I think most rational posters would have been pleased at the start of the year with 9-3 and a major bow game.

I think a lot of the issues is the meltdown on defense. The fact that va tech went up and down the field and we needed 5 fumbles. Also we beat Uga and fla but we were down huge at Florida and then needed a Hail Mary to beat uga

It's not as simple as 9-3. This could easily have been. 7 win year and that is concerning

We beat App St in overtime..

Struggled against Ohio

Yes, and we could have easily been 11-1 last year. But no one wants to hear that. I don't get caught up with what it could have been. In 3 years, no one will remember how it happened.

This deal with ND seems heavy handed by the NCAA. Almost seems to me like they are giving ND the ammo to be able to fire him with cause and save them millions in the buyout.

Vacating wins for 2 players cheating? Meanwhile UNC ran a fake university for almost 2 decades.

The UNC debacle is just crazy to think about when it's brought up

Strong at Louisville kinda beats whatever Butch has done. Texas was garbage when he took over.

LOL. Butch has a 2-1 record against Strong. The loss was by 3 in OT

And Tennessee was in worse shape than Texas and Butch has easily out coached him. Strong has tons of talent and can't do anything in the B12! At least butch is about to have a 10 win season 😂😂😂

Last year could have been an 11 win season just as easily.

Like Nick said, the same people who don't want to claim moral victories in close losses are the same people who claim moral losses in close victories.

I guess you forgot that Tennessee was garbage when Butch took over. Butch now has us in a bowl game 3 straight years and should hit two years with 9 wins. He surpassed Strong with his rebuild, in a tougher conference.

Just don't understand why people continue to make these kind of comments.

All Butch has to do is make two home run hires at OC/QB and S&C and all is good.

Why can the Saban Tree hire all these veteran NFL or College coaches as "consultants" but everyone else doesn't seem to be able to. I mean I would have thought for instance Butch bringing in his buddy Canales would have made sense as a so called consultant of video lol. Canales has good history of helping increase passing game numbers. So odd to See Saban do it and now Kirby

this goes both ways. We turned the ball over 7 times against A&M, and still pushed them to Double OT on the road. Then played our worst game of the Butch era on the road against South Carolina and still had a field goal attempt to tie it at the end of regulation.

Closer to 11-1 than we are to 7-5 imo.

Dobbs came to Butch's rescue during the players presser today. Maybe he will retire at age 40 after being the first man to walk on Mars and then come coach the Vols.

Sorry. I sent that before I meant to. My point was going to be that the way in which we have gotten to 9-3 matters to a lot of people. And it keeps them from seeing this as something that is sustainable or is on an upward trajectory

They see the app state game. The huge lead Florida had. The Hail Mary. The bama blowout. The 24-3 point at a&in. Giving up 2 games worth of yards to a 3 win Missouri team. Arky last year. Fla and ok meltdown last year.

They add all that up and can't see that CBJ has us on the rise

They think he's a 7-8 win SEC coach that got lucky this year and is being bolstered by a down east

The more the merrier! I have a feeling these freshmen will be pretty good in a year or two with all this experience they are getting

Fans don't want to hear that though. I have already seen negative comments about our basketball program this year. We need them to continue to develop, but I believe Barnes decided to build a program. We have some great young talent. Just need to add a couple of bigs.

I agree. We have Alexander who's promising and Williams who I like a lot, but we need depth. Fulk also shows signs of potential

Unless you have your head in the sand, the program was in a different place last year than it will be at the end of this year. That's not unique to UT. It's fair to evaluate where you are at the end of each year.

I don't understand your point, but I don't really care. A win is a win. I don't think AD's will consider firing a coach because he didn't beat App State or Ohio by more.
