Strong at Louisville kinda beats whatever Butch has done. Texas was garbage when he took over.
Texas' players are all really united under Strong.
Still lost to Kansas.
Not saying we'll lose to Vandy or anything. But a team being together isn't necessarily indicative of a good coach. Teams should be together regardless.
This. I'd rather him take the Bill Belichick route than saying shat that NO ONE believes, like "champions of life."
I get fan's reactions at that, it reeked of excuses making and b.s.
He lost against Kansas in year 3. That's a Dooley-versus-Kentucky type loss. Arguably even worse. Texas shouldn't even need a coach to beat that team.
For the record, I don't think Strong is a horrible coach. Put him at a 'decent' football school and I think he does a very good job. But if I'm a top program, I don't even glance at him as a HC.
Here's the thing. We have evidence of player improvement especially this year in the down field passing game with Malone stepping up and JJ showing out. I think that pic six will do JK a world of good. The college game is what it is. It's great watching players come into their own. I will be watching those two.
No, he's actually correct. UL is at a higher level than UC football wise. Charlie helped restore it to Petrino levels and beyond. He was 11-2 with a Sugar Bowl win over UF. The next year he was 12-1. Butch has not yet achieve that level.
He wanted to try the elite stage. Texas was decimated roster wise, which is why Brown was let go. It was a bad fit. His recruiting, especially in Florida, took a hit; while aTm's was taking off due to Sumlin.
He would make a really good hire for a school in the south where he can crank up his recruiting sources again. I bet he's learned a few things, like Muschamp, and knows how he would adjust his system.
In fairness, I never thought playcalling was an issue against Florida, Georgia, and A&M even when we got down early. I thought Debord was calling a good game in each case, but we were letting ourselves down with drops and turnovers - execution errors. We got back in the games when we played better... there was no great shift in tactics or aggression.
Not going to defend some of the other games, though. Bama, SCar, App State, even VT to an extent. We absolutely came out tentative in those games.
So in big games why do we wait until we are down to start making aggressive playcalls? Why do we not blow small teams out instead of letting them stay in the game to potentially upset us?
I have concerns about this game, but haven't formed my conclusion yet. I've got to look over some stuff, and I'll have it in my thread.
Ask Florida how Strong did them at Louisville. Butch got outcoached by Dooley of all people when he was at Cincy.
