Lol. Two years ago florida got beat by south carolina and missouri, much less talented teams, teams that we were more talented than. The year before that they reeled off 7, YES 7 straight losses, again to the likes of missouri, georgia, VANDY (lol), south carolina, GEORGIA SOUTHERN (hahahaha), and Florida state.
So you mean to tell me the team that lost 7 straight games, 8 total, should have beaten us?
But in your mind good recruiting = black athletes....
You sir, have issues. And we wonder why race is such a huge problem these days with mindsets like this.
Top 25 isn't good enough. To win big top 5 classes are necessary. And not just one. Multiple. Two to three in a row. Dooley never did it. In fact in the rivals era of modern recruiting no Tennessee coach has done it till Butch.
That's more accurate.
Are you color blind (as in the real disease)? Do you not see who makes up the overwhelming majority of SEC rosters? Or how about NFL rosters
There is a reason why the SEC dominates college football. And when it isn't SEC schools it's other southern schools with access to the same player pool like Clemson and Florida State. Ohio State is really the only outlier. And Urban Meyer has made his name trying to steal players from the south.
Why else do you think Jim Harbaugh and the Big 10 wanted satellite camps so had?
The discussion is about florida vs. UT, not winning NC's. It's not like we were bringing in recruiting classes in the 40's, 50's or 60's like vandy.
Per 247 recruiting rankings for UT:
2007: 3rd
2008: 34th
2009: 8th
2010: 9th
2011: 14th
2012: 20th
2013: 24th
2014: 7th
2015: 5th
2016: 14th
We have consistently been in the top 25 in recruiting, with 2008 the anomaly. It's not a foregone conclusion that on-field success just happens to follow good recruiting. We have damn well proven that isn't the case over the last decade. So don't give me that bull crap that we didn't have talent to beat florida AT LEAST once in 11 years, or more than 6 times in 30.

You give us Florida's recruiting player pool and we win every year. Vandy probably becomes the Stanford of the SEC as well.
Florida with Tennessee's player pool becomes like Arkansas because they would split the little talent a state like Tennessee produces with another power (FSU).
Recruiting back then wasn't as precise as now. If you look at the list of 5 stars the last 5-10 years you'll see a large percentage make it to the league. If you look at the last 3 national champs, they had multiple top 5 recruiting classes on campus.
Whether you like it or not, elite recruiting is the key to winning championships in modern college football. Its not sufficient to win a title. But it damn sure looks necessary.
Recruiting top players IS important.
Fact is that the state of FloriDUHH does have a huge amount of top recruits so it's easier for UF, FSU and other in state schools to recruit more of those top players to stay closer to home and to allow their parents, siblings and friends to see them play more often.
The same can be said for other states like Texas, Californicate and some other states.
The next important step behind top recruiting is to coach them up properly and I think our Vols have good coaches that can do that with maybe our WR's underperforming based on their star rankings coming out of high school but I think we'll see much better play from our WR's and TE's this season.
Also a BIG part of coaching IS the mental aspect.
Before a player can achieve goals they MUST believe they can and they must expect they can do the things correctly and consistently.
They must go into every game KNOWING they can Win and go into it EXPECTING to get the WIN and totally refuse to lose.
To many people the idea that a loss comes from a mental block of consistent past losses just doesn't hold water.
The fact is that with losing streaks it sometimes does become a mental block and puts doubts into players minds and those doubts must be removed and replaced with a firm belief that no matter what they CAN and WILL go out ad take their WIN away from the other team.
Having a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) has been proven many times over many years of research to have a serious effect on being successful in sports, business and everything else in life.
That's a huge part of making a culture change and oftentimes getting that accomplished takes several years.
Last season we were just a few plays away from making the SEC Championship game and maybe the playoffs.
Our coaches and players KNOW that for a fact and their belief and confidence levels should be through the roof for this season.
We put a total blowout on a very good team that was highly ranked in our bowl game to end last season and that added lots of confidence in our footVol team.
For the 1st time since he arrived buTch has said that now our Vols are finally ready to compete and I agree with that.
I totally believe that our Vols are ready to compete and WIN against any team in the country.
If not now, When?
I believe our time is NOW!!!
WIN by WIN Team 120 will work to earn a Championship...VFL...GBO!!!
Racism is the belief one race is superior to another based on superficial qualities like the color of ones skin.
The dominance of black folks in college football is based on facts.
I agree. I'm just telling yall this program hasn't deserved to be nationally relevant and people are getting mad.
You can't just hope to beat an opponent like Vandy does. If you wanna beat Florida, out recruit them and develop better pro players. When we do that we'll beat them.
Till then you guys will be making excuses about players getting psyched out.
there's no excuses here. and in the 90's, i'd say we did out recruit and develop more NFL talent than they did. it didn't matter. at worst, we had equal talent levels.
FL finds ways to win, we find ways to lose. until that changes, and the post earlier about knowing you can vs. knowing you will said it best.
Did you watch the NFL draft last week?
7 gators drafted compared to 0 Vols. Last year wasn't any better. 8 gators drafted in 2015 to 0 Vols.
So in the last 2 years, Florida has had 15 players drafted while we've had ZERO. Its actually amazing that the games have been so close. You would think with so much better upperclass talent, that the margin of victory for Florida the last 2 years wouldn't be a total of 2 points.
And the last 2 years haven't been an aberration. Florida has consistently recruited better than us for most of the last 11 years. And they've put more players into the NFL.
Kind of hard to beat a team if they consistently field the better players.
I completely agree. Next year will be the first time in a long time that we have really been on equal footing with Florida. Yes we've had a better qb at time or two, but they've had the better players, better special teams, better defensive etc, and not by just a little! How many years in a row did they return a kick or punt, or both against us? That's team speed. Next year we will be on equal footing! We better win!
Per 247 recruiting rankings for UT vs Florida:
2007: 3rd (UT) 1st Florida (I would call that a wash)
2008: 34th 6th Florida (anomaly year)
2009: 8th 7th Florida (wash)
2010: 9th 1st Florida (not a wash, but close)
2011: 14th 11th Florida (basically a wash)
2012: 20th 4th Florida (more talent Florida)
2013: 24th 3rd Florida (more talent Florida)
2014: 7th 9th Florida (wash)
2015: 4th 21st Florida (more talent UT)
2016: 14th 13th Florida (wash)
