction yet again from the Brain Trust of VN.

Scenario:
UT OC leaves. Jones says he's going to take his time and give some vague comments about what he's looking for. With absolutely NOTHING in stone or even close to being in stone.

Brain Trust Overreaction:

Well there's Jones being Jones.

Jones is gonna get himself fired.

Jones sucks and this proves it.

LOL at all of you.
y'all just like Hubbs and everyone else? Making assumptions and crying like a baby as if it was fact.
But one thing I will give y'all credit for... you never give up on your crying.
I remember the same scenario prior to Jones hiring Shoop.

You and your fellow pumpers just continue to be thrilled we finished above .500 and be happy that championships will never come under Jones

I'm sure Nate Peterman still has nightmares about his hand full of snaps.

He is extremely stubborn, but surely even Butch will try something else if he perceives (correctly) that his job is on the line. Swapping your older, less-mobile QB in favor of a young kid who was highly recruited, is more mobile, and the fans are clamoring for is a no-brainer in that situation.

Just lmfao is all. My ex would get mad at me for not getting mad. That's what this stuff reminds me of.

Barring some scandal, Jones will be the coach at UT in 2018. Everyone better get used to it.

i could be wrong sure, but i think everyone in the media had been saying he was gone take a job last year and he didnt so this year was it going to happen and saban was prepared for it without any hitches IMO.....

As much as it pains me to say this, saban runs a big boy program. He clearly has transition plans in place for replacement of positions on his staff. Jones on the other hand, I am not so sure. At least my perception of his executive mgmt skills is that they are minimal. I think Debord leaving like this may have caught him flatfooted.

Is that what you said when he hired Scott and Shoop initially last year? Uhhhhhh but but but... sniff sniff sniff

Reader I would really like to meet you.
I would love to see how closely my mental picture is to reality.

Can you ever debate without being condescending and nasty?

You know I don't usually Star gaze when it comes to recruiting but Butch may be starting to reveal more of his personality if he hires within. If he goes with Azz or Scott, I think it shows his conservative micromanagement and relying too much on hoping the coach/recruit/call turns out well.
