Strong at Louisville kinda beats whatever Butch has done. Texas was garbage when he took over.

It was a terrible fit. I said it at the time that it was a dumb hire on both sides. His mistake was turning down TN job. I guareentee you he regrets that decision. Strong would have killed it here. He would have got Ramsey and Bell in that first class because of his background and connections. TN would be on absolute lock down instead of watching Stevens and Higgins, phillips go elsewhere.

Whoever gets him next is getting a steal as long as they are in southeast. If Jimbo goes to LSU the FSU first phone call should be to strong

Texas' players are all really united under Strong.

Still lost to Kansas.

Not saying we'll lose to Vandy or anything. But a team being together isn't necessarily indicative of a good coach. Teams should be together regardless.

Pretty obvious that ours apparently wasn't through all the Hurd drama. Hopefully it is now, since he quit.

This. I'd rather him take the Bill Belichick route than saying shat that NO ONE believes, like "champions of life."

I get fan's reactions at that, it reeked of excuses making and b.s.

It does reek of BS, and I understand why it upset people. But we have to look at it in its full context. He said that when asked about the accomplishments of the seniors. These are people who have poured their blood, sweat, and tears, EVERYTHING THEY HAVE, into our beloved Volunteers. Jones was saying how proud he was of them as how proud they should be of themselves, and he's right to do so.

Maybe it should have been phrased better or more diplomatically and less like a Tony Robbins seminar, but that it's invited such mockery from a bunch of people who couldn't accomplish even close to what these players have is really rich (I'm not talking about anyone on here).

He lost against Kansas in year 3. That's a Dooley-versus-Kentucky type loss. Arguably even worse. Texas shouldn't even need a coach to beat that team.

For the record, I don't think Strong is a horrible coach. Put him at a 'decent' football school and I think he does a very good job. But if I'm a top program, I don't even glance at him as a HC.

Butch lost to Dooley though. 😂😂😂😂

Here's the thing. We have evidence of player improvement especially this year in the down field passing game with Malone stepping up and JJ showing out. I think that pic six will do JK a world of good. The college game is what it is. It's great watching players come into their own. I will be watching those two.

I truly hope that you are right about both of them. JK could be an absolute beast if he will buy in and develops. I have no thoughts on AJ, since we have not yet seen him in a game. Hopefully, he starts strong this Spring and becomes a contributor next fall.

I wonder if TX OC could come here. We want a QB coach/ Co coord to call plays. He seems like a great fit for our personell but doubt Butch would be willing to tweak system much and that guy is a tX guy that may want to stay there

No, he's actually correct. UL is at a higher level than UC football wise. Charlie helped restore it to Petrino levels and beyond. He was 11-2 with a Sugar Bowl win over UF. The next year he was 12-1. Butch has not yet achieve that level.

He wanted to try the elite stage. Texas was decimated roster wise, which is why Brown was let go. It was a bad fit. His recruiting, especially in Florida, took a hit; while aTm's was taking off due to Sumlin.

He would make a really good hire for a school in the south where he can crank up his recruiting sources again. I bet he's learned a few things, like Muschamp, and knows how he would adjust his system.

Obviously I was talking about big boy football.

In fairness, I never thought playcalling was an issue against Florida, Georgia, and A&M even when we got down early. I thought Debord was calling a good game in each case, but we were letting ourselves down with drops and turnovers - execution errors. We got back in the games when we played better... there was no great shift in tactics or aggression.

Not going to defend some of the other games, though. Bama, SCar, App State, even VT to an extent. We absolutely came out tentative in those games.

Inconsistency I'm talking about in particular.

COMMERCIAL BREAK....

Barnett has 2.5 more sacks than the Bednarik Finalists, 1 more tackle for loss and as many turnovers as the other three COMBINED.

NOW, BACK TO YOUR RIDICULOUS MELTDOWN OVER A POSSIBLE DOUBLE-DIGIT-WIN SEASON

So in big games why do we wait until we are down to start making aggressive playcalls? Why do we not blow small teams out instead of letting them stay in the game to potentially upset us?

I think the issues were mainly the beginning of the season. If you notice since Hurds departure the offense has looked completely different. I think they spent too much time early in the season trying to make our system work for Hurd which was just a lost cause. Debord has done a pretty good job since Hurd left. I know the teams have been softer, but hanging 50+ is good regardless of opponent.

Now, I do hold Butch responsible for catering to Hurd when he should have been putting the team first. That's on him and I think he knows it.

I have concerns about this game, but haven't formed my conclusion yet. I've got to look over some stuff, and I'll have it in my thread.

It feels like a really bad matchup for us. They've got a good enough defense to slow us way down. Conversely our defense can not stop anybody. If Hyde Dobbs shows up...we are going to lose..if he keeps rolling we win a mid 30s shootout.

Ask Florida how Strong did them at Louisville. Butch got outcoached by Dooley of all people when he was at Cincy.

You're really struggling today.

Butch lost to Dooley who had twice as much talent.

Strong just lost to a 1-9 Kansas team with the far superior team.

That comparison makes 0 sense and I think you know it
