We have the most ungrateful fanbase in all of college football. 4 short years ago we couldn't make a bowl game, and now with a win Saturday, we have a very good chance to go to the Sugar Bowl. Yet, our fanbase whines, because our coach makes a comment that has been taken completely out of context, that shows he is happy that his players are prepared to deal with life after football.

And y'all wonder why we can never have anything nice at TN. Grow up! It's sickening.

Mark this down...if we win Saturday and our bowl game, Butch will get offered another prestigious coaching job at somewhere like Notre Dame, Texas, or such, and he will take it. Honestly, I hope he does...Tennessee doesn't deserve him.

Today was an embarrassing day for the media that was spreading that out of context BS. Butch should be pissed but let's be honest his black book comments even the score somewhat

I would say dropped substantially is a stretch. I also think it's overblown that top 10 classes every year is a hard and fast requirement to be good. The difference between a class sitting in the 12-15 range and a top 10 class is smaller than people think.

Granted I've seen enough that i might downgrade my faith in Butch to slightly skeptical, but I think it's overblown to say there's no hope

Agreed it's overblown on the no hope thought process, but top 10 does mean quite a bit in recruiting considering the SEC typically holds 6 spots in that top 10 and well, we have seen the success in the last decade the SEC has had.

Top 5 classes consistently in order to win the East and make it to the playoff/

How else can a team compete with Bama physically? Speed might could beat them but the team core must be solid. Perhaps this is CBJ's design.

I said 10-2 and not winning the East would be disappointing. But the gnashing of teeth is ridiculous. He will make changes. He is the victim of his own success because he built the roster that should have won.

I'm not gnashing teeth. I think he's done a good job building the roster from the brutal shape that Dooley left it in. I've said that multiple times.

I just think he's that guy that puts the roster & program in a good spot for the next guy that can put us over the top. We're a top 10 program of all time for crying out loud..8-9 wins shouldn't be acceptable.

And that's why I waited until year 4 to make judgement. Judging him up until this point wouldn't have been fair.

Here's a question I have and would like to know if anyone has a legitimate answer: How is Butch viewed within the coaching industry? Gruden has bragged about him. I remember Mike Tomlin saying he'd want his sons to play for him. The coaching world is a fraternity. Butch could get another job offer if a prime candidate turns the job down, but recommends him.

I take anything other coaches say about each other publicly with a massive grain of salt.

Saban & all kinds of guys praised the Dooley hire. Tom Brady & others praised the DeBord hire.

You sure Tomlin didn't say that about LaneK?

I'm with you. There are many things I love about Tennessee football but our fanbase isn't one of them. Lots of good folks but on a whole we are a miserable bunch. No sense of loyalty to the team and program. Just a bunch of spoiled children that demand championships or coaches heads and nothing in between.

I guess that one consensus national title in the last sixty five years really spoiled us.

Butch coached in the much less meaningful American Conference. He knew what he was getting into by joining a major SEC team. You have a certain amount of time to live up to expectations. If you don't, you will be replaced. It's that simple.

Ok real question. Correct me if I'm wrong. We need the following to happen to get possibly get to Sugar Bowl:

Tennessee win vs Vanderbilt

LSU win vs Texas AM

FSU win vs Florida

Bama win vs Auburn

And Bama win vs Florida

It's hard to tell exactly until we see the CFB rankings tomorrow.

If A&M and/or LSU are ranked low enough, it might not make much of a difference.

But we absolutely want FSU to beat UF Saturday.

Dilfer was very complimentary of him.

Marked.

Won't happen. All of the prestigious jobs opening will have a shot at bringing in much better coaches.

If Butch leaves, it would be a lateral move, not to somewhere like Texas, ND, or LSU.

Of course Saban is going to say something good about one of his assistants. Especially one that would go to a rival school that Saban could whip every year.

And as frustrating as Debord might be at times. He's a decent offensive coach. Multiple games this year reveal that.

Who cares!! Most of the times he delivers all the coach speak so that other coaches don't have anything to use against him as negative recruiting material. The poor media doesn't get the juicy stuff that they want...who cares!! We already know way too much that goes on behind the scenes.

When Butch leaves and we struggle to find an upgrade to replace him, I don't want to read one whiney comment from all of you who have been crucifying him today for comments taken completely out of context.

I remember reading on 247 a while back that many of the coaching staffs we face in the SEC (UF's, USC's, Bama's, etc.) don't seem to have a whole lot of respect for our staff (on a strictly business level, personal stuff aside). But some others like Sumlin seem to hold him in a pretty well regard.

Probably varies from staff to staff and coaching tree to coaching tree honestly.

Honestly, he may leave if he's as upset and pressured as much as you say he is. But he absolutely will not go to a bigger program.

I actually agree about Debord. He's had his moments where he was absolutely terrible but we've averaged like 56 PPG over the last 3. Put 38 on Florida, like 700 yards of offense on aTm.

I've come around too. I'd like to see us slide him to working with OL full time (as an OC) and bring in a QB coach (maybe let the QB coach be Co-OC), but I hope he sticks around for us.

His playcalling is frustrating AF at times, but his schemes aren't bad.

Settle down please

I am settled...just tired of seeing our coach crucified, after everything he's given to bring our program back. If we still weren't making bowl games in year 4, I could understand, but we have improved our win total every year and have the chance to do that yet again this year, will make our 3rd straight bowl game, and have a chance to go to the Sugar Bowl. And all of this in the face of a gazillion injuries. Once again, the most ungrateful fanbase in the country.

I'll be interested to see how settled y'all are, if he decides to leave us for another job.
