Yeah man I had to take an Incomplete on my freshman year biology class because I messed up the times for the final. Then, to compound things, no one told me I wasn't supposed to re enroll for the next Bio class and it turned into an F on my transcript I found later. :/ My overall gpa was 3.6 so you can imagine how I felt about an F being on there!

Depends on the prof, I guess. I am a big softie and it usually happens once or twice a semester. I let my students take it in my office.

It's weird being on the other side, and looking out at an auditorium full of students. By December, you all look like red-eyed zombies with runny noses desperately looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Keep hammering away, man. You'll catch a break somewhere.

Edit - responded to the wrong person. Coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

If not now.Very soon we will that team that nobody else wants to play. You can see it happening. We are slowly gaining our respect back.

Soooo... catch me up. I saw Elder was going to EKU. I heard rumors about CZA to Maryland and Martinez to Miami. Anything else being discussed? Any changes initiated by Butch?

We are that team now, imho. I guarantee you Bama was jumping up and down that Florida converted that 4th and 14, and didn't have to see us again in the SECC game.

No way we lose to Northwestern. That would look like a poor loss in my eyes. Won't happen, though. Northwestern will be just like Iowa last year except maybe a little better. They are run heavy. Their passing attack is not great at all. The only good win on their record is a 16-6 win against Stanford at the beginning of the year. Honestly, I think that win against Stanford was more or less a needed slap in the face for Stanford to wake up. If Standford and Northwestern played again right now the score would be much different with Standford blowing out NU.

For sure

IMO the difference is negleable regarding recruiting either way

If you are selling Nigel Warrior on joining a team that is going to compete for a championship next season it is a lot easier to do so with 9 wins, 6 in a row and finishing the season over a top 15 team. Because if we lose, the game against Northwestern, you are an 8 win team and teams recruiting against you are going to say you didn't beat a ranked team all year.

Perception and momentum in recruiting is everything.

Yep. And IMO we needed to win this bowl game no matter who our opponent was. I don't think Northwestern is a top 15 team in the nation, but they are ranked that high so might as well get that win against a top 15 ranked team.

Agree to disagree

This game doesn't define momentum IMO.

Agree. We need the win more than anything. I don't think we could pick a better bowl and opponent given our situation and record.

New Year's Day, in Florida, winnable game vs an overrated top 15 opponent.

Georgia was and still is ranked (Coaches poll).

A win over Northwestern would be nice, but a loss would just feel bad. More to lose than win so just win it.

This game doesn't define momentum IMO.

It's not tangible but every little thing plays a part in recruiting. It is like making the switch to Nike. Does it land us a particular kid? No. But it's one more thing that stacks the deck in our favor.

Winning this bowl game will be big for our program IMO. Mainly because it builds on the theme of steady improvement.

I don't usually put a lot of stock in these anonymous quotes from other coaches but here's what a coach said about UT in the preseason.

Anonymous coach on Tennessee

“They don’t need to be 7-6 again. They need to get nine to 10 wins. They’ve been floundering in mediocrity since 2007. It’s been eight years since Tennessee has been relevant in the East.”

What SEC coaches say anonymously about other coaches

I agree with this. And if the narrative for our four losses are "just one play in each game, leading in the 4th quarter, turned the corner at Georgia, etc.", I think you lose all of that with a loss to NU.

If we are going to claim we could very easily be a top 6 team in the country now, that gets lost with a bowl loss to a clearly not-top 10 team.

Bowl game is a must win...in the sense of recruiting, not so much the coaches.

You want to enter the season on a high note, i.e. the current winning streak we're riding high on. We win, we're a top 15 preseason team and being discussed as a very real contender for the SECE, SECC, NY6 team, and possible dark horse playoff team.

That brings recruits, not losing to a team with the one hundred and umpteenth ranked defense.

Bowl game is a must win...

I just don't understand why we do this to ourselves.

2016 is where this entire program is pointing.

If you look at the top 6 teams of this season:

Only 2 of the 6 did the bowl game set the tone for their next season in a positive way.

Clemson embarrassed OU

Bama lost in what many thought was a game that tested their manhood

Mich state won an exciting game.

Iowa was destroyed embarrassingly

OHS sat around all year basking in their glory and played most of the season at a much lesser level than last year

So at best 2 of the 6 used their bowl game to propel their seasons.

OU, Bama, and iowa used their losses for motivation.

In no shape form or fashion is this game a must win. That's plain comical

You know that feeling you get when you completely inexcusable **** something up but don't know about it until it's too late? Well just got a big dose of that feeling.

Was doing a late night cram session for my last two finals tomorrow morning. I decided to look at the syllabus's time for the exams just to make sure the time I recorded wasn't off by a bit-- basically being slightly anal about stuff-- only to see that both exams were actually this morning... I don't even know what to do with myself right now. I emailed both professors but I might have just royally ****ed myself.

I'm in my early 30s and I have this nightmare several times a year right around this time. There's no sugar coating this. This sucks. Hope they have grace.

I agree that it isn't really a must win for the team. It would be a bad offseason for the fans if we lost though and the "fahr Butch" threads would get going again. Must win or not, we are going to win easily so it doesn't matter.
