I'm not gnashing teeth. I think he's done a good job building the roster from the brutal shape that Dooley left it in. I've said that multiple times.

I just think he's that guy that puts the roster & program in a good spot for the next guy that can put us over the top. We're a top 10 program of all time for crying out loud..8-9 wins shouldn't be acceptable.

And that's why I waited until year 4 to make judgement. Judging him up until this point wouldn't have been fair.

Good luck with that next hire.

Honestly, he may leave if he's as upset and pressured as much as you say he is. But he absolutely will not go to a bigger program.

Rob Lewis said he thinks Butch would be open to making a lateral move.

I could see him being interested/receiving interest from Arizona and Arizona State. Both coaches are on the hot seat and they aren't "too good" to look at someone like Butch.

UCLA and Cal could be options, too. Mora has supposedly had one foot out the door for two years. Dykes probably has more time in Berkeley, though, but I'm sure Butch would love to reunite with Zo and commiserate over how much they hate the Tennessee fanbase and media, lol.

I am settled...just tired of seeing our coach crucified, after everything he's given to bring our program back. If we still weren't making bowl games in year 4, I could understand, but we have improved our win total every year and have the chance to do that yet again this year, will make our 3rd straight bowl game, and have a chance to go to the Sugar Bowl. And all of this in the face of a gazillion injuries. Once again, the most ungrateful fanbase in the country.

I'll be interested to see how settled y'all are, if he decides to leave us for another job.

If he bolts, I'll be upset.

Mostly because of the timing and the fact that we'll be left with a lame duck AD to find a new coach though.

As far as Butch goes, I'm happy he came here and thankful for what he's done. I think he deserves another year or two to show he can reach the next level and get to Atlanta, without a doubt. Those calling for him to be fired are talking out of their behinds.

AND I think we've seen about what he's capable of this season. He'll win the games he's supposed to and maybe drop an unexpected one along the way. He's our Bo Pellini.

But honestly, I wouldn't be too upset about keeping around a coach who will win us 8-10 games a season for quite a while either.

We have the most ungrateful fanbase in all of college football. 4 short years ago we couldn't make a bowl game, and now with a win Saturday, we have a very good chance to go to the Sugar Bowl. Yet, our fanbase whines, because our coach makes a comment that has been taken completely out of context, that shows he is happy that his players are prepared to deal with life after football.

And y'all wonder why we can never have anything nice at TN. Grow up! It's sickening.

Mark this down...if we win Saturday and our bowl game, Butch will get offered another prestigious coaching job at somewhere like Notre Dame, Texas, or such, and he will take it. Honestly, I hope he does...Tennessee doesn't deserve him.

Edit: Our fan base is the furthest reason from us not having anything nice

I agree! I like Coach Jones! Heck, I was one of the last Dooley supporters. However, he has opened himself up to criticism without question. You thinking The Tennessee Media is like a New York Media and that the entire TENN fan base posts on VN is a misconception. Butch is well compensated.

Hmmm. To me, Butch hasn't looked or sounded all that comfortable here since day one. Going from Cincinnati to a rabid win craving Tennessee fan base is tough. But that's still interesting to hear.

Wonder how a new Chancellor and AD will change things

Who cares!! Most of the times he delivers all the coach speak so that other coaches don't have anything to use against him as negative recruiting material. The poor media doesn't get the juicy stuff that they want...who cares!! We already know way too much that goes on behind the scenes.

When Butch leaves and we struggle to find an upgrade to replace him, I don't want to read one whiney comment from all of you who have been crucifying him today for comments taken completely out of context.

I have defended him greatly today if you are directing that toward me.

Zo and Butch are good for each other. They both under perform.

Some of yous is crazy. 10-3 in the Sugar Bowl is a significant season. Back in the day when folks looked at the Orange, Sugar, Cotton and Rose as the big four an appearance in one of those whether for No. 1 or not was totally significant.

Only 4 teams compete in the playoff. There are still plenty of accolades to be had in the non-playoff bowls. The Sugar bowl is absolutely storied, and with the Vols playing things would be rocking. That is all.

I actually agree about Debord. He's had his moments where he was absolutely terrible but we've averaged like 56 PPG over the last 3. Put 38 on Florida, like 700 yards of offense on aTm.

He's inconsistent, that's the problem. If he would be as aggressive in every game as he has been in the last 3, he would be fine

Against the a FCS, #82, and #116 in Total Defense opponents.

10 against Bama. 14 on O against USCe. Having to recover a fumble in the end zone to beat Appy in OT while scoring only 20. Same type stuff the year before only scoring was in the first half then versus second half now. #52 in total offense even after the last 3 games.

Watching this Monday night game and someone in the stands is pointing a green laser.

Hasn't been noticed by the refs or announcers.

Come on man.

And if he leaves, everyone will be whining like a little baby, if we can't make a big hire.

We won't make a "big" hire. One because we really don't open up the checkbook and two this is not a great coaching destination. Recruiting is harder than ever as no potential local recruits have a longing to play for the hometown team. Tenn HS football has improved immensely, but it is still a work in progress. The reason it has gotten so much better is due to all the transplants that moved and settled locally, yet no affiliation. Michigan was super lucky that Harbaugh was an alumni. They also stopped being cheap.

You're not wrong.

The bs from today is completely overblown but not surprising by this media and fanbase. I think the media takes any shot they can bc Butch is such a robot to them. They get tired of it but fk em.

This is the worst thread I have seen since Kiffin left. You complainers don't seem to understand the impact of having more than 20 players injured this year. The team we started the year with could compete with anyone in the country.

10-3 and bowl win is successful season.

Not the season I wished the Seniors had that have worked so hard over the years..but it's a successful season for sure.

For real? Dooley is still being roasted for Where's Rommel... the orange dog... growing bamboo... opportunity is nowhere. Harbaugh has been mocked mercilessly for his satellite camps... his sleepover... his khakis... now his glasses. People make fun of Freeze's and McElwain's appearance, calling them "Beaver Teeth, "Butter Teeth" and "Swamp Donkey." CBJ hasn't been singled out and bullied. It's what the media, Twitterverse and message boards do in the age of the Internet.

It's no different at ND or Texas. Those are big boy programs, too. Their coaches get their fair share of criticism and ridicule.

Butch coached in the much less meaningful American Conference. He knew what he was getting into by joining a major SEC team. You have a certain amount of time to live up to expectations. If you don't, you will be replaced. It's that simple.

In the SEC, and especially at a storied program, you either meet expectations or you show improvement. In case you haven't noticed, he's still showing improvement. And with the possibility of getting to a New Year's 6 Bowl Game, it would be asinine to even contemplate replacing him at this point.

BabyVol made an interesting comment about him making a move, possibly lateral. That would just be embarrassing to lose a coach now. It would imply that Tennessee isn't a destination job.

People should be careful what they wish for. Jones has built this team up, and as long as he is making strides, he should have our support. We don't have to like everything he does or says. But he's coaching our team.

We didn't play well at all even fully healthy. Went to OT with App State and were very lucky to win.
