that's because Butch Jones teaches to run the exact play NO MATTER WHAT and if you notice they only let Dobbs improvise when they are down by 2 or more scores

He is not talking about checking out of a play. He is talking about the QB reads and his first options and checkdowns. There have definitely been some times when Dobbs has checked down either to the wrong guy or too quickly.

Exactly Bruin. If the goal was to make it a closer game then you kick the FG. If the goal is to win you try to score the TD while you're already down in the red zone.

That's such a crap oversimplification. Kicking a FG in an 11 point game is simply not "trying to make it closer."

I was 50/50 on this before thinking about it but now I am convinced in an 11pt game you have to go for it. If it was 10 you kick the field goal.

100% go for it because that is the only path to potentially winning the game in regulation with the same chances of losing.

Kiff with Strong at DC? Dat dream staff 2.0.

said it yesterday.... everyone will get over the Kiff buzz by the orange and white game, and he and Strong can recruit. Period. Many may not like Kiffin, but his resume showing offensive recruits he can put it together.
Strong is a very likable guy who can coach and recruit. Kiffin is making assistant money and Strong won't have a buyout. DO IT.

It was about time management. You kick the FG early to save time and TOs. Had 3. Need onside kick and 2 point conversion so it was a long shot.

Kick the FG still have a chance.

I know y'all disagree but I would venture to bet the vast majority of coaches kick that ball and it's not close.

Nothing wrong with winning in overtime. Jones obviously didn't think so when he sheepishly kicked the XP instead of going for 2 at the 1 against TAMU.

The clock was moving. Kicking a FG was going to take 30sec or so. The TO was a must either way

You said it better than anyone has yet.

The TD and the two point conversion is the more difficult task. You're already down there. Go for it. If you miss the two point conversion you know you need 6 and not 3 at that point.

I don't know what other coaches would do but Butch made the right call.

yall are getting too hung up on the FG vs td. if you get a td and the onside kick then you have a chance at the WIN and not play for the tie, which is the agressive nature you rednecks have been b#$%$ing about all year.

To the people complaining about it, sit your fat ass back on your couch and shut up.

What is her history?

She is an academic visionary who wants to make UT more prestigious, diverse and forward-thinking. Her primary driver is research. She thinks UT should be a leading research university, aligned with ORNL to explore and advance emerging areas of science and technology. That would require world-class facilities and faculty-- and a lot of financial support.

She wants to reevaluate how UT funds, budgets and supports programs to ensure that the university is best positioned to capitalize on its academic and leadership potential. She's a change agent-- a forceful one-- and perhaps that's what UT needs. It will be interesting.

No but when one choice yields the best case being OT with the exact same chance of losing as one that also allows a chance to win. You take the other option. It really is easy now after thinkin about both plays being 3 yards to convert

Lol.

Very true

In Ziti/Bruin world. Like volatil said, most actual coaches go the other way. But it seems like your always happy to go down with the ship.

Besides 4th and 3 from the 12 is much easier to get than a 2py conversation so actually the chances of losing go up kicking the FG.

Had we kicked a FG and Medley missed it everyone would be wonder why Butch didn't go for it knowing Medley missed one earlier in the game

I still want Jones fired and have since SC but I agree with this. Thought it was the right call. The play called had 4 receivers past the marker, Dobbs made a decision to check down to a guy behind the markers who had been playing lights out all night. Vandy made the play. That play call didn't cost us the game, it was just the moment when everybody knew we were going to lose.

Putting the game on Medley has cost us like 3 of our last six losses and I can't remember him drilling a game winner. His ability to kick in the clutch is somewhere between Freshman-Palardy and Alabama-Lincoln. It's not good.

So do we need 6 or 3?

Don't know because the game ended with 1:30 on the clock and 2 TOs
