I think 9-3 is unlikely next year, and if we get to 8-4, everyone should be happy.

Next year is going to have a noticeable downturn.

I'm not so sure. Next year the schedule does have LSU and Bama...go figure we will probably have the two best teams in the west again but the big games are spread out nicely with some patsies sprinkled in

Five years. Either he'll win the division and go out on a high note or leave out of frustration for a less demanding, lower-profile job.

He's not going anywhere this year. Just wants a raise and an extension.

With the money involved in college football now, 4 years is most certainly enough to pull the trigger. I would imagine that even today though, someone like Johnny Majors or...Peyton Manning would be given more time, simply because they are Tennessee legends.

This is just a general statement. Again, nothing to do specifically with Butch Jones.

This is the "money" delusion. Not all problems are solved by throwing money at them, especially where human nature is a factor. It does not work socially, it does not work personally, and it does not work in sports.

These refs need to swallow their whistles. It's been pretty bad both ways.

Vols down 2 with 2 minutes to play.

I predict we field a deeper and more complete team next year and while we may lack the playmaking of Dobbs, Kamara and Barnett, we field an overall better offense and overall better defense.

Butch Jones didn't build this thing for a one year window. 2016 was just the start of our return to national relevance.

I've long maintained that the 2016 roster was lacking in two areas that would keep us from meeting fan expectations... Offensive line and defensive tackle. We should be better at both of those positions next year without question. And that's where it starts on O and on D.

Who knows? If JG is a special player, we could have a magical year in 2017.

I have several questions about CBJ as a coach but he's earned my respect and a little patience as he's continued to improve over his tenure IMO. Really hoping he wins out and we can get back some of our momentum and silence the grumbling from impatient fans who think 2016 was a one time shot at being good at football.

Check you guys after Saturday. GBO.

It has nothing to do with throwing money at the problem- again with the reading comprehension. There is nothing to say that you have to find a more expensive alternative. The money at stake means you have to act with more urgency to find the right coach to head your program.

We've seen 49 games. A couple more aren't necessary to have an opinion.

Beating the dregs of the schedule isn't going to change anything for many.

He beat both our two biggest SEC East opponents this year. I'm almost more upset about the A&M loss than the USCe loss. Dregs of our schedule?

A lot of wishful thinking in there. Don't see how this defense takes anything but a giant step back without Barnett.

JG may not even be the QB until after a couple of losses.

Logic just does not support higher expectations for next year.

Please explain why expectations would drop? You're insinuating that they should.
