Florida streak (split)

Dooley was no Saban, and that game was another nail in the coffin for him. There was absolutely no leadership on that team and everyone knew it, especially with hotheads like Bray and Da'Rick Rogers.

Yet some of us managed to continue following the team even through that garbage.

You sound like a Tennessee fan during the Dooley years. "Coaches need to coach em up!", and the classic "Diamond in the rough" argument. A higher PERCENTAGE of 4 and 5 star players get drafted than 3 and 2 stars. That is a fact. It is also a fact that 4 and 5 star players generally have better measurables than 2 and 3 star players and therefore have the raw talent needed to succeed early and often. It's no coincidence either that every team that has won the national title since the BCS era started has at least two top ten classes stacked in their roster.

You believe what you want, but there will be 5+ Gators drafted from the 2016 defense. Among them are two defensive linemen.

I have said it before and will say it again. You go on rankings all you want. The 2016 Gators are far superior, on paper, than the 2015 Gators.....assuming The QB situation isn't a God awful mess.

They may be superior on paper, but I think on the field they're going to disappoint you.

I do not think 2016 will be as "good" a year for the Gators as 2015 was. It may not feel as miserable at the end of the season, because it shouldn't follow the same FLY-HIGH-then-FALL-LOW trajectory. But I suspect you're not gonna get double-digit wins this time around. Maybe not even close.

Could be wrong. Will be fun to find out. Can't wait for football season.

Have said before that they will be a better team, but may end up with a worse record.

Again, I'm just telling all of you (and you can choose to believe what you will), that it will be a better team than last season.

I know the general consensus on the board is that they will be less talented and worse.

That's not the case.

Seems like whoever(whomever?) you guys throw in back there, it's never been a problem for you guys against us.

Doesn't matter. You guys could field the freakin' Little Giants with Rick Moranis as your QB and it would still be a close game for us.

There's depth. Just green. I feel Davis, Johnson, AA (if healthy), Reese and Rolin are going to be solid vs the run. Brantley, Ivie and Clark are space eaters that will command doubles inside. LB just need to make the tackles. Missed tackles were a major issue last year.

I was right there with you until you mentioned Rolin. He's terrible...see also McMillan.

Anzalone and Kylan Johnson are injury prone.

Brantley is our only interior DL good enough to command a double team. Clark and Ivie, not so much. At least not yet.

As usual you're much more optimistic than I am. Our defense will be very good this season, but last year's D was elite.

What he said.

Offense will be significantly better.

Defense will be very good, but not elite like last year.

Wanting to lose and not giving a damn are 2 different things. See UT vs UK in '11.

We lost that due to a bad call and what you said.

Bring up Bama losses not our worst one since Wyoming and Memphis before that.

Jump higher Vols.

i agree. i don't think UF's problem will be on D. and they probably won't be as good as last year's, but that's setting the bar really high.

offensively, the bar is frickin' low, so if i was a gator fan, i'd be expecting the defense to carry once again, and hoping for any semblance of an offense.

someone said it earlier, may be you, FL may actually be all around better, but won't have the same record, and i doubt they win the East.

So basically give and take, last years team = this years team?

Like 99 said, overall UF will field a better team this year than last. Whether that translates into another 10-win season remains to be seen.

Forgot to mention we have a kicker now.

And Treon Harris is gone. Hallelujah.

That kicker. Jeebus. You may be guaranteed points by just getting to the 30 yard line. He's got a leg where 60 yard FG's are very possible.

the good news for UF, the schedule is manageable. two toughest games, imo, @TN and LSU at home. i think ARK is too early to tell, but i wish we played them this year....and UGA....who knows. by the time they get to that game UGA and UF's season could be "overish", at least as far as the SEC is concerned.

long story short, the winner of the TN/FL game once again has the inside track, and once again could set one of the teams on an upward trajectory that could be difficult to stop.

early in the season....but i think it's a must win for both teams.

last thing, forgetting the streak et al, and just focusing on this year's game, for the first time in a long time, i do actually believe that the outcome of this year's game finally has more to do with how well TN can be vs. shortcomings we hope FL has. FL may be good, better on offense than last year, good on D. i don't know that it matters. we'll match up well against them.

short version...i think we finally have a roster the coaching staff will trust to go out and dictate to it's opponent.

Meh, we have a kicker that can hit it from 60 in practice too. Problem is when the lights turn on and the crowd is going nuts. Kicking is such a mental position that you don't know how they will respond until you see them in a live game that matters

I wasn't comparing our new kicker to UT's kicker. We've seen what Medley's all about in crunch time.

I was comparing our new kicker to the inconsistent, unreliable coke head kicker we were saddled with last year.

There's no comparison.

UF will be much improved in the kicking game.

Have you ever played competitive sports before?

You don't need to psyche out inferior competition. Remember when we had that 20 something year streak against both Kentucky and Vanderbilt. You think psyche had something to do with that? Or were our guys just so much better than them.

Florida didn't need our players getting psyched out to beat us the last 11 years. They've fielded much better teams with a lot better players as the NFL draft consistently shows.

The fact we haven't been lucky in getting a fluke victory sometime in the last 11 years doesn't make this is psyche issue. Its a luck issue. You're basically complaining we didn't get lucky.
It is you that I wonder about ever playing a competitive sport, or gone through life for that matter,to think that being more talented will pull you through even 90% of the time you are delusional!

Wrong, it's exactly the same thing. If you want to win, you certainly are gonna give a damn.

No, especially in bowl games. More often than not, 1 team wants to be there and the other doesn't. Never put too much stock in a bowl win unless it is for a NC or semi-final.

I'm not saying bowl wins aren't important.

Remember when Utah beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl?

You wonder if Alabama ever recovers from that humiliating beatdown.

I brought that one up earlier. UF & Bama had a playoff game in the SECCG. The winner went to BCS CG. UF won, the air was out of Bama's balloon.

I think they've recovered OK.

You guys can say whatever you want, no football player I've ever known wants to lose, regardless of the game.

True. But football is an emotional game. And if you are thinking national championship all year and that dream is dashed, you're probably not gonna be up for a game that means nothing.

There's a fine line between winning and losing. A slightly less motivated team will not play as well as they could properly motivated.

Can you tell us why you think this team will be more talented? Are you banking on true freshmen to be big time contributors immediately like we were last year?
