Dungy is the overrated one. Gruden was the only coach in forever to make the Raiders good, and in fact built the team that he then dominated in the Super Bowl. I bet some of you were the ones saying "Don't worry about Bama hiring Saban, he's overrated."

UT is happy with a 8-4, a decent bowl game, and no big scandals. They have never shown the slightest hint that they are willing to pony up and compete with Saban. His program is heads and shoulders above everyone else. They might care if we were the only SEC team that couldn't compete with him, but no one else can either.

Ya gotta' understand that while Alabama was hiring a national championship coach, Tennessee was busy firing theirs. It is what it is.

Sorry I don't agree, we need to drop the Bama game and meet them in the championship. It puts us at a disadvantage every year by playing them, even Steve Spurrier understood that, why you think Florida makes the championship. Even LSU is complaining that Bama has an advantage playing Tennessee every year. DROP THE GAME, BEAT THEM IN ATLANTA!

Actually they played multiple times and Saban beat ours like a rented mule

As much as I hate to say it - I agree. The other option would be to determine the division champs based on games within the division.

"Just" hire the coach with the proven ability to dethrone Alabama. When anyone sane points out that no coach has that resume', insult other Vols by claiming they "don't want to win".

Oh,I forgot, Gruden is basically a guarantee. He will leave his current job and come here because... some fans post "This is Tennessee". No entitlement issues there.
Of course if he would come, apparently his success is also guaranteed. Afterall, his 1 championship in a different league, also guarantees college success. Heck, ask Spurrier and Saban, it always translates from one league to the other.
Maybe a proven champion like Chizick? Because no way 1 championship could be the result of talent instead of coaching right guys?
I truly have nothing against Gruden and if he ever was to come here, I would give him support. But just like with Shoop, as soon as the 'splash hire' saber rattlers realize that he is a man and not a god, they will turn on him also. Those who don't, will once again be accused of wanting mediocrity.

Every single agent who represents every coach out there sends out feelers after every season. Most of the time you never hear about them and most of the time the sole purpose of doing so is to get your client a raise/extension.

Something tells me since UT is an academic school the administration is more focused on the everyday on running the school, the student body and their teachers, and football is just secondary. Can't say I disagree.

Nope I'm 42 and it's still Bama. As long as they count overall conference record then it's just as important as the Florida game. The idea of ducking Bama is a defeatist attitude. Also makes me sick.

Yes and we need a coach that can take blue chip players and make them into 1st round draft choices. That's what future recruits want to see happening before they commit.

Young fella wants to erase history. He probably doesn't realize Florida was trash before Spurrier got there. Oh well. Unless they start taking division records the game with them counts just the same as the Gators.
