Blackburn would be a slam dunk hire with all of his ties. He could do huge things for all of our athletic programs. This news is a real bummer! It seems we just can't get everything lined up at the same time on Rocky Top.

That was my point. He wouldn't last today, even though Tennessee was better off for having been patient with him in the long term. And my point was also that there have been some very recent examples in the SEC of coaches who have had wild first or second year success, only to quickly flame out.

Big picture: four years ain't quite enough, particularly when you're making bowl games, hanging around the top 25 and are in national conversation again. 6 or 7 (or a complete collapse losing season) and I'm with you.

I gotcha. I am not in the anti-Butch contingent, just to clarify. I think that you likely know that. I am disappointed that we did not win the East. My disappointment will be somewhat assuaged if we beat Vanderbilt and play well in whatever bowl game we get to.

Agreed. 10 wins as a floor is pretty extreme.

I think we're at the point where we need an extreme floor. IF recruiting finishes the way we all hope it will, then I might be willing to cut some slack in order to allow for development of whatever's in the pipeline.

I predict we field a deeper and more complete team next year and while we may lack the playmaking of Dobbs, Kamara and Barnett, we field an overall better offense and overall better defense.

Butch Jones didn't build this thing for a one year window. 2016 was just the start of our return to national relevance.

I've long maintained that the 2016 roster was lacking in two areas that would keep us from meeting fan expectations... Offensive line and defensive tackle. We should be better at both of those positions next year without question. And that's where it starts on O and on D.

Who knows? If JG is a special player, we could have a magical year in 2017.

I have several questions about CBJ as a coach but he's earned my respect and a little patience as he's continued to improve over his tenure IMO. Really hoping he wins out and we can get back some of our momentum and silence the grumbling from impatient fans who think 2016 was a one time shot at being good at football.

Agreed. At one time, he was the guy. Now everybody's second guessing and taking sides. Counterproductive, because we need an AD ASAP. Charlie Anderson usually gets what he wants... especially with the Neyland renovations in play.
