Slightly concerned with DT depth

Khalil, Shy, Vickers, OBrien, Johnson, Quay. Pretty solid depth to me especially considering we tend to have plays with Barnett/Lewis inside to get additional quickness inside on 3rd down. Brown obviously would be nice but def no reason to jump off a ledge at that position

Slightly concerned with DT depth

We will have 6 true DTs heading into 2016 and 5 in 2017 even without Brown (and not counting the staff likely taking around 5 in 2017, which I assume would include some JUCO guys).

2016:

KMack/Johnson/O'Brien
Tuttle/Vickers/Picou

2017:

KMack/Johnson
Tuttle/Vickers/Picou

Depth isn't great but not crisis mode either. Landing Brown on Wednesday and then taking 1 JUCO guy in 2017 and 4 HS DTs would be perfect.

It's pretty far out there, but 2018 is actually a little scary on the DL. We will likely be playing a lot of sophomores that year unless we get Brown. Tuttle and KMack may be 3 and done guys.

The thing about missing on brown is that we know we're probably still set through 2017 at DT with a 4-5 man rotation (KMac, Tuttle, Johnson, Vickers, Picou), but we'll lose at least 2 of those guys after 2017 and could potentially lose all of them by 2018 (though it would be surprising and unlikely to see 3 underclassmen DTs jump early). We'll need to add 3-4 DTs who can contribute early between the 2017 and 2018 classes if we can't bring Brown in.

It's impossible to diagnose CTE before death. They can only find it after the player has passed. But there literally finding CTE in almost every football player, boxer, and hockey player that dies. Your brain isn't built to get hit around every day.
This could be very interesting. Dr. Sicking is brilliant. He came up with the SAFER barrier for Nascar.

Ah, forgot about picou. I agree though, we need several DT in 2017 class

OBrien and Vickers are gone after this year. Johnson will be a senior next season. Brown is a need. IMO

No. Vickers is only a RS JR next year so we're not losing him. He's got 2 more years.

A top 4 of Tuttle, McKenzie, Vickers, and Johnson is pretty much guaranteed for the next 2 years.

Interesting comments from Welton on The Locker Room Show with VQ. They asked him about Drew Richmond recruitment as an example of craziness of the last weekend leading up to NSD.

Welton alluded to there being a lot of "powerful" people pulling Richmond all over the place that really had him confused. The final weekend was key to him seeing that the feeling he had for 2.5yrs that TN was the place he wanted to be really sank in. Welton said they knew Richmond always wanted to be at TN.

I think a similar thing is happening with Brown. I think he knows the best fit is TN, but there are "powerful people" tiring to sway and confuse him.

Yeah I don't see Vickers leaving early. Other than O'Brien, we'll most likely keep all of our current DTs through 2017 unless Johnson blows up and is a one and done guy. Which is pretty rare for DTs.

Assuming we get Kongbo though, having a JUCO DT have the type of season that justifies them being one and done could be a good thing for us. We need to be able to start selling high school kids on being out into the NFL and if Johnson or Kongbo are one and done, then we've probably had a pretty huge 2016 season.

It's a beautiful thing when the posters are worried about 3 deep depth at DT for 2-3 years out. Repeat: DT depth 2-3 years out. Wasn't that long ago we had 250 lbs. Wes Brown starting at tackle with bad wheels because we had none.

Butch has this.

He literally had an Auburn former player/booster visit him at his HS last week. I mean how can he do that?

Because for some reason programs like Auburn (has a former NCAA compliance guy now working for them) and Bama can pretty much get away with anything.

Starting to feel like a finish of Warrior, Byrd, Kongbo with the fourth spot going to Brown if he wants to be a Vol. if Brown goes to Auburn, we will add Moss.

Would be a strong finish either way.

Two 4* Army AA top 100 players and the nations #1 juco 5* defensive end is nothing to sneeze at.

Adding a 5* DT would be a pretty big cherry on top though I gotta say.
