Third down for Dobbs

No one's advocating him not giving football a "chance". I just don't see it being the plum opportunity that most of us would envision if he's not on the path to PLAY. He gets into a Tyrod Taylor situation? Play it out. Chase Daniel? Aerospace firm...about that position?

Like you said, Dobbs isn't going to make stupid decision. And with his intangibles, he'll have plenty of good opportunities. Maybe his passion is following out his football dream first, even if that means starting toward the bottom.

Chase Daniel just signed a 21 mil contract for 3 years. If football isn't the dream, could dreams not be put on hold a few years to secure financial stability and give yourself more opportunities over your life?

You don't think engineers have "financial stability"? And I purposefully used a career backup as an example. Daniel has had a great life in that role. The money generated has greatly helped in HIS major...business administration. Even has his own business printing T-Shirts. Nothing that detracted from his daytime job. A specialty engineer on the other hand? "Relay these signals onto the field Charlie...then I'll give those schematics a whirl".

I can't believe you fools have spent two pages debating what Josh will do after college as if he hasn't said it a million times already.

He's been asked this question already many times. He's said he wants to play football as long as he can. That he wants to play in the NFL. And afterwards he wants to start his own company designing planes (a plan that would be greatly aided by the money made during an NFL career).

Just listen to the kid instead of trying to create your own narrative.

I was an engineer before staying home with my kids. And although there is a level of financial security, there is a always a degree of uncertainty with work demand. It would not be the same as having a padded bank account from which you could live off interest if need be. You have to admit there is a difference.

And I know nobody asked for your opinion.

If I didn't have him on ignore, I'd swear he was speaking to me. :). Am I legally a "fool" if I'm IGNORant of the fact? Seriously we need to decide this by the end of business today...Josh is busy studying one or the other of the career paths we're picking. :hi:

Edit: just to be sure, Josh "wants to 'play football as long as he can" THEN play in the NFL? Is he going to stop playing football BEFORE he gives the NFL a shot? :dunno:

Yes, but median income has no bearing on job security; however, job security isn't necessary when you are already financially stable. That is my only point.

His family is RICH!!! He's already "financially stable"!

Haha, fair enough. Although he could come from parents who expect their children to pave their own way without much financial help. Possibly?

VERY possibly. Starting his own firm might also be viewed as a sound financial investment? Family wise? :wink2: Also, we drifted a 100 miles off my original point. If Dobbs starts out as a third teamer with reasonable expectations of becoming a Chase Daniel? That's one or two plays from being a starter and isn't the Tyler Bray practice squad example that I don't see Dobbs exactly cottoning towards.

D4H is correct, JD said he wanted to play as long as possible. My take is:
Active Roster= Play it out
Practice Squad= Hello Pratt & Whitney

I think the point is that Dobbs' engineering degree isn't going anywhere. He can try football for a while, then get into engineering for his career. If he started out in engineering, football wouldn't be waiting for him the same way.

Yeah its a pretty silly question IMO. I dont know where Dobbs might be drafted, after this Jacoby Brissett
thing I'm ready to give up worrying about whats happening in the NFL. But if Dobbs is drafted at all
then this aerospace jazz will have to wait.

Even the bad backups make bank.
