But that has nothing to do with the actual game. That's call pretty coeds running around a field.

I'm sure you mean that as a joke but it's really not about that. I've just enjoyed following the LV softball team and over time it has become a preferred sport over baseball. It's just a faster paced game and is a better spectator sport. There's not nearly as much time wasted and the games are generally more exciting. The Weekly's are awesome. That's probably part of it as well. UT having an awesome program makes it enjoyable.

The time factor of a baseball game is one component but it's also the length of the season. Until the All-star break if you miss one game, a week, or a month the standings are within reach for the bulk of the teams minus the outliers. Life happens and at the end of the day only the most devoted watch even 81 games of the season which is still only half their total. Contrast to the NFL the average fan can easily catch 8 games or more of the regular season.

Some sports such as golf, tennis, or nascar set up better for single events and other must see showdowns.

For many of us, I assume we keep a pulse on our individual secondary sport preferences by default ( general sport talk on the websites/sports talk shows) and tend to tune in around the playoffs. If there is a story line or personal tie in to a player/sport we pay more attention for that period of time then let it go back by the wayside.

I'll make an argument for baseball.

I love baseball. I love the smell of freshly mowed grass. And the sound of a baseball hitting a glove. It's the sound of my childhood.

Unfortunately, I think baseball is a casualty of 21st century "instant gratification". The slow pace and nuances of a good baseball game are lost on this generation. I still keep score when I go to a major league game. The break between innings is used for fetching a hot dog and beer. Or to talk with your neighbors about the new pitcher they just called up. Or to tell your son why they sweep the infield between innings. Or to talk about dinner after the game. Or whatever.

My 2 cents.

On the legal front, not directly related to UT, but the guy from Yale's basketball team that was expelled got a lawyer and took some big swings at the whole Title IX system as it relates to sexual assault. Very interesting reading, IMO.

Lawyer for Yale Basketball Captain: Sex in 2014 Was Consensual, School’s Independent Investigator Agrees | The Big Lead

If he's innocent I hope he's the landmark flamethrower for Title IX gone too far. It's human nature for us to run wild with good intentions until we're checked.

Spot on.

Shoop is impressed with Micah Abernathy so far. Kid is going to be hell on the backend for us. Jalen Tabor style of player that can play anywhere on the backend and make plays.

I'm so excited to see what the defense looks like this year. I think Shoop is going to have the rest of the SEC scared of our secondary.

I would be interested to see how much time a ball is actually "in play" in an average game.

Pitches, ball in the field of play... I'd even give you runners on base since there is interplay going on between the pitcher and runners at that moment. That would boost it up quite a bit

Anyways, let's move on

That's been calculated. It was a little over 7 minutes. And that's why a game that usually lasted an hour and a half to 2 hours at the most when I was a kid is not being watched today. I have no idea what the average game last today, but it is much longer.

Well I just saw were someone said 18 minutes and had the article. It has been at least 5 years since I saw the article for the baseball time of 7 min and several seconds. I do remember there was a little discussion and disagreement on how they factored the time. MLB disagreed with them also at the time. And that article actually was part of the catalyst that provoked MLB into trying to shorten the games a little several years ago.

I know it's too early, but do you see him as the possible starter at free safety? With TK at strong and Gaulden riding up? What's your prediction on where Byrd ends up? I was hoping for an eventual pairing at CB with Marquill.

I don't know but he may steal Martin's spot. Evan Berry will be hard to keep off the field. His range is silly. Secondary is loaded and there isn't much dropoff anywhere. Funny thing is Martin may end up our best CB if he plays up to his athleticism. And if Sutton returns to his Soph form he'll be the best player on our defense. TKjr may lead the league in picks being a full time starter. He baits QBs better than most safeties I've seen. Now you see this good problem we have. 😁

Byrd will probably end up like Abernathy playing everywhere with great success.

I'm more excited than I've ever been as a Vol fan over this secondary. And I'm coming to the O/W game for sure this year. 😁

The rest of the country will hate our defense. They better hope Tuttle can't return to full strength this season or its over. He could end up our best player. Kid is a dominant playmaking DT.

Same here...for discussions sake lets say TKjr and Berry are starters based off experience etc, I don't see a huge dropoff in talent at all between Micah, Gaulden, Griffin and Warrior/Byrd. This is going to be a strong unit.

Same for me but no Mets. It went from my favorite sport to the equivalent of tennis pretty much. Can't really put my finger on what happened. Maybe it's because I have less time. Maybe if baseball season was shortened to 100 games. Sitting down for 2.5 hours to watch 1 out of 162 seems like a waste of time now. Idk.

There is just so "much" nowadays. I think people just don't appreciate taking a chill pill for a couple of hours like they should. That is what I love about baseball. Rampant free agency is what has ruined me as far as religiously following MLB.

On the baseball argument. I am going to say that I probably do not remember the article correctly. A Fox article says 14 minutes. The article I saw was so long ago that I cant find it. Either way there really is not a lot of actual action in football or baseball however it is factored.

This secondary is going to be down right nasty.

Butch said late June/early July for him.

This is something I've actually been thinking about lately. I hope he's able to get that leg strong enough that it doesn't hold him back too much during the season. Anyone have any insight on how long it might take to regain strength levels after an injury like this?

Stupid, freaking (no offense Freak) UGA player. One of the dirtiest plays I've seen a long time. Makes me angry when I think about the year Tuttle was having and should have had.

Still can't believe writers (and some of our posters) insisting that was textbook football. :thud:

Agree. Tuttle was a handful already. Will be a stud when healthy again...

This is the first Recruiting Forum Football Talk thread I've followed from the beginning and I have to say, I'm amazed at the broad range of content of it all. That being said, I think baseball is great to go to, but I can't watch it on tv. It's fun to go have a couple cold beers, a hot dog, watch some fireworks, and just relax a little. Maybe I'm spoiled because I only go when I can somehow get access to a box. :)
