SIAP but this is from Brice at 247
"I had talked w/ the bosses today at 247, having been told settlement was imminent --- expected by tomorrow morning.
First, this was done from the top down. It came from Dr. Joe DiPietro's order to get it settled to move UT forward and help get the school on the process back. That's from numerous folks familiar with proceedings.
Obviously, this is huge news and an overall positive for the University of Tennessee at all levels --- athletics, academics, public relations etc.
It's especially important from a recruiting standpoint. It's a major negative that overall will begin to fade away.
As for the settlement sum, I was told "It's way less than what we had feared but still twice as much" as if UT had settled before the suit ever was filed.
This is a victory for Butch Jones, & look for him to receive staunch backing coming out of this. Am told UT strongly believes in Jones' handling of matters and his discipline in the program."
According to Knoxnews article, they've already paid out $220K in legal fees. The case could drag on indefinitely at that rate, and I guess they probably reached the point where it was decided that it would be cheaper to settle. Also according to the article, UT acknowledged no guilt in the settlement.
I never understood the thinking that the lawsuit was in some way impacting recruiting. The fact that money, 2.48 million made it all go away points to no reason it would have or should have impacted recruiting. Its not like coaches jobs, scholarships, or bowl bids were ever even part of it. Money, that's it.
Way too much emphasis being put on winning big this year and cbj ability to recruit going forward
Won 9 games last year and that's the "problem" with the 17 class per many posters here. Is winning 10 this year going to fix that?
Just seems many are suggesting cbj is all in with this year and without an SEC title run his ability to recruit is over.
I am in no way ready to put that many chips on the table for this year and having to win at that high rate to say cbj has this thing moving in the right direction
Don't know how he could KNOW that...and I disagree. The plaintiffs went into this looking to sock the university. Bet it would've taken 8 million + and legal fees before their case started to sink.
I agree but at 9-3 it seems many are saying CBJs ability to recruit at the needed level to succeed here is over
You really want to put that much emphasis on this year and one game give or take?
If so what's next?
Dude.
2016 is make or break for this program. Either we win the East, play in Atlanta, and either make the playoffs or play in a New Years Six Bowl or the season is a FAILURE.
Sorry but 9-3 won't be anything but a colossal failure given the roster.
.
Anyway you can find that post?
If that's true somebodies head should roll for not settling then

Hard not to trust Larry on this one
Ignorance at it's finest if he does indeed have it right
Nick, I've read a few of your posts in the TH thread and now here. I've never seen what I am perceiving as frustration about a recruit from you. I think seeing how you are reacting really puts in perspective how poorly TH has handled this. Granted, he is a kid, but hopefully he learns. No way.
Tee committed to Clemson on his visit (why their sources were confident) came to OCD, and either committed to Tennesee, or certainly led the coaches to believe he was about to commit, (why our "inside" sources were confident, as well as most TN media), then turns around and trolls the Vols.
He saw how Hunter Johnson did it, and followed like a puppy dog, as opposed to recognizing it as a dirty move (but all is fair in llove and recruiting, right? :angel
The only way I let Rodgers, Higgins or Johnson even sniff the TN facilities is with a public decommitment from Clemson. Those cats are thick as thieves, and their only goal on TN campus is to divide the TN program... period.
Tee has seen what he needs to see at TN, and decided to bounce.
Peace out.
Yep. Hopefully they target all of our rivals in the southeastern conference because this stuff goes on at those places too

In the same breath, keep on keeping on brother. I don't know you, but you are in my prayers daily. 2 Timothy 2:15.
