2016 Election Thread Part Deux

It depends on your perspective. How important is gay marriage to straight people? That should be 10,000 on everyone's list, yet it's made to be important.

This country does need to be significantly less PC regardless of your views on trump. REAL issues such as the economy, sustainability (not theft and distributing stolen funds to losers) and the country's future should trump people's feelings every single time. The PC culture is for ignorant, worthless people.

Or, gay marriage could be about giving all Americans the same rights the rest of us share? Or is that too PC to say?

I couldn't care any less about it. Whether they can or can't doesn't bother me one bit. It was an example. My first paragraph had nothing to do with the second one.

No need to change as long as what he is doing is still working.

Don't encourage the Trumpeters, Gramps. Someone needs to explain to Trump that the Pen and Phone doctrine should end with the Obama years.

Someone needs to explain to him that he will not be able to make the decision to tax Carrier products at 30% because they moved to Mexico. Among other things.

His statement, "I will never disappoint you people" is so reminiscent of the Obama 08 campaign. That means so many different things to each person there. A lot of people are in for being biggly disappointed.

It's hard for me to feel sympathy for Trump and Trumpers. Sure, it's their right to get together and yell loudly, and I wish that these protesters would stop interfering with Trumpers' right to yell loudly. But Trump has requested the Piper, and the Piper now needs to be paid. You want to build a campaign off of tension, vitriol, and "othering" certain groups of people? Okay, that is your prerogative as an American. But you'd best be willing to face the consequences too. You've denounced and shat upon the barbarians, and now the barbarians are at the gates.

This is all a pile of horse apples. It's not anyone's fault that people like you hear dog whistles everywhere.

These are liberals. They do this every campaign cycle. They just feel more empowered since we as a society - to include law enforcement - now indulge their fancies.

PC is a disease. When you start changing the English language on campuses to avoid offending young adults, it's gone to far. Its a cancer that is contributing to the death of this country...

An obnoxious guy at a party is free to drink and insult his way through, but if another guest decides to punk him out as a result, it should surprise no one. You can call the law and have the assaulter arrested, but very few are going to feel much sympathy for the victim, as he made one personal insult too many.

In other words when you've allowed yourself to be so neutered that you can't discuss tough topics, then you've automatically lost. The other side can simply throw out bigot, racist, whatever phobe, or whatever ist, and you crawl away for fear of offending anyone and never discuss substance. All it took was for progressives/liberals to define acceptable speech - that's rolling over and being dead. Might as well order your little red book right now.

We can either be sold out by Democrats, or sold out by Republicans - not much of a choice. We know what to expect of the Democrats. We know the Republicans coddle one group - the voters - during the campaign, and another much more select group afterwards. We can settle for continued non-representation, or we can possibly force either change or the death of the Republican party - their choice. Some of us are out of patience; we grew old waiting for someone to represent our interests. And for the most part that's pretty simple - quit spending our damn money for the benefit of everyone else.

Sorry, it took me a few hours of laughing uncontrollably to a Trump supporter lecturing me about substance for me to respond. My apologies for the delay.

Yes, PC, it's destroying America, and it is the primary problem this country faces, along with illegal immigration, terrorism, and other fear-related lower- and middle-tier issues.

If I decide to go rant about everyone who is keeping me down and decide to single out some groups in the process, yes, I'd best be willing to face the repercussions. That doesn't justify what the other parties may do, but it is simply a fact - I had best be willing to face the music.

PC is not a disease, and the English language is constantly evolving. And if it is contributing to "the death of this country," as you suggest, then perhaps we should never have been a country at all, because we're apparently too big a bunch of sissies, PCers and anti-PCers all, to handle being a nation.

Calling someone "African-American" if they prefer is fine. Calling that same person "Black" sometime later if they change their mind is also fine. Doesn't mean they are flawless human beings, but it is simply a mark of respect for your fellow human beings. Being criticized for saying that gay people should not be married is also fine, because such a person clearly doesn't have any tolerance for their fellow human beings and only wants their own values constantly reinforced by law, at the degradation of others.

What you have a problem with are those who are hijacking political correctness and, in turn, acting like those they criticize - that is, they have no tolerance for the intolerant, and they then attempt to stifle their voices. Yes, that is a problem, but I would hardly call it "the death of America." If that leads to the death of America, then we are a bunch of spineless wimps, the whole lot of us. And no amount of whining from either side is going to save us.

Illegal aliens and terrorism are lower-middle tier issues?

Wtf do you consider top issues? Safe spaces and feelings?

Yes. I would rank illegal immigration a middle-tier issue, while I would rank terrorism a lower-tier issue. Illegal immigration is at the lowest it has been in decades, and is not a black-and-white issue regardless of the sheer numbers coming across the border (lowest it's been in some time now), although many attempt to make it either black or white, figuratively speaking.

Terrorism? Terrorism is such a minute problem in reality that it hardly registers on my political radar. It's merely fear-based politicizing by the candidates and parties. I'm not going to get my underwear in a wad over something less likely to kill me, or my fellow countrymen for that matter, than an elevator malfunction. Now, could a radical jihadist organization get a nuclear device and screw that rosy little picture up in a hurry? Absolutely, but, I'm not going to get bent out of shape about it and waste too much time, energy, and resources combating something that should largely just be a good intelligence matter left to our spies, SIGINT people, occasional drone operator, etc.

I would rate safe spaces and feelings along with terrorism - essentially non-issues that the loudmouth Internet and social media fringe (on both sides of the issues) whip up to the point of hysteria.

It's a cancer. It undermines everything this country was founded upon. Anyone challenging it is persecuted...See Donald Trump.

And yes, this is just one of many things that are destroying this country.

It's always darkest before the dawn...

Again, you're not talking about political correctness. You're talking about people who have hijacked the concept and are misusing it.

Or, maybe you are talking about political correctness and think you're entitled to call people any name you want and should be able to pontificate on their rights/experiences/situations/etc. without any criticism in return.

I'll grant you that, given how spineless those are who attempt to stifle free speech as well as those who overreact to "PC" as if it's apocalyptic, it may very well be destroying us. I doubt it, but you are right that we are a bunch of whiny whimps. Just perhaps not in the sense you mean.

Some of you are really going to cast a vote this November because of political correctness?

I mean, I hate oversensitivity as much as the next guy, but you may as well go vote for banning pollen this spring or something.

Both votes will be equally useless.

You're not understanding anything. I doubt anyone is voting solely based on PC. But it is nice to hear a politician speak their mind for once. Also, yes, PC is holding the country back, but I doubt anyone is voting simply on PC. You're making up your own narrative.

You may be right, but some of you whine so much about it on here, it's hard for me not to arrive at the conclusion that it may very well be the dominant motive that drives some of you politically.

This country survived the near eradication of our indigenous peoples, slavery, a civil war, two world wars, Jim Crow, a violent civil rights era, an horrific depression, and some of you think PC will be our downfall. I mean, Jesus H., stop with the fearmongering already!

Former Bill Clinton concubine, Jennifer Flowers, will be appearing on stage with Donald Trump when he begins his general election campaign in New York City. :)

Not THE downfall. It is certainly hindering progress. Hell, aren't you a prof? Retards in college can't even be around "trigger" words? They can't handle an opposing opinion? Safe spaces are created to shield them from the real world and you think people that oppose those retards are whining too much? GTFO

These are the retards you're educating and helping to prepare for the real world?

How the f do you expect them to have to work with different cultures and other countries? Other cultures aren't nearly as sensitive as we are for these retards. Working internationally is the wave of the future and all.

Your anti Trump schitck is almost as bad as your Cheney obsession. You need to step down from your moral high horse. Quit thinkng that through your well thought out, word salad posts, that you sit atop a pedestal above those who support Trump. You are nothing special, just like the rest of us. There are those who support Trump, big deal. You dont. Big deal. I dont. Big deal. The reality is, every presidential candidate blows. They always will. We have one of the worst and most corrupt political systems in the world. Stop the fearmongering? Why dont you stop trying to invalidate peoples opinions?
