I'll say this, Shoop leaving is a red flag for him unless he gets a HC gig. Another lateral move will delay any dreams of being a HC. Three schools in three years voluntarily is not a good look. jmo

No it won't. This isn't your everyday job hiring process. If someone feels he is good enough, they will hire him regardless.

Not that it was a huge sticking point for me, but the right play is to delay an all or nothing play as long as possible. Basically any coach kicks the field goal there to stay alive longer. You don't make a decision that loses the game if it fails until you absolutely have to.

Turning point in the game was the Dobbs fumble to end the third. If he doesn't fumble there, perhaps we score on the drive and vandy does not get the momentum and the lead.

I understand the thought process of trying to get the TD first so on the 2nd drive you're not forced to score and can kick a FG, or if you miss the 2-pt conversion you still have the chance to win with a TD. Coaches all across the country make worse decisions every Saturday(and Sunday) so it doesn't bug me too much.

The worse part of it is the TO beforehand. If you know you're gonna go for it then you have 2 play calls ready so you can try to get the D off guard. Calling the TO beforehand lets the D get settled and gives them a better play call, and robs you of a TO if you do end up getting it.

Calling the TO to call the play is what makes it such a Bush league decision IMO

The clock was running and with the game on the line you couldn't rush that play. The TO was absolutely neccesaary.

She is an academic visionary who wants to make UT more prestigious, diverse and forward-thinking. Her primary driver is research. She thinks UT should be a leading research university, aligned with ORNL to explore and advance emerging areas of science and technology. That would require world-class facilities and faculty-- and a lot of financial support.

She wants to reevaluate how UT funds, budgets and supports programs to ensure that the university is best positioned to capitalize on its academic and leadership potential. She's a change agent-- a forceful one-- and perhaps that's what UT needs. It will be interesting.

If true, this concerns me. My understanding was that Cheek was very similar, and I thought we wanted to go away from some of that. I am all for research and prestige. But at the end of the day, the University of Tennessee is Tennessee's flagship school to educate its residents. Sure, we need diversity, but we also need all of the bright and creative Tennesseans to stay home. That's why it was founded. Also, academia is not the real world, and we need to produce great professionals. I am afraid we are going away from this.

Down 11 with about 1:40 left and you are in the redzone, it's 4th and 3. You know you need two scores. Butch elected to call timeout, go for the first down and the score.

On the radio today (and I'm sure it's been on the board as well) fans are going off about that being a mismanagement of the game.

To me, it's not. If you feel like you can score quickly there, then you go for it and you go for 2. You've still got to recover the onside kick and get another score. But now you know whether you need a fg to tie or a td to win.

Someone tell me where I'm wrong.

Here's the problem. It wasn't 4th and goal.
It was 4th and 3. Outside of the 10. So Even if you got the 1st , how many plays would you have to waste to score that TD? How many timeouts would you have to waste?

THe most egregious error was actually wasting time before calling the timeout.

I actually went I depth about it the night of the game in this thread

Is Butch legitimately looking to get out?

"I think his agent is looking at all his options as they do every year. Is this year a little different? I think so Coming off a disappointing finish as well as not knowing who his boss is going to be changes things a bit this offseason.

Now does anyone want him or take a real look at him. I'm not sure about that."

Me thinks butch is so stubborn it doesn't matter what coaches we have. If he doesn't let other coaches do their job, he's not going to get anywhere. Imo JMO
