This is definitely a catch 22 for the athletic administration. We have seen improvement till now but is this as far as it goes? We have a lot of people with experience coming back next year. It could be a great year if our key people stay healthy and JG shows out like Hurts. But could it just be another 8-9 win year and another waste

I don't know all the details about why we suck but I know we suck. His defense looks lost. Injuries meant we weren't going to field a great defense but it should have been better. It was awful.

Not sure if we need assistant changes or coordinator change or both.

It's about probability though. The probability of making the field goal at that point is greater than the probability of picking up a 4th and 3 IMO.

It's not that simple of math.
You have to take into account the probability of scoring 8pts after the FG.

You always wants to try to get the TD first and with it only being 3 yards the odds where probably with going for it. Had it been a 10pt game it would have been very different

We don't need a third DC in 3 years

Give me a new secondary coach and maybe get rid of Thig as well but I give him a slight pass. Two best players getting hurt and Shoop making the terrible decision to shuffle in shifts of LBs.

Why do you want to get the TD first? 11 points is 11 points. When you're in 4th down, you take whatever is statistically more probable. If you go by NFL statistics, (which I only looked up because its easier), there is at worst a 67% chance of making the fg whereas the 4th down conversion rate is right around 50%.

We need a complete new coaching staff but at a minimum need a new DC.

that's because Butch Jones teaches to run the exact play NO MATTER WHAT and if you notice they only let Dobbs improvise when they are down by 2 or more scores

with the doubts around the support from the chancellor and no ad, damn sure hope butch sticks atleast a year. best for program and butch can fix that falling stock issue he has by winning some games hopefully.

If anything, that's an additional reason to go for it, if your coaching does not involve situational awareness.

You want the TD first in case you don't get the 2pt conversation. Then you know a FG was useless

Had we kicked a FG and Medley missed it everyone would be wonder why Butch didn't go for it knowing Medley missed one earlier in the game

Yes but in reality if you kick the FG your best case is making a 2pt conversation at the end of the game.

In this case we"went for two" ealier to make sure we knew what we had to do later. The more I think about the more I think going for it was 100% the thing to. You had to get a 3 yard do or die play in either case so why not do it first when it gave more clarity of what needed to happen after.
