How likely is it that UT is doing some Ole Miss?

I don't think we paid. I think, as mentioned it was the right time and got lucky with the instate talent/legacies. And we had a lot to offer in terms of playing time. A lot of these kids like, Butch and his swagger. Our facilities, stadium, and able to put players in the league help. But who knows?

Actually I've been a fan since the Brent Schaeffer days. I will say that I lost some of my die hard interest during the down years with Dooley. Got reinvigorated about the program in 2014 after we signed that great recruiting class.

I spent 2014 mostly following our stud recruits like Hurd and Malone. I literally didn't know anything about Dobbs till the Alabama game. I was impressed. Then I saw South Carolina. After that I became D4H.
Someone should also maybe explain to you what being a die hard fan actually means.

When there is something inappropriate, UT has stepped in to enforce rules and punish violators, as seen in basketball in recent memory. I feel we have a relatively clean program.

Simply having a highly ranked class isn't sufficient to cause concern. In addition to the factors already mentioned, we had a lot of early playing time to offer, and more open roster spots than normal. The size of those classes really bumps them up in the rankings.

I would expect that we bend rules here and there. I do see a couple of key differences between Miss and UT. One, UT has a far more illustrious history than Miss - and much more well known brand. Second, a lot of the key pieces in Jones' early classes were either in-state or legacy recruits.

His success probably had more to do with luck of timing of available prospects with ties than violations.
This thread made me laugh.

The "Brent Schaeffer Days"?? Lol. All 12 of them? An eventual transfer after 2 season who threw 37 career passes and 2 tds during his single season? THATS what made you a UT fan? What grade were you in?

If everything you listed in your post makes up your "Vol Fan bona fides".....that sure as hell explains a lot. At least you were honest about it I guess.

Long as there's no tacos involved I don't see the problem.

Every respectable football program pushes the envelope and then also has a side hustle.

If you are not cheating, you must be Purdue.

It happens everyday in College Football, some are just better at it than others!

I've come up with the theory that D4H is none other than "The Grand Poobah" himself just effing with the rest of us. I mean, if you really think about it, who else could get away with such craziness with no fear of backlash.

Admit it Freak....I figured you out. :)

The question wasn't to do with whether UT adheres to every crazy detail of every rule, but whether its likely someone who is an employee of the football program / athletic department is handing out cash as Ole Miss has been outed to have been doing by an ex-player on prime time national TV. IF a program hands out cash or manipulates grades to keep players eligible, then they are intentionally cheating. Everyone knows that without reading a 500 page rule book.

Personally, I'm beginning to believe its part of the system to hand out cash and you're probably not going to be able to be competitive without doing so. I'm 99% sure in my mind that Auburn gave $ to the big DT from GA this last cycle as I felt certain it was either UT or GA then the tiggers jump up and grab him.

If these top recruits are getting paid, then they will all quickly know that there's money out there to be had and a large number of them will want their piece of the pie. Doubt you can keep something like that secret among a bunch of high school seniors.

If everyone is handing out cash, then we or GA should have still landed the kid (considering he favored us until AU came out of nowhere). I'm sure everyone bends the rules (maybe gives gear or pays expenses that shouldn't necessarily be paid), but I think blatantly handing out Benjamins is reserved to a certain few and we all have an idea of who they are. See, e.g., Ole Miss; Auburn.

I think what led to our huge class was all the legacys. It's believable. Plus even with out the legacys ut is capable of pulling those type of kids. Ole piss is not

Everyone probably "cheats" to a certain degree. But. We're Tennessee. Their Ole Miss. Ole Miss signing high classes raise red flags way faster than Tennessee signing high classes.

I remember people saying ole miss bought Richardson then we got him, so that must have been expensive

A recruit just has to ask for the money up front, then go where he wants(Tn) on NSD. What will these chump schools do? Turn him in for taking their money and not going to their school, nope.

The Vols are clean, we let these other chumps pay our players. Money under the table can't be recovered.

Jump higher Vols.

There's a 100% chance that Butch has paid someone along the way. Or something of that nature. Just look at Drew Richmond...JBH

I believe all major D1 schools are cheating in one way or another. Yes, UT is cheating and hopefully they are smart enough to not get caught.

I just don't think so. Guys may get paid, but I think Jones is smarter than that (being directly involved). Jones is more of a bend the rules instead of break the rules kinda guy.

Most of our elite recruits have been Tennessee kids or legacies. And for guys like Tuttle or Preston, they were from the state next door (Georgia and North Carolina). The few guys on the team from way outside our recruiting footprint are under the radar 3 star recruits like John Kelly are legacies like Kahlil.

We've never had a Laquon Treadwell-esque WTF signing. A 5-star from across the country with no ties.

Gaurantno - NJ -- Clausen Cal - Ainge - Oregon -- really ?
