Florida game confidence

If there is anything that should have been learned by now, it is to ignore everything about Florida that occurs before the Tennessee game.

Most on here will never learn. After the UF vs ECU game most UT fans were laughing their heads off about the ineptness of UF. Grier was a joke....never mind he was a joke for 3.5 quarters of the UT game. Since he was suspended he's since become Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Tim Tebow, and Peyton Manning all rolled into 1.

Remember how crappy Baker Mayfield looked against us for 3.5 quarters? Dude looked like a scrub, then grew the arm of Aaron Rodgers and the elusiveness of Johnny Manziel with 10 minutes to go.

Well, looks like Eddy Pineiro will hit a 75-yard FG to win the game for UF on Sept. 24.

Impressive young kicker. He looked really good tonight.

That means the world will discover he has $140,000 in gambling debts, and he gets disqualified for life from amateur sports ... one week after he kicks that 75 yard game-winner against the Vols.

Before anyone gets too overconfident about the Gators, I was traveling tonight and was able to listen to the Florida Spring Game. They have found their QB (Del Rio), picked up a very impressive stud RB from junior college (Mark Thompson 6'2" and 240 and very fast), and have found a very impressive FG kicker (Piniero) who was booming them from downtown tonight. Yes, I know they played mostly "vanilla" defense, but skill and speed are obvious. We are in the strange position of being the likely favorites for the East and favorites over a visiting Gator squad (whose school has owned us for many years) who will be licking their gator lips with the possibility of destroying our season. And while I love our Vols, if it is a close game, we will be in serious trouble. Don't SLEEP on this Gator team. Take them dead serious or we lose.

UF sets up their spring game so the 1st team O goes up against the 2nd team D. If we did that then everyone would be talking about how Dobbs ran for 300 yds in the spring game and no one would be able to stop him. I can assure you Barnett and Kongbo will be bringing a bit more pressure than the 2nd string UF D

Brother, they had their 1's vs 2's and 3's. Their 2's and 3's looked terrible on both sides of ball.

We only learned they have a good kicker.

a loss to florida this season will be very bad. 0-12 has not has not happened in the history Tennessee football.

He missed A 54 harder in their spring game. Who knew he gets better 21 yards further out?

When we run it up on them it Knoxville, it will make next year in the swamp more interesting.

Jump higher Vols.

The reference to the 75 yard kick is because there is a video of him kicking one from 76. Not in a game or anything, just out there by himself.

Then there is the one of the Texas kicker hitting one from 80.

Personally, I'm waiting for the day we see the 100-yarder.

I watched the UF spring game yesterday. I was worried they had found an offense until I realized they were playing Ones against Backups on both sides of the ball. I came away thinking that Del Rio looked serviceable, but not much more, against vanilla, less talented defenses, and no pressure.

I came away thinking that there is a MAJOR dropoff in talent between 1s and 2/3s, on both sides of the ball. And while Del Rio didn't look like the second coming of Manning, if anything happens to him, UF is toast.

Objectively I thought Del Rio looked good. He wasn't facing pressure or a good defense but he looked good. Kind of like going up against the scout team in a red jersey. Their WR's look ok, Calloway is the key to that unit. We'll see about TE's.

Kicker is fixed and will nullify our return game for kick offs.

Their defense including backups will take a step back this year.

Their running game will be the same.

As you say, it's hard to tell when they're playing against 2nd/3rd string...but I thought Appleby looked okay, as well. The two freshmen looked (predictably) out of their element, but both Del Rio and Appleby held their own, I thought.

The running game looked pretty anemic. A few good breakouts, but a lot of not, too. And against 2nd/3rd stringers, a lot of not is definitely not great.

Just gotta watch Del Rio and Appleby's arms. Early in the season, that might be their 2nd best way of scoring (after Eddie the FG kicker).

Wait til Del Rio rolls into town this Fall.

100% spot on.

Del Rio was 10-11 for 176 yards and 2 tds in 4 possessions. He definitely held his own. We underestimate how difficult it will be to beat Florida this year at our peril. After all these years, after all these losses, I would think that wouldn't be a problem with respect to the Florida game....I'm clearly wrong. I know you and others will mock me and tell me how negative and silly I am for thinking it's not a given that we obliterate Florida this year and that's fine, just do what you do. But that's gonna be a very tough game in Neylsnd that likely comes down to who makes a play late in the game, and if it does, that in no way favors Tennessee.

I would never maliciously mock you, KB, I respect you far too much for that. I just tease you a bit from time to time.

In the past I have considered three options:

1) Vols win big!

2) Florida wins big!

3) A close game, winner is the team that makes the last big play.

This year Florida doesn't have the ability to win big.

They were somewhat impressive. Del Rio made some nice throws and is definitely there QB but the defense he was going against isn't anywhere near SEC caliber. That game in Knoxville will be interesting either way but I think we get the W.

There's a certain segment of VN population that absolutely refuses to admit that UT has been down talent-wise the past ten years. Until this year, UF has out-talented and out-depth-ed UT, plain and simple. There is no magic. There is no hex. There is no voodoo. UT lost to a better team each year.

This year, UT is the better team.

I accept we are better now, but I can't accept they have been better than us the whole time. Too many other factors involved. It's been a bad run, I'm glad the streak will end this year. I prefer in September and not December.

Watched a replay of his 1st TD. The blitzing safety waited a second too long and was slow as molasses. Put a good safety in there then that is an easy sack.

I expect it will go like this:

Through 1 quarter: UT 7, UF 3
Through halftime: UT 17, UF 3
Through 3 quarters: UT 23, UF 3
Final: UF 24, UT 23

UF scores the winning TD on a hail mary on 4th and 30 with no time remaining, after Antonio Callaway catches a ball in the end zone that was tipped by 3 UT defenders.
